Applying the change detection paradigm, with individual moving objects as the stimuli, the present research explored the storage mechanism of moving objects in visual working memory, viz.stored individually or influenced by the multi-object configuration. Two experiments were conducted to investigate the impact on the change detection of non-target direction change(exp 1) and w/o the existence of non-targets(exp 2).The results indicated that the change detection rate was significantly lower in the maximal change condition versus the minimal change condition;however, there was no significant difference in the change detection rate between single probe and minimal change. The results were consistent with previous studies which were conducted under static scenes. The research supported the hypothesis that multiple directions of moving objects are stored independently in VWM.
Phrasal input is a Chinese text entry feature and just available on mobile phone lately. In the study, we compared usability of five Chinese pinyin phrasal input methods (Cstar, Guobi, Nokia, T9 and Zi) on mobile phones that represent two types: methods derived from PC pinyin phrasal input and methods derived from pinyin character input on mobile phones. The result showed that Cstar and Nokia performed the best followed by Guobi, T9, and Zi in order. We discussed the reasons behind and provided four design guidelines: 1) Find a balance between radical designs and well-accepted designs; 2) Optimize the corpus constantly; 3) Provide easy-to-use on-line phrase creation; and 4) Design a phrasal input method excluding pinyin selection process as PC pinyin phrasal input methods do.
To memorize both feature and spatiotemporal information of moving objects is a critical human activity.Much research has been done to explore the storage of visual information from a static scene in working memory and to investigate how visual information is dynamically updated in a multiple object tracking task;however, the storage of motion information of multiple objects in working memory has been rarely discussed.By combining multi-object tracking and change detection paradigms, with individual moving objects as stimuli, the present research investigated the capacity of visual working memory for moving objects and the results indicated that about 3 objects can be retained in visual working memory.
Retracing the traditional viewpoint that the P-pathway processed color and the M-pathway processed motion independently,we introduced the research of chromatic motion perception. With the basic knowledge of DKL color space and isoluminance adjustment in chromatic motion research,we reviewed the characteristics of chromatic motion perception and hypotheses on the chromatic motion based on different processing levels of receptors, pathways and cortex, and then looked forward to research trends in this field.
The influence of illuminant, surface, and background on color constancy was investigated using computer simulation technology. The results showed that the characteristics of illuminant, surface, and background independently influenced the degree of color constancy. The degree of color constancy varied with illuminant change and reached the maximum under the neutral illuminant. Furthermore, the degree of color constancy fluctuated with surface variation in the surface matching test, which showed that color constancy was also dependent on the characteristics of the surface. The degree of color constancy in the same background was higher than that in a different background. Based on the results of the present study, a nonlinear color constancy model was established to approximate the test data. The model proved to be able to reflect the mechanism of human color constancy to a certain degree.
