AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:To identify final-year undergraduate students and new graduate nurses' behavioural intentions towards medication safety across four countries. BACKGROUND:Medication errors are a common and avoidable occurrence, being costly for not only patients but also for health systems and society. DESIGN:A multi-site cross-sectional study. METHODS:A self-administered survey was distributed to students and new graduate nurses in South Africa, India, Turkey and Australia. Descriptive statistics were calculated for all survey items. Multiple linear regressions were performed to predict behavioural intentions using the three Theory of Planned Behaviour constructs: attitudes, behavioural control and subjective norms. This study adheres to the STROBE guidelines. RESULTS:Data were analysed for 432 students and 576 new graduate nurses. Across all countries, new graduate nurses reported significantly higher scores on all the TPB variables compared with student nurses. Attitudes towards medication management were found significantly and positively related to intention to practice safe medication management for both student and new graduate nurses. Total perceived behavioural control was significantly and negatively related to intention to practice safe medication management for students. CONCLUSION:Student and new graduate nurses showed favourable attitude, subjective norm, perceived behaviour control and intention in practising medication safety. However, differences in countries require further exploration on the factors influencing attitudes towards medication safety among student nurses and new nurse graduates. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE:Understanding student and new graduate nurses' medication administration practices is important to inform strategies aimed at improving patient safety. The findings of this study highlight the need for an internationally coordinated approach to ensure safe medication administration by student and new graduate nurses.
Background: Reporting, investigating, and full disclosure of medication errors (MEs) is a fundamental component of patient safety. Therefore, determining nursing students' intention to report MEs is important. Purpose: This study examined the factors related to nursing students' intention to report MEs and the use of the Turkish version of the Theory of Planned Behavior Medication Safety Questionnaire (TPB-MSQ-T). Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used with a sample of 227 undergraduate nursing students in Istanbul, Turkey. Students' intentions to report MEs were measured using an online TPB-MSQ-T. Quantitative analysis was conducted. Results: Attitudes and perceived behavioral control (PBC) were significant predictors of intention to report MEs (P = .05 and P = .01, respectively), but subjective norms did not predict it (P = .11). The Cronbach's a of the questionnaire was 0.88. Conclusions: Attitude and PBC are important determinants of nursing students' intention to report MEs. The TPB-MSQ-T can be used for identifying the main determinants of intention to report MEs.

Aim: In this study, the dissertation research ethics as applied to experimental and quasi-experimental studies undertaken in the field of nursing in Turkey were examined. materials and Methods: It is a retrospective and descriptive study. The theses were accessed by browsing the “National Thesis Center” of the Higher Education Institution. For the research, the full texts of doctoral dissertations undertaken with an experimental / semi-experimental research design within the nursing field were studied. The theses were evaluated by using a questionnaire developed by the researchers in the light of the existing nursing literature. The data were evaluated as absolute numbers and percentages using the SPSS 21.0 software. findings: 720 doctoral theses that fell within the scope of the study were accessed from the nursing theses held in the national thesis center for 1985-2016; then 470 theses matching the criteria were examined closely. It was determined that 59.1%of the theses examined employed an informed consent form and were of experimental type, 90.2%of them had obtained institutional permission and 85.5%of them had been approved by an ethics committee. 89.6%of the theses do not indicate in the informed consent forms how the participants’ data were to be held; 51.8%contain a declaration that information will be kept confidential. Conclusions: It is noted that doctoral dissertations in the field of nursing undertaken with an experimental or semi-experimental design in Turkey are missing from internationally accepted publications and, in particular, from the framework of procedures for obtaining informed consent. It is recommended that new researchers be trained during their undergraduate and postgraduate education in how to conduct research and be instructed in the ethical standards and information that must be included in declarations, in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration.
INTRODUCTION: Organizational commitment which is formed as the result of the organization-employee relationship is the power of the commitment that employees feel for the organization they work. It is a necessity to increase nurses' commitment to the health organization in which the majority of the workers are nurses. Nurses' commitment to their organization is not only important for themselves but it is also important for ill/healthy individuals and for the economy of the country. In this study, effects of certain socio-demographic characteristics of nurses who work in a university hospital on their organizational commitment levels were examined. METHODS: This research is a descriptive and involves all nurses who work at University Hospital. The data were collected by using "Socio-Demographic Characteristics Information Form" and 'Organizational Commitment Scale' translated into Turkish by Dagli, Elcicek and Zakir (2018). Results of the study were obtained by applying a survey to a total of 190 nurses between the dates of December 2018 and April 2019. SPSS 22.0 package program was used to evaluate the data. RESULTS: It was found that the level of organizational commitment of the nurses was moderate 3.13+-0.16. According to result of the logistic regression analysis, a significant difference was found between the nurses' level of organizational commitment and their ages, education levels, professional experience, income levels; while no significant difference was found between the nurses' level of organizational commitment and their genders and marital status. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: As a result, in this study difference was found between the nurses' level of organizational commitment and socio demographic characteristics so executive nurses should focus on this issue.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to examine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Pediatric Quality of Life (PedsQL™): The Family Impact Module. The sample of this methodological study included 201 parents whose children were diagnosed with diabetes in the endocrinology policlinics of two hospitals.
