In comparison with other areas, there is a noticeable deficit of digital editions in the field of 20th and 21st century scientific monographs and collected essays. The project Digizo is a prototypical attempt to make copyrighted literature available in open access. This article outlines the legal framework and methods on which this project is based. Furthermore it describes the actual implementation in terms of content, digitization and online publication. On the whole this model project seems well suited for expansion to other areas of collection and other legal constellations.

Mit dem Projekt Digi20 wurde ein prototypischer Weg erprobt, um urheberrechtlich geschützte Literatur im Open Access zugänglich machen zu können. Der vorliegende Beitrag skizziert zum einen die rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen und die methodischen Überlegungen, die dem Projekt zugrunde lagen. Zum anderen wird die konkrete Umsetzung sowohl hinsichtlich der inhaltlichen Aspekte wie auch der Digitalisierung und Online-Bereitstellung erläutert. Insgesamt scheint das mit diesem Projekt erprobte Modell geeignet zu sein, auf weitere Bestände ausgeweitet und auf andere Rechtekonstellationen übertragen zu werden.
Newspaper digitisation is the focus of many digitisation projects abroad. Major national newspaper portals supply impressive proof for this. in German-speaking countries this area of endeavor is only gradually gaining attention.This article selectively highlights the problems and challenges involved and surveys the current, very heterogeneous projects as a whole. In conclusion, the issue of access and, with it, the presentation of digitalized newspapers is considered;this is significant, if for no other reason than because the perception and acceptance of such a service among the users will be influenced by it to no small degree.
