Chagas disease caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi is an endemic parasitic disease in Central and South America. The chemotherapic agents against Trypnosoma cruzi (imidazol compounds, lampit and benznidazol) are not very convenient products. Since it is known that protozoan Trypanosoma are close to Leishmania we studied the action of 14 bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloids, in vitro, on three strains of T. cruzi (Tulahuen, C8C11, and 1979 CL1). As in the case of Leishmania, gyrocarpine, daphnandrine and obaberine showed an interesting activity and we judge them to be worthy of in vivo assays.

The alkaloids pseudoxandrine, pseudoxandrinine, oxandrine, and oxandrinine have been isolated from a Colombian Annonaceous, Pseudoxandra aff. lucida. These bases belong to the small group of bisbenzyisoquinolines with a C(11)—C(11′) biphenyl bond, and are the first α or α′ mono-keto-bisbenzyltetrahydroisoquinolines. These structures were elucidated by ms, 1H nmr (including double resonance and nOe experiments), and 13C nmr.
Pentouregine, isolated from the leaves of Guatteria ouregou, is the first aporphine alkaloid with a 1, 11-methyleneoxy bridge found in an Annonaceae. Its structure has been elucidated by means of spectral analysis.

Two new alkaloids, which we have named annomontine (1) and methoxyannomontine (2), have been isolated from the trunk- and root-barks of Annona montana Macf. (Annonaceae). Their structures have been deduced by spectral analysis and confirmed by an X-ray structure determination of (2). They are the first members of the new class of 1-(2′-aminopyrimidin-4-yl)-β-carboline alkaloids.
Le contenu alcaloïdique des écorces de tronc et des feuilles de l'Enantia polycarpa, Annonacées, a été étudié et comparé à celui d'autres Enantia. Les principaux alcaloïdes sont des protoberbérines, des tétrabydroprotoberbérines et des aporpbinoïdes (aporphines quaternaires, aporphines, nor-aporphines, oxo-aporpbines). Une isoquinolone, la corydaldine, a été isolée, ainsi qu'un alcaloïde nouveau, la polycarpine.
