Although the entrepreneurial incubation performance of the platform-led entrepreneurial ecosystem is remarkable, existing research lacks insights into how to empower startups and how to effectively improve their performance as important ecosystem participants. To address this gap, this study analyzed the questionnaire data from 368 employees of startups associated with platform enterprises established for less than 8 years. Research findings indicate that within these ecosystems, the coupling relationship between startups and platform ecosystem participants facilitates the formation of interest communities within the platform ecosystem’s inner circles. Crucially, this study reveals that formal platform governance significantly moderates these relationships, acting as an institutional safeguard that curbs opportunistic behavior and amplifies the performance-enhancing effects of coupling. This synergistic interplay between coupling and formal governance mechanisms drives collective value creation across the entire platform, and thus improves startup performance. Finally, based on the coupling intensity and governance maturity, this study has built a practical decision-making matrix, which provides clear strategic rules for startups, large enterprises and policymakers, so as to enhance sustainable collaboration and resource allocation among all ecosystem participants.
This study explores the role of meta-geopolitics’ seven capacities in competitive sustainable governance, focusing on social, economic, and science capacities as the strongest contributors to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) index. Utilizing correlation and path analysis, the research uncovers the interconnected nature of these capacities and emphasizes the importance of environmental capacity in shaping sustainable governance. While the study provides valuable insights into the complexities surrounding competitive sustainable governance, it acknowledges limitations in causation inference and the possible exclusion of cultural, historical, and geopolitical factors unique to each Pacific region country. Further research is recommended to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the role of meta-geopolitics capacities in shaping sustainable development outcomes.
This research investigates the determinants of green supply chain management (GSCM) adoption and its impact on organizational performance, while considering the potential moderating factors influencing GSCM adoption. Despite the growing prevalence of GSCM practices among Korean firms, the factors driving their adoption have not received sufficient attention. To bridge this gap, the study uses structural equation modeling, integrating stakeholder theory and resource-based theory to explore how green entrepreneurial orientation (GEO), institutional pressure, and relational capital affect GSCM adoption. Additionally, the study explores the effects of GSCM implementation on competitiveness and economic performance. Drawing data from a sample of 213 Korean manufacturing firms, the PLS-SEM analysis highlights the significant influence of GEO, institutional pressure, and relational capital on GSCM adoption. Additionally, the study emphasizes the positive impact of GSCM implementation on firm competitiveness. These findings provide valuable insights for enhancing sustainability in supply chain management and are applicable to similar context countries such as Taiwan, China, Japan, and the Netherlands.
This study investigates the transmission of market volatility between the United States and Mainland China stock markets, particularly in the context of extreme events like the 2007 subprime mortgage crisis and the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. It underscores the increasing interdependence between these markets and the role of government intervention and regulation in shaping their development. This research offers valuable insights for stakeholders, including regulators, policymakers, and investors, as they navigate the complex landscape of systemic financial risks arising from the interconnectedness of these two major financial markets.
This paper deals with an integrated and interconnected stochastic queuing-inventory system with a fresh item, a returned item, and a refurbished item. This system provides a multi-type service facility to an arriving multi-class customer through a dedicated channel. It sells fresh and refurbished items, buys used items from customers, refurbishes the used items for resale, and provides a repair service for defective items. The assumption of purchasing a used item from the customer and allowing them to buy a fresh item is a new idea in stochastic queuing-inventory modeling. To do so, this system has four parallel queues to receive four classes of customers and five dedicated servers to provide a multi-type service facility. Customers are classified according to the type of service they require. Each class of arrival follows an independent Poisson process. The service time of each dedicated server is assumed to be exponentially distributed and independent. This system assumes an instantaneous ordering policy for the replenishment of a fresh item. In the long run of this considered system, the joint probability distribution of the seven-dimensional stochastic process, significant system performance measures, and the optimum total cost are to be derived using the Neuts matrix geometric technique. The main objective of the system was to increase the occurrence of all kinds of customers by providing a multi-type service facility in one place. Buying a used item is unavoidable in an emerging society because it helps form a green society. Furthermore, the numerical result shows that the assumption of a system that allows a customer to sell their used item and purchase a new item will increase the number of customers approaching the system.
In response to the digital revolution, nowadays, many companies operate online and offline businesses in parallel to ensure their future competitiveness. This research examines the inventory strategy for multi-product vendor-buyer supply chain systems, considering space constraints and carbon emissions, in order to improve competence in managing online and offline integrated orders. We amalgamate costs and emissions in transport and storage. Here, we divide the warehouse of the buyer into two stages: one for satisfying online orders and the other for satisfying offline orders. We also assume that additional crashing costs reduce the lead times for receiving products in the buyer’s warehouse. This study demonstrates a mathematical model in the form of a constrained non-linear programme (NLP) and derives a Lagrangian multiplier method to solve it. An iterative solution procedure is designed in order to attain sustainable manufacturing decisions, which are illustrated numerically.
Unlike alliance proponents, we posited that high-tech small firms (HTSFs) may not prefer interfirm collaboration for innovation activities. Drawing on the transaction cost and corporate entrepreneurship perspectives, we proposed that boundary decisions in innovation activities are determined by the perceived uncertainties of innovation projects and entrepreneurial orientation (EO). We also examined the consequences of collaborative innovation. In a sample of 178 Korean HTSFs in software development, we found that some aspects of perceived uncertainty prevented collaborative innovation, and that EO moderated this effect, enhancing the outcomes of collaborative innovation. We discuss theoretical and practical insights of these findings.
본 연구는 외국기업의 우리기업 인수 후 성과에 영향을 미치는 요소가 무엇인지를 규명하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 그동안 인수 후 성과에 관한 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔으나 외국기업이 우리기업을 인수한 사례를 대상으로 한 연구는 거의 전무한 실정이었다. 시장이 글로벌화 되고 신흥 선진국의 성장이 가속화됨에 따라 우리기업을 인수하고자 하는 해외기업이 늘고 있다. 본 연구를 토대로 그 성패요소를 규명하여 향후 진행될 유사한 사례에 이론적 실무적 시사점을 제공하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이에 본 연구는 관련 문헌을 토대로 지식이전, 국가적 차이, 기업문화적 차이, 전략적 적합성이 해외기업의 우리기업 인수 시 핵심성공요소임을 도출하였고 이들 요소의 상호작용이 인수 후 성과에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 검증하였다. 동시에 인수-피인수 기업간 국가적, 기업문화적, 전략적 차이가 지식이전과 인수 후 성과에 어떠한 조절효과로 작용하는지를 검증하였다. 가설검증을 위해 지난 2008년부터 2010년간 진행되었던 104건의 외국기업의 국내기업 인수사례를 연구대상으로 하여 설문조사를 하였고 이중 84개 해당기업을 분석에 사용하였다. 분석결과, 해외기업 국내기업 인수시 지식이전, 기업문화적 차이, 전략적 적합성은 인수 후 성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 판명되었다. 한편, 인수-피인수기업 간 기업문화적 차이가 작고, 전략적 적합성이 높을수록 지식이전이 인수성과에 미치는 긍정적 효과 역시 증가하는 것으로 판명되었다. 국가적 차이는 인수 후 성과에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않았으며 지식이전과 인수성과의 조절효과로도 작용하지 않았다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 향후 한국기업을 인수하고자 하는 외국기업은 지식이전을 인수의 최우선 목표로 삼고 인수와 통합작업을 추진할 경우 성공가능성이 한층 높아진다는 시사점을 도출하였다. 이를 위해 인수-피인수 기업간 지식이전을 원활히 할 수 있는 기업환경을 조성하는 데 초점을 두고 전략적, 기업문화적으로 부합하는 파트너를 물색해야 하며 관련하여 무엇을 고려해야 하는지를 시사점의 하나로 제공하였다. 연구의 한계와 후속 연구의 필요성도 아울러 제공하였다.
Although external development has been strongly recommended as an effective governance strategy for new technology development projects (NTDPs), it may not always be appropriate for high-tech small firms (HTSFs). This study examined South Korean HTSF decision makers’ consideration of internal and external development for NTDPs. Drawing on transaction-cost and resource-based perspectives, we identified five key determinants of governance decisions: respondents’ perceived levels of technological capability, entrepreneurial strategic orientation, specialized asset investment, technological uncertainty and environmental uncertainty. A questionnaire-based survey of Korean HTSFs in the telecommunications industry yielded a sample of 258 respondents. On the basis of a logistic regression analysis of the firms’ responses, we found that firms’ perceived technological capability, entrepreneurs’ strategic orientations, levels of technological uncertainty and redeployability of invested assets were key criteria in the decision-making process. Specifically, this study showed that technologically strong Korean HTSFs preferred to use internal development methods, but tended to choose external development methods when they perceived high levels of technological uncertainty and low levels of invested asset redeployability. Entrepreneurs’ strategic orientation also influenced the choice of an external development method. On the basis of our empirical results, we discuss the managerial and practical implications of our research.
This research empirically examines the effect of various Internet shopping site qualities on the utilitarian and hedonic values of Internet shopping. The influence of the perceived level of Internet shopping value on customer satisfaction and repurchase intention is also investigated. We perform structural equation analysis with a sample of 293 observations consisting of two different income groups (workforce and student). Our results show that while system and service qualities are critical factors affecting utilitarian shopping value, information and service qualities are the factors most closely associated with hedonic shopping value. These findings suggest that service quality plays a significant role in increasing both utilitarian and hedonic shopping values. Our results also show that the impact of quality factors on Internet shopping values and subsequent repurchase intention differs across the two income groups.
Inter-firm collaboration as a technology-sourcing decision of Korean high-tech small firms receives great attention as its strategic importance to the technological innovation and economic growth of Korean economy is growing immensely. However, there exists no extensive data and in-depth analysis of under what conditions the decision-makers actually choose technology alliance, or vice versa. This question remains unanswered because existing studies fail to specify cases under which technology-sourcing decision is employed as well as the scope of technological collaboration. This study is the first attempt to tackle these problems by providing a comprehensive framework to guide decision-makers in making appropriate technology strategy. As a first step, this study investigated how and whether the existing decision-makers would have a clear set of decision rules between in-house development and technology alliance and equity alliance and non-equity alliance. To achieve this, extensive literature reviews were undertaken and some consultation from industry experts was carried out. Then, this study developed a two-staged contingency model which denotes that the decision-makers are likely to go through two sequential and contiguous steps until they reach their final decision. Drawing on the decision-makers' perception of their firms' internal condition, external environment and technology projects, 11 factors and 5 factors were identified as determinants in stage One and in stage Two respectively. The result shows that, in the first stage of decision-making, in-house development was preferred when the firms perceived that their technological capability was strong; while technology alliance was preferred when they perceived that they were more entrepreneurially-oriented, when the projects required specialised asset investment and the technology project was highly risky. In addition, the pressure for social legitimacy influenced their decision to undertake technology alliance. In the second stage of decision-making, equity alliance was preferred what the firms perceived that the scope of the cooperative project was wider, while non-equity alliance was preferred when they perceived some degree of mutual trust with potential partners. Apart from identifying the determinants, this study found that technology cooperation is not widely adopted as a technology-sourcing method compared to in-house development; only one in five responding firms is adopting it. That is because, unless the responding firms perceive that they are technologically far less capable, inter-firm, collaboration is not an attractive option for them even if their technology development projects are in a condition that is favourable for adopting inter-firm collaboration. This study suggests that studies on small firm's inter-firm collaboration and technology-sourcing decision should be led into a new direction. First, they should be based on the careful selection of sample firms and scope of technological collaboration. Second, theoretical integration is essential to understand the complex nature of their technology-sourcing decision. Third, unlike in other studies, the transaction cost (TC) perspective is still powerful in explaining the antecedents; economising is still the most important consideration in a small firm's technology-sourcing decision. Finally, a normative and rationalised approach to the alliance studies has been the major methodology in alliance studies, however, the qualitative approach is becoming more important as the use of formal collaboration is less frequent and the firms exchange relevant information through informal relationships that may exist within their industrial clusters, whose phenomenon can be hard to grasp through statistical analysis.
