In this study, the distribution of endemic leaf beetles in T & uuml;rkiye was analyzed holistically at the provincial scale using species richness (ENR), corrected weighted endemism (CWE), and range-restricted endemism (RRE) indices. A total of 95 endemic taxa were found in T & uuml;rkiye and these taxa exhibited significant spatial heterogeneity in terms of richness and extent of distribution. The Western and Central Taurus Mountains and the Eastern Black Sea Region were found to be the main centers of endemism, with high densities of narrowly distributed and geographically restricted species. These patterns clearly demonstrate that key biogeographic factors, such as steep elevation gradients, strong orographic barriers, habitat fragmentation, and host plant restrictions, favor long-term isolation and local speciation. In contrast, the more uniform topography of Western Anatolia and the Marmara Region generally exhibits low endemism values. The strong spatial overlap between leaf beetles and plant endemism suggests that host specialization plays a significant role in shaping distribution boundaries. Overall, the findings highlight that T & uuml;rkiye's mountainous areas contain critical refuge areas harboring unique endemic leaf beetle communities and that these regions should be prioritized in biodiversity conservation strategies.
Ground beetle (Carabidae) species diversity and spatial distribution were surveyed across five habitat types along an elevational gradient on Davraz Mountain, a biogeographical transition area in southwestern T & uuml;rkiye. The analyses showed that habitat heterogeneity-particularly soil moisture and texture-exerts a stronger influence on carabid diversity than elevation. S & oslash;rensen's and Jaccard similarity indices showed strong faunal overlap between some sampling areas, while multivariate principal components and indicated varying levels of species richness and evenness across sampling areas. The data highlight the importance of fine-scaled habitat features in driving ground beetle biodiversity and the value of local-scale ecological studies in conservation planning.
Colaspinella grandis (Frivaldszky, 1880) is a rarely-collected species known only from T & uuml;rkiye and Bulgaria. Eight specimens of this species were recently collected during faunistic studies carried out in various locations in T & uuml;rkiye. Based on the specimens obtained, the taxonomic characteristics of the species were redescribed in detail, their genital structures were photographed and their distributions in T & uuml;rkiye were analyzed.
Cryptocephalus surdus Rapilly, 1980 is a little-known species which was described based on specimens collected from Iran. Due to the fact that the species was described very briefly in its original description, the taxonomic features of the species are redescribed in here. In addition, information about additional taxonomic characters, habitats and distribution in Türkiye of this little-known species are given for the first time in this study. Habitus and genital features of the species are photographed. Habitat preference and a map showing the previous and new distribution localities of the species are provided.
The first data on faunistic composition of leaf beetles of 26 Agustos Nature Park, Afyonkarahisar, Turkey are presented. The field researches were conducted from April to November 2017. During this study, a total of 46 leaf beetles species belonging to 23 genera in 6 subfamilies were identified, all of which are recorded for the first time in the study area. Galerucinae was identified as the richest subfamily with 27 species. About 42.15% of the leaf beetle abundance was represented by three species of Alticini: Chaetocnema concinna (17.92%), Altica carduorum (13.01%) and Chaetocnema mannerheimi (11.22%). Eleven species were represented with only one or two specimens in the study area, and they were considered as rare taxa: Labidostomis cyanicornis, Clyptocephalus moraei, Leptinotarsa decemlineata, Aphthona pygmaea, Neocrepidodera ferruginea, Phyllotreta procera, Ph. vittula, Psylliodes circumdata, Ps. napi, Galeruca interrupta and Cassida seraphina (0.09%). In addition, short notes about host plant, phenology and abundance of each species are presented.
The Turkish Donaciinae are reviewed based on recently collected material, several museum collections, and the available literature data. In total, 21 species of Donaciinae are known from Turkey. Donacia aequidorsis Jacobson, 1894, D. crassipes Fabricius, 1775, D. polita Kunze, 1818, and Plateumaris rustica (Kunze, 1818) are reported for the first time for the Turkish reed beetle fauna. Local distributions are updated, and distribution maps are provided for 19 species of which exact localities are known.
The first detailed data on species composition of leaf beetles of Hatila Valley National Park, Artvin, Turkey are presented. During the field surveys conducted in 2015, in total 49 species of Chrysomelidae from 26 genera belonging to 7 subfamilies were registered. Among them, 30 species are recorded for the first time from Artvin Province. The subfamily Galerucinae is the most diverse and includes 23 species in the park (18 – Alticini, 4 – Galerucini and 1 – Luperini), however two subfamilies, Criocerinae and Eumolpinae, are represented by only one species each. The genus Cryptocephalus Geoffrey, 1762 is the most diverse (7 species), followed by Cassida Linnaeus, 1758 (6), Chrysolina Motschulsky, 1860 (5), Altica Geoffrey, 1762 (4), Longitarsus Latreille, 1829 (4), Phyllotreta Chevrolet, 1836 (2) and Batophila Foudras, 1860 (2). The remaining genera are represented by only one species. The brief information on activity periods, host plant preferences and distribution of each species collected from the area is given and discussed in detail. The results based on our material showed that Hatila Valley National Park has a low species composition in terms of leaf beetles and the faunal structure of leaf beetles was not as high as expected
The faunal composition, altitudinal distribution, habitat preferences, seasonal changes in abundance and chorology of darkling beetles of Mount Davraz were studied in 2014. A total of 15 species that belong to 13 genera in three subfamiles were found in the research area. Dailognatha quadricollis, Pimelia subglobosa polita and Blaps tibialis were the most common species. The highest number of species (12) was collected during June at the elevations of 1800-2100 m. It was determined that individual number of the beetles reach the highest level in the summer season and the lowest in the autumn. Also, the most diverse habitat type was the steppe environment. In terms of the zoogeographical composition, the two species (Raiboscelis coelestinus and Blaps jeannei) are endemic to the fauna of Turkey. Except for these species, it was found that the remaining species are commonly distributed in East Mediterranean part of West Palaearctic region.
Leistus terminatus (Panzer, 1793) is recorded for the first time from Turkey. A single specimen was collected from Kovada Lake National Park (Isparta, Turkey). The new record extends the known distribution of this species through Southeastern Europe including Turkey. Information about its distribution, habitat and some morphological properties are given.
Leaf beetles were studied in the Kovada Lake National Park (KL) and Kızıldağ National Park (KD) in Isparta province (Turkey) during April–October in 2009 and 2010. A total of 131 leaf beetle species were collected. In total, 88 species were detected from KL and 95 species from KD. Adult activity periods of the collected leaf beetle species were determined and their frequency and dominancy values were provided. The results showed slight differences in terms of the seasonal activity of the species in the two national parks. According to Shannon-Wiener index, the highest leaf beetle diversity among the studied months was found in early June (H’: 4.23) and late May (H’: 4.17). Sørensen similarity index of the species according to different seasonal periods showed three distinct seasonal periods: a) early April, b) late April to early July, c) late July to late October. Almost all leaf beetles showed a seasonal distribution, with the highest dominance during spring and early summer. The main reason for these different seasonal activities is that leaf beetle species are related to the quality and availability of host-plants.
According to the literature, Chrysochus asclepiadeus (Pallas, 1773) is represented by two subspecies in the western Palaearctic, including C. asclepiadeus asiaeminoris De Monte, 1948, which was described from south-western Turkey but has not been recorded since 1948. Recently collected specimens from the provinces of Izmir and Isparta (not far from the type locality of C. asclepiadeus asiaeminoris) were compared with specimens of the nominate subspecies from Kiev (Ukraine). It is concluded that C. asclepiadeus asiaeminoris is a synonym of the nominate subspecies (syn. n.). The distribution of the species in Turkey is discussed.
Leaf beetle species composition, diversity and community structure were investigated and compared among three different habitat types (herbaceous open area, forest area without shrubs, forest area with shrubs) included in K ovada L ake ( KL ) and K ızıldağ ( KD ) national parks in Isparta province, at the M editerranean region of T urkey. In total, 132 leaf beetle species (88 from KL and 96 from KD ) belonging to ten subfamilies were collected. Spatial distribution of the leaf beetles and estimated species number were compared between study sites and some environmental factors affecting the determined species were analyzed. The highest leaf beetle diversity among the habitat types was in the forest areas with abundant shrubby understory at the KL with diversity values of 2.67 ( S hannon– W iener index) and 0.87 ( S impson index). The most similar habitats in terms of the leaf beetle communities were herbaceous open areas at both national parks with similarity values 50% ( S ørensen index) and 34% ( J accard index). Nonparametric estimators ICE , C hao2, J ackknife1 and J ackknife2 show that the percentages of the detected leaf beetle species during field surveys in the KL were between 85% and 93%, and in the KD were between 67% and 78%. Canonical correspondence analysis indicates that the most effective environmental variables on the leaf beetle species diversity were covers of the herbaceous and tree layers. Also, these results show that the most important environmental variable affecting the leaf beetle species diversity was floristic structure of the sites.
The leaf beetle fauna of Turkey is reviewed and a complete checklist with provincial distributions is presented for the first time. Seven hundred and seventy-six species are catalogued in total. This represents approximately 22% of the known Palaearctic leaf beetle fauna. The Turkish leaf beetle fauna is characterized by 81 endemic species. Distributions of the species in Turkey are given based on available literature records. Some new materials from new localities are also examined. Taxa in the list are arranged systematically under family, subfamily, genus, subgenus (when recognized) and species. The subspecies are not included in the list but mentioned in the notes given for certain species. The species whose occurrences in Turkey need conformation are not included in the list but are given separately. Additionally, two new synonymies are stated: Psylliodes diversicolor Nadein 2006 = P. kasnakensis Gök et Aslan, 2007 syn.nov.; Phyllotreta maculicornis Pic, 1906 = Ph. ispartaensis Gök, 2005 syn.nov.

Calomicrus velai Bezdek sp. nov. from Iran is described, illustrated and compared with related species. Calomicrus koenigi (Jacobson, 1897) is redescribed based on primary type material and recently collected specimens. Luperus kasikoporanus (Pic, 1912) is confirmed as synonym of Calomicrus koenigi. Lectotypes are designated for Luperus koenigi Jacobson, 1897 and L. kasikoporanus Pic, 1912.
Cassida ferruginea Goeze, 1777 is recorded for the first time from Turkey. A single specimen of the species was collected from Sakarya Province (north-western Turkey). This new record extends the known distribution area of the species through Southeastern Europe including Turkey. In the present study, the main morphological characters of the species are presented and its habitus is illustrated.

Macroplea Samouelle, 1819 is a small genus of fully aquatic leaf beetles distributed in the Palearctic. Up to now, none is recorded from Turkey, and in this paper, we report Macroplea mutica (Fabricius, 1792), from Turkey for the first time. We present important morphological characters of larvae, pupae and adults collected from Eastern Anatolia. We also noted the biology, habitat features, host plant associations and the current distribution of the species. The relatively large but fragmented distribution of M. mutica is discussed on the bases of restricted underwater locomotion and reduced ability of flight of the species. The species is reported here for the second time based on samples collected from Central and Southwestern Anatolia and also redescribed on the basis of 20 specimens (16 males, 4 females) collected from Kizildag National Park, Isparta Province (Turkey). Photographs of the habitus and genital structures are presented. Habitat preference and a map of the current known distribution localities of the species are also provided for the first time.
Current knowledge on distribution, habitat and host plant associations of aquatic leaf beetles (Donaciinae) of Turkey is rather limited. In the present study, members of the aquatic leaf beetle genus Donacia Fabricius, 1775 distributed in Southwestern Turkey are investigated. A total of five species are found: D. vulgaris Zschach, 1775, D. simplex Fabricius, 1775, D. impressa Paykull, 1799, D. marginata Hoppe, 1795 and D. bicolora Zschach, 1788. Although these species were previously recorded from the middle and northern parts of Turkey, all of them are recorded from southwestern part of the country for the first time. Habitus and genital structures of the species are photographed. Actual and possible local distributions of the species are discussed and mapped.
