In order to cultivate the students' self-learning ability and interest in learning English and make English teaching in higher vocational colleges meet the need of society,this paper does a need analysis in English teaching by means of questionnaire and interview,which shows that it is the essential solution to innovate English teaching methods,improve the teaching effect,be student-centered and meet students' need in learning English.

The design and implementation of project-oriented teaching approach is based on the analysis on typical tasks and vocational abilities. By incorporating the real projects of the enterprises to the teaching process, it can help the students study new knowledge in a proactive way and develop their vocational abilities during the completion of tasks. With the aim of enhancing the students' listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities in business occasions and improve their vocational skills, the project-oriented approach has been increasingly used in BEC classroom teaching. This article takes the sixth and the seventh part of the BEC teaching material "Working in English" as an example to show the design and implementation of project-oriented teaching approach, with a hope to provide reference for the teaching of other courses for business English majors at polytechnic colleges.
