This study develops and tests a theoretically integrated model of sustainable mobile banking adoption by positioning trust as the central mechanism linking user evaluations to behavioural intention. Drawing on an extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2), the study organises key determinants into three complementary dimensions: functional evaluations (effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, and self-service technology attributes), affective experience (hedonic motivation), and value-based and risk considerations (sustainability and perceived privacy risk). These dimensions are theoretically integrated through trust, a cognitive–affective construct that addresses performance uncertainty, emotional engagement, and value alignment in digital financial contexts. A quantitative survey of 430 retail banking customers in Zimbabwe was analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The results indicate that functional, affective, and value-based perceptions do not independently drive adoption intention; instead, their effects converge through trust, which serves as a central mediating mechanism. Specifically, trust transmits the influence of these antecedents to behavioural intention, establishing a clear hierarchical pathway from perceptions to outcomes. Notably, hedonic motivation and sustainability, often viewed as competing motivational logics, operate coherently as affective and normative antecedents of trust. The study concludes that trust is the primary pathway through which diverse user perceptions translate into adoption behaviour. It contributes by advancing a trust-centric integration of technology adoption, sustainability, and risk perspectives, reconciling competing motivational logics within a unified framework, and providing empirical evidence from an under-researched African context. Importantly, the Zimbabwean context, characterised by economic volatility, infrastructural constraints and heightened uncertainty in financial systems amplifies the role of trust as a critical mechanism, thereby extending existing technology adoption models that are typically developed in more stable environments. These findings highlight the importance of aligning functional performance, user experience, and sustainability values to strengthen trust and promote the adoption of sustainable digital banking.

The modelling of antecedents of online impulse buying is carried out in cross-cultural context. Structural equation modelling (SEM) using AMOS is used to validate the hypothesised relationship between urge to buy impulsively (UBI), its antecedents, and online impulse buying. A sample of 650 of Indian and Bahraini (India - 405, Bahrain - 245) customers are collected through online survey using structured questionnaire. The construct UBI is measured with its antecedent online sales promotion, personal factor, and website quality. Culture is used as a moderating variable and found significant in moderating the relationships in both cultures. This model can be useful for the e-commerce firms offering their products online. Online impulse buying has not been much investigated in cross-cultural context which makes this study unique and novel. This study will fill the knowledge gap in cross-cultural online impulse buying literature.

SUMMARY:Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) pose a significant global health and economic burden, necessitating universal health coverage (UHC). Out-of-pocket (OOPs) payments for healthcare, particularly in low- and middle-income countries lacking social protection and health insurance, contribute to impoverishment and catastrophic expenditure. This scoping review aimed to assess the state of UHC for NCDs in India, including the progress made, coverage of government health insurance schemes, challenges faced, and their potential solutions. A literature search was performed in major databases such as PubMed, Ovid, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar using appropriate keywords. Findings indicated that UHC remains a distant dream in India with a disproportionately high NCD burden and a substantial portion of health-care expenses (80% outpatient, 40% inpatient) relying on OOP expenditures, causing financial hardship. Limited universal social security exacerbates health-care access challenges. The coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic has further hindered NCD services and UHC progress. The Ayushman Bharat program, featuring health and wellness centers and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, aims to address primary health-care needs and provide NCD coverage in India. Despite this, challenges persist, including inadequate availability of essential medicines and technologies in health-care facilities, as well as gaps in rural health-care access. Telemedicine services like "eSanjeevani" have been implemented to improve access in remote areas. To achieve UHC for NCDs in India, it is crucial to strengthen primary health-care, ensure medicine availability, enhance human resources, establish a referral system, address social determinants, and implement social protection.
Background In a rabies-endemic country like India, every animal bite is potentially taken as rabid exposure and timely and appropriate postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) is crucial as rabies is an almost 100% fatal disease. Methods A retrospective record-based study was conducted at an anti-rabies clinic (ARC) in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, India. Data of the animal bite victims attending the ARC for PEP from January to December 2022 were extracted from the records. A semistructured questionnaire was used for collecting information regarding the interval between exposure and the initiation of anti-rabies PEP, age, gender, residence, the bite site on the body, category of exposure and other risk factors associated with the delay in PEP. Results Most of the victims were male (67.6%), from an urban background (61.3%) and aged up to 20 y (43.9%). Out of the 222 victims, 62 (27.9%) had delayed initiation of PEP (>48 h after exposure). Factors found to be significantly associated with delayed initiation of PEP were residence (p=0.01), age (p=0.04) and the type of biting animal (p=0.002). Conclusions Delayed initiation of PEP is common among animal bite victims in this region of India, although PEP is affordable. Educational programmes and awareness-raising campaigns for timely administration of PEP should be a priority, especially targeting rural residents, those aged<18 y and those bitten by animals other than dogs.
Objective-Most women stop using hormonal contraceptives due to changes in their mood. The evidence regarding the association of hormonal contraception with depression shows mixed results. Therefore, we aim to establish the association between the use of hormonal contraception and depressive symptoms. Method- This cross-sectional study was conducted on 326 women of reproductive age using hormonal contraceptives for a week to one year referred to as "hormonal contraceptive (HC) users" (n=165), and those using non-hormonal methods and not using contraceptives referred to as "HC non-users" (n=161). Beck's depression inventory (BDI-II) was used to measure depression. Result-There was no discernible difference in mean Beck's depression inventory score and degree of depression between the two groups. However, individual symptoms of depression such as sadness(p=0.01), reduced libido(p=0.0002) feelings of pessimism (p=0.02), and failure (p=0.003) were found to be significantly high in the HC user group. Conclusion- We conclude that there was no significant difference in mean depression scores between groups. However, few individual symptoms of depression were high in HC users suggesting depression as a potential side effect of hormonal contraceptive use.
Background: Vitamin B-12 and folate are essential micronutrients, a deficiency of which causes anaemia, poor growth and an increased risk of infections, along with irreversible neurological damage to the developing brain in children. Methods: A hospital-based prospective observational study was conducted in 100 children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) aged 6-59 months admitted to a tertiary-care facility in northern India from July 2021 to June 2022. A structured proforma was used to record socio-demographic information, a detailed clinical history, results of general and systemic physical examination and a detailed anthropometric assessment. Serum folate and vitamin B-12 were estimated by electrochemiluminescence. Results: The mean age of the children was 24.18 months, and 64.0% were aged 6-12 months. The male-to-female ratio was 1.08:1. Anaemia was present in 87.0% of the children, and it was severe in 35% of them. There was serum vitamin B-12 and folate deficiency in 61.0% and 19.0%, respectively. A deficiency of vitamin B-12 was significantly associated with delayed developmental milestones in all domains, a mid-upper-arm circumference of <11.5 cm, severe anaemia, a low platelet count and folate deficiency, and a folate deficiency was significantly associated with older age, delayed developmental milestones in all domains, severe anaemia, a low platelet count and vitamin B-12 deficiency. Conclusion: Vitamin B-12 deficiency is highly prevalent in children aged 6-59 months with SAM, but the prevalence of folate deficiency is much lower. Apart from iron and folic acid supplementation, government programmes should consider vitamin B-12 supplementation for children aged 6-59 months.

Background The COVID-19 vaccines were rolled out as an emergency measure, with an expedited approval to contain the pandemic. The objective of this study was to assess the incidence, pattern and severity of AEFIs reported following COVID-19 vaccination and their predictors among the healthcare workers. Materials and methods A prospective cohort study enrolling healthcare workers of a tertiary care Institute in North India receiving COVISHIELD™ from February to May 2021 was carried out to assess the incidence, pattern and severity of AEFI over the next 30 days. Both active and passive surveillance methods were used for AEFI recording. Bivariate analysis was performed to ascertain the predictors of AEFIs. Results A total of 836 healthcare workers who received the first dose of COVISHIELD™ were included in the study of which 201 (24.0 %) experienced one or more AEFIs. Majority of AEFIs were of minor grade (99.8 %) and resolved spontaneously. Majority (96.0 %) had onset of the AEFIs within 48 hrs of vaccination. Serious AEFIs, leading to hospitalization was noticed in 2(0.2 %) participants, both females, with suspicion of immunization stress related response (ISRR). Both of them recovered without any sequelae. No deaths were recorded. Factors found to be significantly associated with the occurrence of AEFIs in the participants were female gender (p = 0.02), monthly income > 20,000 INR (p = 0.007), presence of any chronic illness (p < 0.0001), history of allergic reaction to any drug/vaccine (p = 0.01), history of COVID-19 infection (p < 0.00002) and history of hospitalization due to COVID-19 (p < 0.0002). Conclusion Majority of the AEFIs observed were of minor grade with spontaneous resolution of the symptoms indicating safety and well tolerability of the vaccine. Female gender, higher income, history of allergy and co-morbidities, history of COVID-19 infection and history of hospitalization were found to be major predictors for the development of adverse events and require more watchful vaccination.
Duodenal perforation often presents as an acute onset of abdominal pain and potential complications such as systemic infection, multiple organ system failure, and even death. It can result from various causes, including peptic ulcer disease (PUD), trauma, malignancies, and infections. Prompt diagnosis and timely intervention are critical for better outcomes, though mortality can be high, particularly in delayed cases. This systematic review aims to synthesize available literature on the etiologies and outcomes associated with duodenal perforation presenting as acute peritonitis, offering a comprehensive overview for guiding effective management strategies. A systematic search was conducted across electronic databases including PubMed, CINAHL, and Google Scholar to identify relevant studies published up to August 2024. Inclusion criteria comprised observational studies, case reports, and case series on duodenal perforation in acute peritonitis. Review articles and non-English language studies were excluded. Two reviewers independently performed data extraction with the opinion of a third reviewer to resolve controversies. Information was gathered on study characteristics, patient demographics, etiology, treatment, and outcomes. A total of 18 studies with 536 participants were included, encompassing a diverse patient population. The primary etiologies identified were PUD, trauma, foreign body, and iatrogenic causes. Treatment approaches ranged from conservative management to surgical interventions, with outcomes varying based on the underlying cause and timeliness of treatment. Postoperative complications were significant, including wound infections, anastomotic leaks, and, in severe cases, multiorgan failure. Mortality was largely associated with delayed intervention. Despite advancements in surgical techniques, the condition still carries a significant risk of complications and mortality, underscoring the need for timely and effective medical care. Future research should focus on developing standardized guidelines to optimize the management of duodenal perforations and reduce associated morbidity and mortality.
Technology has significantly changed medical practice, including diagnosis, treatment, and availability. Telemedicine use in the specialty of ophthalmology seems to be a promising field. In underserved populations, limited coverage of ophthalmic healthcare facilities results in a higher burden of eye-related diseases and visual impairment. The main obstacle preventing these individuals from receiving eye care consultations is difficulty in access and transportation. There is an urgent need for eye care facilities for these people, and teleophthalmology has the potential to provide eye care facilities to these underserved people. Teleophthalmology was reported as cost-effective, time-saving, reliable, and efficient for underserved populations. However, teleophthalmology has certain limitations in its implementation in the form of a high initial cost of equipment, problems with consistent electricity and internet supply, and the reluctance of people in certain regions toward acceptance of teleophthalmology. This systematic review assessed the benefits and challenges of implementing teleophthalmology in low-resource settings.
Objectives:Common mental disorders (CMDs), including depression, anxiety, and somatoform disorders, affect all stages of life and impact individuals, families, and communities. This study aimed to determine the magnitude of CMDs and their sociodemographic determinants in the adult population of a rural block in North India.Material and Methods:A cross-sectional, quantitative, community-based study was conducted among adult residents of a rural block in Haryana, North India, using a multistage random sampling technique. The Hindi version of the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12), a well-validated tool, was used to screen participants for CMDs. Scores of 4 or above denoted the presence of CMDs. Bivariate analyses were performed to determine the associations between CMDs and sociodemographic characteristics. Results:Of the 180 residents selected for the study, most were women (60.0%) and aged between 31 and 50 years (52.3%). The prevalence of CMDs symptoms in the study population was 20.0%. The presence of CMDs symptoms was significantly higher among those who were aged 60 years or older [OR=12.33, 95% CI 3.21-47.38], widowed, divorced or separated [OR=7.50, 95% CI 1.09-51.52], illiterate [OR= 6.25, 95% CI 2.84-13.77], had monthly family income below 10,000 INR [OR=3.33, 95% CI 1.54-7.20], had any chronic physical illness [OR=8.28, 95% CI 3.70-18.56] and had a family history of any psychiatric illness [OR=5.56, 95% CI 1.52-19.42].Conclusion:The burden of CMDs was quite high among adults in rural North India. The presence of CMDs was closely associated with sociodemographic characteristics. Primary care and community-based settings need to screen for, diagnose, and manage CMDs to address this growing problem.
This study aims to understand the factors that influence millennial Muslims in South Tangerang's intention to donate cash, by applying the Extended Theory of Planned Behaviour (ETPB) approach. This research involves analysis using the SmartPLS tool to evaluate the role of attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and moral obligation on cash waqf intention. The results show that positive attitudes towards waqf, social environmental influences, self-control, as well as moral responsibility play an important role in shaping cash waqf intentions among millennial Muslims. Attitude towards waqf is influenced by an understanding of the importance of waqf in Islam and the resulting social benefits. Subjective norms are shaped by family support and social environment, while perceived behavioral control is closely related to an individual's belief in his or her ability to endow. In addition, moral obligation shows a significant influence in driving cash waqf intention. This study provides important insights for stakeholders in promoting cash waqf as an integral part of economic and social empowerment in Muslim societies.
Leprosy Elimination in India has been a public health priority for decades and on December 31, 2005, India achieved the World Health Organization’s (WHO) goal of eliminating leprosy as a public health problem at the national level, with the prevalence rate falling below one case per 10,000 population. Despite this, India still accounts for the highest number of new leprosy cases globally, contributing more than 50 percent of the leprosy burden of the world. The country has made considerable progress in reducing the burden of leprosy over the years but challenges remain in maintaining the elimination status and preventing disabilities due to leprosy. The present review discusses the current status of leprosy in India, identifies challenges/lacunae in the implementation of the leprosy eradication program, and suggests potential steps that could be undertaken for sustained elimination of leprosy and future possible eradication of the disease from the country.
