Self-service business intelligence (SSBI) enables all users, including those with limited technical skills, to perform business intelligence (BI) tasks without the support of BI experts. SSBI reduces pressure on BI experts, gives more freedom to self-reliant users and speeds up decision-making. Recent research has illustrated how organisations experience numerous challenges when trying to obtain SSBI benefits. The AQUIRE framework organises 37 identified SSBI challenges in five categories: Access and use of data, Data Quality, User Independence, creating Reports and Education. SSBI literature does poorly address how these challenges canbe tackled. This research study aimed to identify strategies on how to manage those 37 SSBI challenges. The performed case study includes 24 semi-structured interviews with respondents from two organisations which have been heavily involved in SSBI implementation. The results reveal how nine identified SSBI success factors are related to the 37 AQUIRE challenges and how they can be addressed over time.
Patient Empowerment (PE) allows patients to be more active in managing their own health and quality of life. The aim of this paper is to analyze how trust affects PE, in the context of healthcare information systems. An interview study was conducted concerning patients’ online access to electronic healthcare records. Results show that PE requires that patients trust the information that healthcare professionals and their electronic health record systems provide. Without trust, patients cannot control their own participation in relation to the healthcare professionals. This may result in a diminished ability to participate in the healthcare processes regarding their own care. Practical implications include acquired knowledge about and awareness of how trust influences PE, with particular emphasis on healthcare professionals. A trust model is presented that illustrates the trustor-trustee dimensions of PE. This model has both theoretical and practical implications in its illustration of how trust and PE connect.
Healthcare, like society in general, is facing great changes and challenges. Rapid development and uptake of digital technologies bring about the need to change. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the amount of healthcare meetings taking place online has surged. This means, among other things, that there are more healthcare actors involved in a patient’s care, and that information relating to a patient needs to be shared across borders now more than ever need to be improved. However, this is currently not done seamlessly, and there are many hinders and obstacles to overcome. This research aims at enabling a holistic approach on how to handle patient information in order to support seamless and secure care along the whole patient process. In doing so, drivers and hinders need to be identified, and a socio-technical framework with concrete guidelines will be developed. These results will be a first step towards filling this research gap, and will connect several perspectives in order to make the results truly actionable and holistic. © 2021 Copyright for this paper by its authors.
The rapid pace of digitalisation provides many smarter and more efficient ways of interacting with the world, but may also lead to the exclusion of some groups. Senior citizens are one of these groups at risk. Taking the European Digital Competence Framework for Citizens as a starting point, we investigate digital survival skills for the elderly. Data was collected from digital education workshops for senior citizens organized jointly between Telia, Swedish municipalities, and the researchers. We use content analysis to understand seniors’ perceptions of which competences they need to survive in an increasingly digital environment and provide a version of the Competence Framework targeted at senior citizen inclusion. Lessons for inclusion initiatives are drawn from the results.
Self-service Business Intelligence (SSBI) allows non-technical users to use Business Intelligence in a self-reliant manner without the support of technical users. Many organizations struggle to utilize the potential of SSBI and experience implementation challenges. This study aims to explore user-related SSBI challenges by conducting 30 qualitative interviews with 2 SSBI implementation projects. Analysis revealed challenges that can help practitioners to avoid unnecessary obstacles when implementing and using SSBI, and guide researchers in simplifying the implementation process.

In a traditional Business Intelligence (BI) system, power users serve less experienced casual users. Power users analyze and gather data requested by casual users, and produce the reports and visualizations that casual users base their decisions on. When data volumes and the usage frequency of a traditional BI system increase, power users have problems serving all the requests from casual users. The Self Service Business Intelligence (SSBI) approach can enable users to be more self-reliant and less dependent on power users. Although SSBI promises more benefits compared to a traditional BI system, many organizations fail to implement SSBI. The literature review presented in this paper discusses six SSBI challenges related to "Access and use of data" and four challenges related to "Self-reliant users". Awareness of these ten challenges can help practitioners avoid common pitfalls, when implementing SSBI, as well as guide SSBI researchers in focusing on their future research efforts.

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyze two case studies with a trust matrix tool, to identify trust issues related to electronic health records. Design/methodology/approach - A qualitative research approach is applied using two case studies. The data analysis of these studies generated a problem list, which was mapped to a trust matrix. Findings - Results demonstrate flaws in current practices and point to achieving balance between organizational, person and technology trust perspectives. The analysis revealed three challenge areas, to: achieve higher trust in patient-focussed healthcare; improve communication between patients and healthcare professionals; and establish clear terminology. By taking trust into account, a more holistic perspective on healthcare can be achieved, where trust can be obtained and optimized. Research limitations/implications - A trust matrix is tested and shown to identify trust problems on different levels and relating to trusting beliefs. Future research should elaborate and more fully address issues within three identified challenge areas. Practical implications - The trust matrix's usefulness as a tool for organizations to analyze trust problems and issues is demonstrated. Originality/value - Healthcare trust issues are captured to a greater extent and from previously unchartered perspectives.

The e-service concept has been a central concern in many research and practitioner areas in recent years. There are expectations of citizens, customers, commercial companies and public organizations of what e-services are, their functionality and benefits. However, there is conceptual confusion that may hamper collaboration and research viability. This paper explores the conceptual vagueness and presents an empirical investigation of how the e-service concept is treated in practice, along with its kindred concept "IT service". Results show that public and commercial organizations approach e-services differently, that translation problems can cause lack of comparability in research results, and that additional concepts may be introduced instead of e-service.
The problem we address is that researchers have insufficiently investigated the processes and nuances of Business and IT alignment. One attempt to tackle Business and IT alignment in a process-oriented way is to adopt the concept of IT Service Management (ITSM). However, identified challenges entails that ITSM is hard to define and that existing ITSM frameworks sometimes are considered as overly complex containing an extensive process scope, making it costly and hard to implement. The purpose of this workshop paper is to understand in what way are ITSM core processes supporting business and IT alignment? Our qualitative research approach embraced a two-phase method based on empirical studies where identified core processes were mapped using the Strategic Alignment Model. The result shows that the core of ITSM consists of five processes and that these processes somewhat constitute the bridges and interfaces that aligns Business and IT.
It is evident that user participation is a vital component for successful public e-service development. However, it is also apparent that there is little guidance in e-government research about how user participation should be implemented in practice. Some high level guidelines can be found regarding user participation design schools but there is very little guidance in existing research regarding how these design schools can be implemented in practice. In this paper we have explored public administrations’ experience of user participation, both in general systems development and in development of public e-services, in order to identify basic requirements that have to be fulfilled when implementing user participation in public e-service development. Thereafter we have applied these requirements on commonly used techniques to implement user participation in the light of three design schools: Participatory Design, User Centered Design, and User Innovation. Our results show that techniques to implement user participation in public e-service development must be adjusted to limited resources in terms of time and money as well as short development projects.
