Using the Belouso v-Zhabotinsk y (BZ) chemical system we e xplore the resonant re- sponse of spatially-e xtended oscillatory and e xcitable media to periodic perturbation. Resonance in e xcitable media is particularly rele v ant to biological systems, where e xcitable dynamics (threshold response to stimulus and refractoriness) are common. Methods to quantify spatio-temporal patterns will be discussed and the resonant patterns in e xcitable and oscillatory media will be compared. Ex- perimental observ ations are compared to the results from numerical simulations of the Brusselator and FitzHugh-Nagumo models and from a forced comple x Ginzb ur g-Landau amplitude equation.
