Conclusion:Covid-19 vaccine literacy was found to be moderate in the group examined, and it affected the level of vaccine hesitancy and the predictors of them. It is crucial that the health professionals especially nurses and social media resources preferred by the society as a source of information convey accurate and up-to-date information to individuals. Nurses should be a facilitator for community getting right and currrent knowledge of vaccines via social media, face to face contact, scientific programmes.
BACKGROUND:Caring for individuals with dementia presents significant challenges for caregivers. However, positive experiences such as personal growth and emotional satisfaction play a vital role in fostering resilience and improving caregiving outcomes. This study highlights the need for a culturally relevant tool to assess these positive feelings, focusing on the adaptation and validation of the Dementia Caregiver Positive Feeling Scale for Turkish caregivers. OBJECTIVES:This study aimed to carry out the Turkish validity and reliability study of the 21-item Dementia Caregiver Positive Feeling Scale. METHODS:This methodological study was conducted between February and December 2023 with 200 caregivers of dementia patients receiving treatment at the education and research hospital in Samsun, Türkiye. Data were collected using an individual information form and the 21-item Dementia Caregiver Positive Feeling Scale. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 and Amos 22.0 software. Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient was calculated, and exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted to test the construct validity of the scale. RESULTS:The average age of caregivers was 45.18 ± 12.02 (min = 18, max = 78), and 78.0% were female. The average caregiving duration was 4.07 ± 3.00 (1-18) years. The total Cronbach's alpha value of the scale is 0.80. Exploratory factor analysis revealed a KMO coefficient of 0.756 and a Bartlett's test result of χ2 = 960.382, p < 0.001. Factor loadings ranged from 0.32 to 0.61 and the total variance explained was 47.232. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the scale's 20-item, four-factor structure, with fit indices indicating an acceptable model fit: RMSEA 0.07, GFI 0.85, AGFI 0.80, CFI 0.77 and χ2/sd 2.15 (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS:The Dementia Caregiver Positive Feeling Scale has been determined to be a valid and reliable instrument for the Turkish community. It serves as a valuable tool that can be used in research evaluating the positive experiences of caregivers of dementia patients.
Child maltreatment is a global problem with serious life-long consequences. Preventing child maltreatment before it starts is possible and requires a multisectoral approach. This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting the ability to determine symptoms and risks of child abuse and neglect in midwifery and nursing students. The population of this descriptive study consisted of a total of 882 midwifery and nursing students studying in the Faculty of Health Sciences of a university in the Black Sea Region of Turkey. The sample included a total of 719 midwifery and nursing students who agreed to participate in the study. Of the students, 60.5% (n = 435) were nursing students, and 39.5% (n = 284) were midwifery students. The study was conducted between April and May 2017. The data were collected with the Personal Information Form and the Scale for Determining Symptoms and Risks of Child Abuse and Neglect (SDSRCAN) and were analysed using the SPSS 21 software program. The analysis involved descriptive statistics, t test, ANOVA and post hoc Tukey HSD test. The mean score of the students on the SDSRCAN was 3.64 +/- 0.40, with subscale mean scores ranging from 3.23 +/- 0.62 to 3.92 +/- 0.62. Female students, midwifery students, those who were older and those with more years of university education had statistically significantly higher mean scores on the SDSRCAN and its subscales. This study identified a deficiency in the ability to determine, as the mean SDSRCAN score among nursing and midwifery students fell below the desired threshold of 5.0. It is recommended that more training be provided to enhance the ability to determine symptoms and risks of child abuse and neglect among nursing and midwifery students.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nursing interventions applied to elderly individuals to improve rational use of medicines (RUM) and awareness through home visits. It was carried out in a prospective, randomized controlled experimental design with the pretest–post-test control group. The study was completed with 74 elderly individuals aged ≥65 years living in a rural area. The intervention group received education, counselling, brochures and pill boxes through home visits to increase RUM and awareness. The study data were collected between September and December 2022 using the face-to-face interview method, the elderly identification form, the Rational Use of Medicines Scale and the Rational Drug Use Awareness Scale. After nursing interventions were applied at home, it was determined that, the mean scores of RUM and Awareness of RUM of the intervention group increased compared to the control group and that, interventions to improve RUM and awareness were effective. In line with these results, training sessions on RUM should be organized periodically for elderly individuals and home visits should be planned by nurses at regular intervals to ensure the sustainability of RUM in the home environment.
OBJECTIVE:The purpose of this research was to examine community perception of monkeypox in terms of epidemic anxiety and stress levels. METHODS:This research was performed as a descriptive, cross-sectional study. The research was conducted with 1001 individuals between September and December 2022. AMOS 24, JAMOVI, and SPSS version 25 software were employed. The data were collected using a descriptive form, the Epidemic Anxiety Scale, and the Perceived Stress Scale. RESULTS:The mean Epidemic Anxiety Scale score was 52.47 ± 14.52, and the mean Perceived Stress Scale score was 41.88 ± 6.83. Significant positive correlation was determined between the Epidemic Anxiety Scale and the Perceived Stress Scale (r = 0.350, p = .000). A one-unit increase in perceived stress caused a 0.360 increase in epidemic anxiety (ß = 0.360). In addition, having heard of and fearing monkeypox, thinking about its ability to cause an epidemic, and perceived stress emerged as significant predictors of epidemic anxiety. CONCLUSION:The community was found to exhibit a moderate level of epidemic anxiety and a low level of perceived stress. Epidemic anxiety levels increased in line with perceived stress levels. We recommend that individuals in need receive support by determining epidemic anxiety and perceived stress levels in the community.
This international cross-sectional survey examined the potential role of organizational psychological support in mitigating the association between experiencing social discrimination against long-term care (LTC) facilities' healthcare professionals (HCPs) and their intention to stay in the current workplace during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants included a convenience sample of 2,143 HCPs (nurses [21.5 %], nurse aids or residential care workers [40.1 %], social workers [12.1 %], and others [26.4 %]) working at 223 LTC facilities in 13 countries/regions. About 37.5 % of the participants reported experiencing social discrimination, and the percentage ranged from 15.3 % to 77.9 % across countries/regions. Controlling for socio-demographic and work-related variables, experiencing social discrimination was significantly associated with a lower intention to stay, whereas receiving psychological support showed a statistically significant positive association (p-value=0.015 and <0.001, respectively). The interaction term between social discrimination and psychological support showed a statistically significant positive association with the intention to stay, indicating a moderating role of the psychological support.
OBJECTIVE:This study was conducted to investigate individuals' perceptions of media messages about the COVID-19 pandemic and the effect of these messages on their fear and uncertainty. METHODS:Data for this descriptive correlational study were collected between October and November 2020. A total of 653 individuals living in Turkey provided online survey data by completing a Personal Information Form, the Pandemic Uncertainty Scale, and the COVID-19 Pandemic Fear Scale. Aim: Cosmetics may be harmful to human health due to the substances they contain. University students commonly use these products. Health promotion and maintenance are closely associated with gaining healthy lifestyle behaviors, too. People need to be aware of the benefits of changing their lifestyles if they want to maintain their health and ward off illnesses. The health awareness of individuals can play a significant role in giving up their unhealthy behaviors and developing conscious behaviors. The aim of this study was to examine the use of cosmetic products and the awareness of healthy life among university students who commonly use cosmetics. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive and cross-sectional study conducted with university students between May 2021 and February 2022. The population consisted of 2757 students, and the sample of the study consisted of 422 students who attended a foundation university and met the inclusion criteria. The data were collected from the students using an Information Form and the Healthy Life Awareness Scale over Google Forms. The data were analyzed in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software program using descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney U test, a nonparametric test. Results: The students had a mean age of 20.24 +/- 2.09 years; approximately 78.1% of them were females and they were commonly using cosmetics every day (62.3%), the most frequently used oral and dental care products (20.7%), and hair care products (20.2%). Half or fewer of the participants were aware of the symbols specific to cosmetic products, such as consumed within x days of opening, shelf life, protection against ultraviolet rays, and compliance with the standards. The awareness of healthy life was above the moderate level (59.0 +/- 9.6) and was higher in those who were females and paid attention to the products' protection band, color/odor changes, and expiration date. It was observed that one-third of the participants shared their items with others, and one-quarter of them used items of others. Those who did not share their own cosmetics with others and did not use those of others had a higher awareness about healthy life. Conclusion: It was concluded that students who had high awareness of healthy life used cosmetic products more consciously. In order for young people to gain healthy life behaviors and to prevent the unnecessary use of cosmetic products, it is recommended to establish information platforms, particularly on the internet and social media, and to organize training programs that include their families and individuals in their immediate circle and also peer learning.
