Purpose This study aims to examine user satisfaction and continuance intention in a mandatory cloud-based expense management system (CBEMS) within a public university. It investigates how performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions and trust shape post-adoption outcomes, and how perceived training adequacy conditions these relationships.Design/methodology/approach Drawing on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology and IS continuance theory, survey data were collected from 124 faculty, staff and student employees using a mandatory CBEMS (Chrome River). Partial least squares structural equation modeling was used, combining multi-group analysis (trained vs non-trained users) with a post hoc continuous moderation approach to ensure robustness.Findings Performance expectancy and effort expectancy consistently drive user satisfaction across groups, and satisfaction strongly predicts continuance intention. However, results reveal a decoupling between continuance intention and satisfaction under mandatory conditions. Training is positively associated with continuance intention but does not improve user satisfaction and, in some conditions, may reduce it. Facilitating conditions also exhibit divergent effects, supporting continuance for non-trained users but reducing satisfaction among trained users.Research limitations/implications The study is based on cross-sectional, self-reported data from a single institution, limiting generalizability. Future research should examine training design, longitudinal effects and cross-organizational contexts.Practical implications Organizations implementing mandatory financial systems should move beyond generic training toward role-based, task-oriented support that addresses real workflow challenges. Enhancing transparency around system processes and governance is also critical, particularly for less-trained users.Originality/value This study contributes to accounting information systems and mandatory IS research by demonstrating that behavioral compliance and attitudinal acceptance are not equivalent. The findings offer an explanatory account - consistent with the study's cross-sectional design - suggesting that training enhances users' capability to continue using a system while also exposing system limitations, thereby weakening satisfaction. These findings extend post-adoption theory to compliance-driven environments and provide actionable insights for managing mandated digital systems.
Using Technology Acceptance Model, Theory of Planned Behavior, and Privacy Calculus as theoretical frameworks, this study examined environmental and public health/safety dispositions and environmental and public health/safety benefits, perceived usefulness, privacy risk, and trust as they relate to U.S consumers intention to adopt drone delivery services. This study employed Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling methods and data were collected online using Amazon Mechanical Turk, resulting in 687 respondents. The results show that the intention to use drones for delivery increases if consumers perceive drone delivery to be useful. Additionally, perceived usefulness was influenced by a person's environmental and public health/safety dispositions along with related benefits. Additionally, as a person's perceived usefulness increases their perceived privacy risk decreases. Further, this study found that organisational trust moderates the negative effect of privacy risk on drone adoption.
Corporate knowledge becomes enterprise strategic resources for sustaining corporate competitiveness by transferring irreplaceable diversified knowledge among employees. One key challenge for enterprises is to ensure that employees mutually and effectively share knowledge. This study integrates a social exchange perspective to understand key factors conducive to successful knowledge transfer in two dimensions: velocity and viscosity. Three key construct areas are examined for influence on the two dependent variables: micro levels (individual and group), macro level (organizational), and knowledge factors. 225 knowledge management system users in 15 companies were surveyed. A path analysis was used to validate 17 proposed hypotheses, with four major findings reported as results: 1) all eight predictive factors exhibited significant influence on both dependent variables; 2) measures of both dependent variables persistently increased with positive influence from common factors of articulability, incentives and training; 3) the organization must consider differential effects of knowledge, individuality, and organization on the two dependent variables; and 4) some factors potentially negatively affect dependent variables. For example, excessive interaction may decrease velocity, while employees with high perceived self-efficacy may decrease velocity and viscosity.
PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine tacit knowledge sharing within information systems development (ISD) projects by exploring the combination of social interdependence theory and regulatory focus theory (RFT).Design/methodology/approachA survey was conducted on 198 ISD professionals to investigate the effect of social interdependence on tacit knowledge sharing. The survey data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), and the results were discussed.FindingsThis study reveals that team members tend to share tacit knowledge in a way characterized by cooperative interdependence, and different patterns of social interdependence have an impact on tacit knowledge sharing. The RFT explains the disparities in attitude toward tacit knowledge sharing. Specifically, individuals with a prevention-focused orientation positively moderate the impact of competitive interdependence on tacit knowledge sharing, while those with a promotion-focused orientation have a negative moderating effect on the effect of competitive interdependence on tacit knowledge sharing. Moreover, promotion-focused individuals negatively moderate the effect of cooperative interdependence on tacit knowledge sharing.Originality/valueThe study identifies important aspects of social interdependence in ISD projects that affect the management of tacit knowledge. Furthermore, the study shows that the influence of cooperative and competitive interdependence on tacit knowledge sharing is moderated by the regulatory focus of an individual, providing new insights into ISD knowledge management.
Background The increased environmental uncertainty caused by the global pandemic creates challenges for academic incubators. The lack of vital services has decreased the chances of entrepreneurial success for student ventures. This study aims to provide insights into the impact of environmental uncertainties on students’ relationships with academic incubators, thereby affecting user satisfaction and entrepreneurial success. This study further investigates the moderating role of entrepreneurial orientation the internal locus of control on the relationships between environmental uncertainty, relationship with academic incubator, and entrepreneurial successMethods The PLS-SEM method was used to analyze the relationships between all the constructs.Results The findings show that environmental uncertainty can create an urgent need for student entrepreneurs to approach the academic incubator for support and maintain good relationships.Conclusion The ad-hoc relationship formed during the environmental uncertainty does not necessarily help student entrepreneurs increase their chance of success in launching their business.
Purpose - This research aims to investigate the continuance intention of mobile payment services in Thailand based on the perceived innovativeness (PI) and task-technology fit (TTF) theories. The high attrition rate of mobile payment services in the market and lack of studies exploring the effect of personal attributes on continuance intention motivate the research. Design/Methodology/Approach - 544 Thai mobile payment users were surveyed. Relationships between mobile technology skills, perceived usefulness of mobile payment services, perceived ease of use, PI, TTF, and continuance intention were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). Findings - The results indicate that perceived usefulness is the primary antecedent for TTF. Both TTF and PI were also found to have a significantly positive effect on the increase of continuance intention to use mobile payment services. Moreover, PI was found to have a strong negative moderating effect on the relationship between perceived task-technology fit and the continuance intention of using mobile payment services. Research Implications - The findings provide important insights for mobile payment service providers on how to effectively target users and increase the intention to continue using mobile payment services.
ABSTRACT Organisations have begun testing last mile drone delivery and will likely push to use it more in the near future. This research examines the influence of privacy, legislation, organisational trust, and usefulness on consumers’ intention to adopt last mile drone delivery services. Partial Least Squares – Structural Equation Modelling is used to evaluate the measurement and structural models. Sample data were collected from Amazon Mechanical Turk using an online survey. The analysis shows that as perceived privacy risk increases, the intention to adopt drone delivery service decreases. Additionally, privacy disposition influences privacy concerns and that both privacy concerns and legislative protections each influence perceived privacy risk. Further, perceived usefulness has the greatest influence on consumers’ intention to adopt drones for delivery. Even more, as consumers see drone delivery as more useful, their perceived privacy risk is reduced. Trust further influences consumers’ intention to adopt drones for delivery.
Generation Zers are digital natives who may be early adopters of drone delivery services for e-commerce. Therefore, e-commerce vendors must understand what causes Gen Zers to believe, desire, and intend to adopt drone delivery services. Gen Zers were surveyed regarding their decision-making processes using the DITTO research framework (Diversity, Individualism, Teamwork, Technology, and Organizational Support) and belief-desire-intention theory. A survey was conducted with 83 Gen Zers from the United States, and data was analyzed using multilinear regression analysis. Many important implications can be drawn from the analysis results. Before Gen Zers adopt drone delivery services, the "seeing is believing" moment appears to be essential, according to the analysis. Moreover, e-commerce vendors should emphasize drone delivery's relative advantages in terms of speed and environmental protection. Based on our findings, Gen Zers are rational decision-makers when it comes to adopting drone delivery services. To motivate Gen Zers to use drone delivery services, it is imperative to help them develop the belief and increase their desire.
Mobile instant messaging (MIM) applications have gained popularity in recent years. Their useful and effective features help users communicate more effectively. Communication technology adoption requires an understanding of cultural factors. In this study, there are four cultural dimensions evaluated: collectivism (COL), masculinity (MAS), power distance (PWR), and uncertainty avoidance (UA). These four cultural dimensions of a country were studied in order to understand their relation to two constructs of friendship development (FD) and relationship management (RM). Furthermore, this study examines the relationship between those two constructs and people's intentions to continue utilizing MIM. Three hundred and twenty-one respondents from Taiwan participated in an online survey. The PLS-SEM method was used to perform the data analysis. In the study, a significant correlation was found between collectivism and friendship development and relationship management. However, masculinity does not have a significant impact on friendship development. A high power distance does not negatively affect relationship management. A high power distance has a significant positive effect on relationship management. An increase in uncertainty avoidance does not negatively affect friendship development. However, an increase in uncertainty avoidance has a significant positive effect on friendship development. MIM apps for friendship development and relationship maintenance are impacted by four cultural dimensions. These findings provide theoretical and practical implications for insight into these factors.
Drone delivery is an emerging service at the early adoption stage. It is imperative to understand what it takes for the public to accept such emerging services. This study asks what mechanism influences people's switching intention in e-commerce drone delivery services. A 7 points Likert scale questionnaire were developed after the two rounds of pretest and a total of 83 surveys were collected from a business school in USA. This study applies privacy calculus theory and technology anxiety in innovation to develop a research model. An empirical survey and structural equation modeling analysis with SmartPLS and a consistent PLS algorithm are used to understand the hedging effect of relative advantages of drone delivery services and technology anxiety on the switching intention of e-commerce consumers. Theoretically, this research adds the e-commence literature, suggesting that people appreciate drone delivery's speed and environmental protection advantages. However, privacy risk severity and vulnerability are not significant predictors of technology anxiety, negatively impacting switching intention. This study also provided practical contribution to improve the service development of e-commerce company to deliver their products to their customers with the most efficient resources being used.
Drone delivery services are novelty concepts to most people in emerging market economies. To gain competitive advantages, retailers in emerging market need to be proactive in understanding the key factors contributing to the acceptance of last-mile drone delivery services by general users. This study offers personal and social perspectives of the adoption of drone delivery services by Thai users. A total of 391 respondents participated in an online survey. The PLS-SEM method was used to perform the data analysis. The analysis results show that personal innovativeness and opinion passions are antecedents for Thai users’ perceived ease of use. However, these two antecedents do not affect Thai users’ perceived usefulness for drone delivery services. In addition, perceived privacy risk has a negative moderating effect on the relationship between PEOU and the adoption of drone delivery services. In contrast, Thai users’ perceived privacy risk has no significant moderating effect on the relationship between PU and the intention to adopt drone delivery services. Lastly, PEOU has a significant positive effect on the intention of users to adopt drone delivery services, whereas PU does not have any significant effect. These findings provide theoretical and practical implications on the moderating effect of perceived privacy risks on the relationships between perceptions and the intention to adopt the last-mile drone delivery service.
Abstract Vaccine tourism is a new type of medical tourism that allows tourists to travel internationally to receive the vaccine occultation while they are traveling. There are strong possibilities that vaccine tourism will grow in popularity due to recent COVID-19 vaccine discrepancy between rich and poor countries and uncertainty of the current and future variation in diseases. Vaccine tourism can play important role to revive the stagnant tourism industry resulted from COVID-19 pandemic and serve as possible alternative type of tourism package for the future. This study aims to investigate factors that influence potential tourists to adopt vaccine tourism. Two hundred and fifty-four questionnaires were collected through tourism social media sites in Thailand. PLS-SEM was conducted to examine the causal relationships. The findings show that innovative and informative users are more likely to adopt vaccine tourism. The study confirms the need to consider personal attitudes when studying behavioral intentions. Furthermore, it highlights opportunities for the tourism industry to further promote the new type of medical tourism to the innovative and informative tourists.
The rise in MIM apps usage have resulted in increased interruptions to people daily social life, causing distractions and online social anxiety. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of social, technical, and mobility factors on social anxiety, as well as the initial and continuation intention of users of MIM applications. We surveyed 231 Taiwanese users of the leading MIM app LINE. Smart-PLS was adopted to analyze social, technical, mobility, social anxiety, and MIM continuation intentions. Our findings show that online social anxiety can decrease both initial and continuation intentions for MIM apps. Moreover, online social anxiety moderates the relationship between initial and continuance adoption intentions. However, social, technical, and mobility factors appears to have positive influences on the initial MIM adoption intention. Therefore, the three factors can be integrated to promote MIM app use without increasing social anxiety.
The human–computer interaction (HCI) for mobile applications is becoming increasingly important as mobile applications have become an integral part of everyday life. Mobile app developers need to continuously improve the users’ experience to fulfill their conditions, which in turn, can trigger the purchase decision. Trust is another important factor, driving users to adopt mobile apps and use them to make online purchases. However, mobile app developers constantly face the dilemma between user trust and HCI experiences. This study’s primary purpose is to investigate the HCI and trust factors for the continued use of mobile payment apps and their services. Based on the human–computer interaction, task–technology fit, and IS success theories, an integrative framework is proposed to examine the relationships between continuance intention and its antecedents. An online survey was conducted to collect data from 544 mobile users. The results of the analyses indicate that trust plays a more significant role than HCI in increasing the users’ continuance usage of mobile payment services. As for improving HCI experiences for users, this study shows that system quality plays the most important role, followed by the skill of using mobile payment services and the perceived task–technology fit (TTF) for using the services. Information quality does not significantly impact the enhancement of positive HCI experiences. The results provide insights for the developers of mobile payment services to improve the user experience.
This study investigates influential factors on the use of Big Data Analytics (BDA) systems in terms of data quality, organizational support, and user satisfaction. We surveyed 236 actual users of BDA systems in different industries and used the PLS-SEM method to analyze the collected data. The empirical evidence shows that data integrity and data timeliness determine data connectivity of BDA systems, which affect user satisfaction along with relational knowledge of IT personnel. The findings also indicate that user satisfaction has a positive effect on BDA system use, whereas data connectivity does not. The findings imply that user experiences appear to have a significant influence on the intention of business practitioners to use BDA systems, but data connectivity does not. Based on the empirical findings, this study provides both theoretical and practical implications for the success of BDA systems use.
Adopting theoretical foundations of the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework and technology task fit theory, this study investigates how business managers in different management levels determine BDA use. The major findings suggest that low-level and middle-level managers decide the use of the BDA system from different perspectives. Low-level managers consider individual performance more important in their decision while the middle-level managers believe in organizational readiness and relational knowledge. Also, the relationship between data integrity and data compatibility is greater for the lower-level, while that between data timeliness and data compatibility is more substantial for the middle-level. Concerning the effect of data quality on individual performance, the middle-level perceive data compatibility and data accuracy as more important than the lower-level managers.
Since early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on global tourism. Vaccine tourism is a novel health tourism concept, which provides an opportunity for countries with a vaccine surplus to offer medical tourism packages to entice international tourists from countries with vaccine shortages to visit for sightseeing and receive vaccine inoculations. Understanding the factors that influence people to adopt vaccine tourism is one of the strategies that could boost a country's tourism sector and help to revive the local economy. This study aims to examine the factors influencing the intention to adopt and recommend COVID-19 vaccine tourism among young travelers. A total of 179 questionnaire surveys were collected from traveling-related social media outlets. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was performed to analyze the data. The results indicate that young tourists in Thailand are inclined to promote vaccine tourism to others. Price value appears to be the most significant influencing factor on intentions to both adopt and recommend vaccine tourism. Additionally, trust in the foreign healthcare system was positively associated with young travelers' intention to recommend vaccine tourism to others. Theoretically, this research adds to the medical tourism literature, suggesting that, while trust is an important factor influencing the medical tourism decision, it appears to be insignificant in the context of vaccine tourism.
