Bis(dimethylglyoximato)cobalt complexes (cobaloximes) of various types (denoted by R-Co(DMG)2-L, where R Cl or alkyl group and L pyridine) have been used in studies of electrocatalytic reductions of organic compounds involving an alkylcobalt intermediate. Voltammetry and polarography were used to establish the electrochemical characteristics of many alkyl cobaloximes, and two reduction steps were observed: R-CoIII(DMG)2/R-CoII(DMG)2 and R-CoII(DMG)2/R-CoI(DMG)2, as previously described. Cyclic voltammetry confirmed that the cobalt—carbon bond is broken during the reduction of the alkylcobalt compounds.
The electrochemistry of technetium was studied by polarography, cyclic voltammetry and coulometry in chloride and sulfate media as a function of pH in the range 1.5–13. Compounds of Tc(III) and Tc(IV) are produced by reduction of pertechnetate, and the system Tc(III)/Tc(IV) was investigated in acidic media. The potential—acidity diagram of technetium is described for two total pertechnetate concentrations. Evidence for the dismutation of Tc(III) below pH 4 is discussed.
An electrochemical study of (meso-tetraphenylporphinato) cobalt Co(II)TPP and Co(III)TPP+ in alkaline medium (OH−) has been carried out in dimethylsulfoxide. Dismutation of Co(II)TPP was observed and a new complex with a COC bond was formed from Co(III)TPP+ and the solvent. This complex has been isolated and its structure deduced from its spectroscopic data.
Durch Alkylierung von Tetraphenylporphinatokobalt (I) mit Alkylhalogeniden werden die Alkyl‐(tetraphenyl= porphinato)‐kobalt(III)‐Verbindungen (I) erhalten.
Various alkyl(tetraphenylporphinato)cobalt(III) compounds (RCoTPP, I) have been prepared by alkylation of tetraphenylporphinatocobalt(I). Photolysis of these compounds in the presence of molecular oxygen yield new complexes for which structure ROOCoTPP (II) is assumed. Electrochemical studies of complexes I and II are reported.
Recent developments in the area of selective electrochemical fluorination of organic compounds (usually termed as “Mild fluorination”) are reviewed with specific emphasis towards optimum operating conditions for improved yields. A brief historic outline of the developments in the area is presented. The role of electrode materials (Pt, Ni, C etc.) solvents (CH3CN, THF, sulfolane etc.) supporting electrolyte and fluoride sources (Et3N·3HF, Et4NF·3HF, py·HF etc.) and operating conditions (constant potential, constant current, potential pulse, and divided cell etc.) on the overall yields and efficiency are critically evaluated based on recent research work. The types of reactants employed and the nature of products formed are also emphasised.
