BackgroundUniversity represents a critical period for individual development and a key transition into wider society. Interpersonal conflicts arising from relational difficulties can lead to adverse outcomes, including risks to personal safety. This study examined the relationship between physical exercise and college students’ interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution strategies, and the mediating role of physical exercise in interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution strategies.MethodsA cross-sectional survey design was used with a sample of 1,737 undergraduate students. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, the Physical Activity Rating Scale, the Comprehensive Interpersonal Relationship Diagnostic Scale, and the Organizational Conflict Inventory. The relationships among variables were tested through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), statistical significance of mediation effects was tested by bias-corrected confidence intervals for bootstrap samples.ResultsThe findings indicated that interpersonal disturbance had significant direct effects on multiple conflict resolution strategies, particularly collaboration and domination. Physical exercise was significantly associated with a range of strategies, including obliging, dominating, avoiding, and compromising (β: 0.07–0.08, p < 0.05). Bootstrap samples indicate that: (1) physical exercise on interpersonal disturbance and obliging was significant (β = 0.02, 95% CI: [0.005, 0.035]). (2) The indirect effect of physical exercise on interpersonal disturbance and compromising was significant (β = 0.02, 95% CI: [0.002, 0.037]). (3) Physical exercise exhibits a significant indirect effect between interpersonal disturbance and avoiding (β = 0.02, 95% CI: [0.003, 0.037]). (4) Physical exercise exhibits a significant indirect effect between interpersonal disturbance and dominating (β = 0.02, 95% CI: [0.005, 0.038]). These results suggest that physical exercise plays an important mediating role in the relationship between interpersonal disturbance and the selection of conflict resolution strategies.ConclusionPhysical exercise showed positive associations with interpersonal relationship quality and conflict resolution strategies. It is predicted that college students with interpersonal disturbances can indirectly affect the choice of conflict resolution strategy through physical exercise.
Background: Insufficient physical exercise is a growing public health concern in China, where only 30.3% of adults exercise regularly. Exploring the key factors associated with physical exercise participation is essential for promoting healthier lifestyles. Method: This study utilized data from the 2021 China General Social Survey (CGSS) to apply a progressive framework of dimensionality reduction, machine learning prediction, and SHAP-based interpretability analysis. A total of 19 potential factors were considered, with LassoCV used for feature selection and multiple models constructed for comparison. Results: The SVM model showed the best predictive performance. SHAP analysis revealed that watching sports events, household registration, educational attainment, subjective well-being, smoking, age, sleep quality, social activities, and residence suitability for physical exercise are the most important factors influencing participation. Higher education, greater subjective well-being, urban residency, frequent sports viewing, and residence suitability for physical exercise were positively associated with participation, while smoking and poor sleep quality were negatively associated with it. Conclusion: This study highlights the value of combining machine learning with interpretability methods to uncover the key predictors of physical exercise. The findings provide new evidence on the social, psychological, and environmental factors associated with Chinese adults' exercise behavior, offering insights for targeted health promotion strategies.
Background:As China's population ages, the burden of anxiety is increasing. Physical activity (PA) is a cost-effective lifestyle factor, but its associations with mental health differ by domain and volume. Methods:This cross-sectional study included 4394 rural middle-aged and older adults (mean age 56.67±8.73 years) from the Yangzhou Upper Gastrointestinal Disease Screening Cohort. PA was assessed using a questionnaire based on the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and anxiety was measured with the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7). Logistic regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) models were used to examine associations and nonlinear patterns. Sensitivity analyses assessed robustness. Results:Domain-specific associations with anxiety were observed. After confounder adjustment, each 1-SD increase in total physical activity (TPA) and occupational physical activity (OPA) was associated with 22% higher odds of anxiety (both OR=1.22, 95% CI: 1.11-1.34, P<0.001). Household physical activity (HPA) showed a marginally positive association (OR=1.10, 95% CI: 1.00-1.21, P=0.050), whereas leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) was inversely associated (OR=0.88, 95% CI: 0.80-0.96, P=0.004). RCS analysis further revealed reverse L-shaped dose-response relationships for TPA and OPA, with inflection points at 7098.72 and 4200.11 MET-min/week, respectively. Conclusion:We found that the relationship between PA and anxiety was domain-specific. OPA was positively associated with anxiety above a certain threshold, whereas LTPA was inversely associated. HPA showed only a weak positive association. Public health strategies should distinguish between activity domains and population characteristics, and implement targeted interventions for anxiety.
Background:This study aimed to examine the relationship between physical activity (PA) and smartphone addiction among Chinese college students, with the goal of understanding whether higher levels of PA can mitigate the risk of smartphone addiction. Methods:The study adopted a questionnaire and psychological measurement method and used the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS) to assess the PA levels and smartphone dependence of 9,569 college students. By considering the latent category structure of individual smartphone addiction, the study conducted a deep analysis of the impact of different intensities of PA on smartphone addiction. Results:The PA level among Chinese college students was generally high (t = - 97.66, p < 0.001). However, the prevalence of smartphone dependence was also notably high, affecting 35.9% of students. The necessity of PA's impact on smartphone dependencewas not significant (p > 0.05), indicating that PA was significantly associated with lower levels of smartphone dependence. Detailed analysis revealed that smartphone addicts experienced the highest level of loss of control, and significantly greater than average levels of withdrawal, inefficiency, and escapism (p > 0.05). College students with higher PA levels tended to have lower smartphone dependence than those with low PA levels (b = - 0.422, p < 0.05, OR = 0.656). Conclusion:The results suggested that positive PA can effectively alleviate the negative impacts of smartphone addiction. Therefore, interventions aimed at increasing PA could be beneficial in reducing smartphone dependence.
To examine the complex relationships among physical activity, emotion regulation, psychological stress, and mood states in college students, this study analyzed questionnaire data collected from 494 participants. Network analysis was employed to construct a global association network, compare gender differences, and characterize patterns of directed statistical dependencies via directed acyclic graph (DAG) analysis. The results showed that: (1) the network comprised 25 nodes and 94 non-zero edges, reflecting extensive conditional associations across the four domains; (2) bridge centrality analysis identified cognitive reappraisal, self-related emotions, and anger as key bridge nodes, with cognitive reappraisal exhibiting the highest bridge strength; (3) accuracy and stability analyses yielded a centrality stability coefficient (CS) of 0.749 for strength, indicating adequate network stability; (4) network comparison tests revealed no significant gender differences in overall network structure or global strength, although certain local edge weights differed; (5) DAG analysis suggested that stable directional dependencies were primarily concentrated within individual subsystems, with no marked structural differences observed between male and female groups. In conclusion, physical activity, emotion regulation, psychological stress, and mood states appear to constitute an interconnected psychological adaptation system. Cognitive reappraisal, self-related emotions, and anger likely serve as pivotal bridge nodes warranting priority in future longitudinal research and targeted interventions.
Bullying victimization is a major risk factor for adolescents’ school adjustment, yet the mechanisms linking these experiences remain unclear. This study examined whether psychological resilience mediates the association between bullying victimization and school adjustment among junior high school students, and whether physical activity moderates this process. Using a cross-sectional design, data were obtained from 19,149 junior high school students in the Adolescent Health Theme Database. Regression, Bootstrap mediation, and moderated mediation analyses were conducted. Bullying victimization significantly and negatively associated with school adjustment (β = −0.460, p < 0.001). Psychological resilience partially accounted for this association: bullying victimization was negatively associated with psychological resilience (β = −0.314, p < 0.001), and psychological resilience was positively associated with school adjustment (β = 0.472, p < 0.001). The indirect effect was −0.149, with a 95% confidence interval of −0.157 to −0.140, accounting for 32.391% of the total effect. Physical activity moderated both the direct association between bullying victimization and school adjustment (β = 0.055, p < 0.001) and the association between psychological resilience and school adjustment (β = 0.020, p < 0.001). These findings indicate that bullying victimization is negatively associated with school adjustment, both directly and indirectly through its association with psychological resilience. Physical activity may serve as a modest but statistically significant protective factor by attenuating the adverse association between bullying victimization and school adjustment and strengthening the positive association between psychological resilience and school adjustment.
BACKGROUND:Physical exercise is known to promote positive psychological functioning among college students; however, its relationship with meaning in life within naturally occurring friendship dyads remains underexplored. This study examined both actor and partner associations between physical exercise, social support, and meaning in life. METHODS:A cross-sectional dyadic survey was conducted among 415 friendship dyads (830 Chinese college students, aged 17-23 years). Participants completed validated measures of physical exercise, perceived social support, and meaning in life. Intraclass correlations, Pearson correlations, actor-partner interdependence models (APIMs), and an indistinguishable APIM mediation model were applied to assess within-dyad nonindependence, actor and partner effects, and indirect pathways through social support. RESULTS:Intraclass correlations revealed within-dyad similarities in physical exercise, social support, and meaning in life, with ICCs of 0.101, 0.188, and 0.253, respectively. The constrained indistinguishable mediation model demonstrated acceptable fit: χ2(6) = 12.81, p = 0.046; CFI = 0.973; TLI = 0.933; RMSEA = 0.052; SRMR = 0.028. Physical exercise was positively associated with social support at both the actor level (B = 0.150, p < 0.001) and partner level (B = 0.095, p < 0.001). Social support, in turn, was positively linked to meaning in life at both actor (B = 0.174, p < 0.001) and partner levels (B = 0.206, p < 0.001). Direct effects of physical exercise on meaning in life remained significant for both actor (B = 0.055, p = 0.001) and partner pathways (B = 0.067, p < 0.001). Bootstrap analyses confirmed significant total indirect effects for actors (B = 0.046, 95% CI [0.030, 0.063]) and partners (B = 0.047, 95% CI [0.032, 0.065]). CONCLUSIONS:Physical exercise is associated with meaning in life not only via intrapersonal pathways but also through interpersonal pathways within friendship dyads. Social support serves as a key mediating factor in this relationship.
Physical inactivity remains a major public health concern worldwide, including among young adults. Drawing on data from the 2021 China General Social Survey (CGSS), this study examined heterogeneous patterns of informal social contact and their associations with exercise frequency among an analytic sample of young adults aged 18-35 years in China. A total of 1853 respondents were included in the analysis. Latent profile analysis identified four distinct informal social contact profiles: a generally low-contact profile, a relative-oriented and low-neighbor contact profile, a neighbor-oriented profile with approximately average friend contact, and a broadly high-contact profile. Multinomial logistic regression was used to examine associations between exercise frequency, sociodemographic characteristics, and profile membership. The BCH method with Holm-Bonferroni correction was used to compare exercise frequency across profiles. The results showed that rural respondents were more likely to belong to the broadly high-contact profile, whereas respondents who never exercised were more likely to belong to the generally low-contact profile. After correction for multiple BCH comparisons, only the difference between the relative-oriented, low-neighbor contact profile and the neighbor-oriented, average-friend contact profile remained statistically significant, with the former reporting higher exercise frequency. These findings highlight heterogeneity in informal social contact within the analytic sample and suggest that different configurations of everyday contact with relatives, friends, and neighbors are associated with exercise frequency.
PurposeRegulatory Emotional Self-Efficacy (RESE) is defined as an individual’s confidence and self-assessment of his or her ability to regulate emotions, and is inextricably linked to daily life. To overcome the limitations of traditional dimensional analyses in revealing the overall combination of characteristics, the present study used latent profile analysis to explore the latent profile structure of RESE and to analyze its relationship with physical activity level and key demographic characteristics.MethodsUsing latent profile analysis to explore the latent profiles of RESE. R3STEP analysis and multivariate logistic regression were used, respectively, to explore the associations of physical activity and demographic variables with the latent profiles of RESE.ResultsRESE can be categorized into four latent profiles: Low Negative Regulatory Emotional Self-Efficacy (8.9%), Low Positive Regulatory Emotional Self-Efficacy (40.9%), Moderate Regulatory Emotional Self-Efficacy (30.0%), and Proficient Regulatory Emotional Self-Efficacy (20.2%). Follow-up analyses revealed that physical activity and gender were associated with RESE.Conclusion(1) RESE identified four potential profiles in a population of high school students. (2) Gender was a significant predictor of the attribution of latent profiles of RESE. Females were more likely than males to fall into the Low Negative Regulatory Emotional Self-Efficacy group. (3) Physical activity is a significant predictor of RESE profiles. The lower the level of physical activity, the higher the likelihood of being classified into the two low Regulatory Emotional Self-Efficacy groups.
IntroductionThis study aimed to explore the effects of exercise intervention on prosocial behavior in junior high school students and its underlying mechanisms.MethodsUsing convenience cluster sampling, 90 students were selected from two first-grade classes at a secondary school, with 45 assigned to the experimental group and 45 to the control group. The experimental group participated in a 12-week basketball exercise program, consisting of three sessions per week, each accumulating 30 min of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. The control group attended regular physical education classes as scheduled in the curriculum. Psychological scales were administered to assess variable levels before and after the intervention.ResultsAfter the intervention, significant main effects of time and interaction effects between time and group were observed in empathy, interpersonal relationships, and prosocial behavior. A significant main effect of group was also found in prosocial behavior. Moreover, empathy and interpersonal relationships mediated the relationship between exercise intervention and prosocial behavior.ConclusionsExercise intervention can improve empathy, interpersonal relationships, and prosocial behavior among junior high school students. Specifically, basketball exercise yielded significantly greater benefits than conventional physical education. Exercise indirectly promotes prosocial behavior through the separate mediating roles of empathy and interpersonal relationships, which also form a sequential mediation pathway between exercise intervention and prosocial behavior.
Considering the role of school adjustment in the development of adolescent populations, it is particularly essential to find ways to improve the school adjustment of middle school students and to develop further the socialization of adolescents. Based on the 2014-2015 data of the China Education Panel Survey, the effects of physical exercise on adolescents' school adjustment and possible mechanisms were systematically explored. Based on the ordinary least squares method, instrumental variable method, and propensity score matching method, the results of the study showed that physical exercise significantly improved adolescents' school adjustment. The results of the mediation effects test indicated that physical exercise not only enhances adolescents' school adjustment by alleviating negative emotions, but also enhances adolescents' school adjustment by improving prosocial behavior. This study reveals the mechanism of physical exercise and adolescents' school adjustment, and provides reasonable and effective suggestions for better promoting adolescents' school adjustment and formulating related policies.
BACKGROUND:Elderly patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) commonly suffer from anxiety, depression, and impaired health-related quality of life (HRQOL). This review evaluated the effects of mind-body exercises on these outcomes and exercise tolerance in COPD patients aged ≥ 60 years. METHODS:Following PRISMA guidelines, we systematically searched PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science (inception-January 2025) for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing mind-body exercise versus usual care. Outcomes were anxiety, depression, HRQOL (St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire or Chronic Respiratory Questionnaire), and exercise tolerance (6-minute walk test). Meta-analyses used random-effects models, reporting Standardized Mean Differences (SMDs) or Mean Differences (MDs) with 95 % confidence intervals (CIs). Evidence certainty was assessed (GRADE framework). Seventeen RCTs were included. RESULTS:Mind-body exercise reduced anxiety (SMD = -0.59, 95 % CI: -0.84 to -0.34; high certainty) and depression (SMD = -0.34, 95 % CI: -0.54 to -0.14; high certainty). HRQOL improved significantly (SMD = -0.79, 95 % CI: -1.14 to -0.44; low certainty), with exploratory findings showing greater improvement in Southeast Asian patients (SMD = -3.41). Exercise tolerance increased (MD = 44.23 m, 95 % CI: 26.12-62.34), exceeding minimal clinically important differences. Intervention duration for depression was a key moderator, with greater benefits in patients with interventions lasting ≥ 3080 min. CONCLUSION:Mind-body exercise reduces anxiety and depression, improves health-related quality of life, and increases exercise tolerance in elderly patients with COPD. For anxiety and depression, benefits are significantly enhanced with intervention durations ≥ 3080 minutes. Incorporating mind-body exercise into comprehensive COPD management for older adults is recommended.
This study aims to explore the relationship between physical activity and interpersonal distress among high school students and its mechanism of action. Based on triadic reciprocal determinism, social cognitive theory, and the protective factor-protective factor Model, a cross-sectional study was conducted on 2072 high school students using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Version (IPAQ-S), the Regulatory Emotional Self-Efficacy Scale, the Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale, and the Interpersonal Relationship Comprehensive Diagnosis Scale. The results showed that (1) physical activity has a significant adverse predictive effect on interpersonal distress among high school students. (2) Physical activity can not only directly predict interpersonal distress among high school students, but also indirectly predict interpersonal distress through the mediating effect of regulatory emotional self-efficacy. (3) Psychological resilience plays a moderating role in the relationship between emotional regulation self-efficacy, and interpersonal distress. For high school students with low psychological resilience, emotional regulation self-efficacy has a more significant predictive effect on interpersonal distress; however, for high school students with high psychological resilience, the moderating effect is not significant.
To examine the nonlinear effects of adolescent self-control on mental health and investigate the mediating role of school adaptation and the moderating role of physical activity, we conducted psychological measurements on 2077 high school students from eight different schools using a psychological scale. The results revealed a U-shaped relationship between adolescent self-control and their mental health and school adaptation, with school adaptation mediating this relationship. Furthermore, physical activity was identified as a regulator of the indirect effects of self-control on mental health through school adaptation. This suggests that adolescents sometimes need to balance their focus between internal self-control and external adaptation strategies to succeed in school. This balancing act can lead to an overuse of self-control resources, resulting in "excessive adaptation," which negatively impacts their mental health. However, physical activity can help mitigate these negative effects by moderating the relationship between school adaptation and mental health. The study underscores the importance of balancing self-control and school adaptation in adolescents. It recommends that educators incorporate physical activity into routines to help maintain adolescents' mental health.
Objectives: Chronic psychological stress among college students increases sensitivity to negative emotional stimuli. Emotion regulation, a critical coping mechanism, draws upon cognitive resources and may impair subsequent cognitive control. Physical exercise has been proposed as an effective intervention to enhance both emotional and cognitive functioning. This study investigated whether a 12-week structured exercise intervention could modulate emotion regulation outcomes and improve cognitive control in college students experiencing high psychological stress. Methods: Forty-seven college students, identified as highly stressed via the Chinese College Students Psychological Stress Scale, were randomly assigned to either an exercise group (n = 25) or a control group (n = 22). The exercise group participated in supervised rope-jumping sessions three times per week for 40 min, following ACSM guidelines, over 12 weeks. Before and after the intervention, participants completed tasks measuring two emotion regulation strategies—expressive suppression and cognitive reappraisal—and tasks assessing cognitive control. Results: A significant group × time × strategy interaction emerged for subjective emotional valence: following the intervention, the exercise group reported attenuated negative valence under expressive suppression. For subjective arousal, post-intervention ratings decreased under suppression but increased under reappraisal in the exercise group, suggesting strategy-specific modulation by physical activity. Regarding cognitive control, electrophysiological measures revealed that the P3 component showed a significant interaction: the exercise group exhibited enhanced P3 amplitudes in congruent versus incongruent conditions after the intervention. Moreover, P3 interference scores were significantly reduced post-intervention in the exercise group compared to both its pre-intervention baseline and the control group. Conclusions: A 12-week aerobic exercise intervention enhanced emotion regulation outcomes and improved cognitive control under high psychological stress. These findings underscore the utility of physical exercise as a non-pharmacological approach to bolster cognitive–affective resilience in young adults.
The study aimed to explore the bidirectional causal relationship between physical activity and depressive symptoms in older adults using a multi-wave follow-up design, expanding on established evidence of a bidirectional relationship between physical activity and depression in older adults. Drawing on individual-level tracking data from the China Family Panel Studies (2016, 2018, and 2020), the causal relationship was tested using fixed effects and cross-lagged panel models. Results indicated that physical exercise was a significant negative predictor of depression in older adults across both continuous (β=-0.056, p < 0.001) and categorical variables (β=-0.536, p < 0.001). After controlling for unobserved confounders, physical exercise continued to have a significant negative impact on depressive symptoms (β=-0.024, p < 0.05; β=- 0.210, p < 0.05). Cross-lagged analyses revealed that physical exercise significantly influenced depressive symptoms only during the T1→T2 phase (β=-0.073, p < 0.001), while depressive symptoms negatively predicted physical activity in later phases (β=-0.068, p < 0.001; β=-0.082, p < 0.001). This finding underscores that while physical exercise can positively impact depressive symptoms in older adults, it may not be sufficient during public health crises or social emergencies. A holistic approach, incorporating social support and psychological interventions, is essential for more effective prevention and management of depressive symptoms.
School is the primary setting for social activities among adolescents, and the quality of school adjustment has a significant impact on their physical and mental well-being. Research has shown that perceived social support, school belongingness, and physical activity can influence adolescents' school adjustment, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. From March to December 2023, 1167 adolescent students (595 males and 572 females) with an average age of 13.68 +/- 0.88 years old in Shandong Province of China were surveyed with a psychological questionnaire by cluster stratified sampling method and through the construction of PLS-SEM to explore the relationship between perceived social support, school belongingness, and physical activity on school adjustment. The results indicated that perceived social support directly predicts middle school students' school adjustment and indirectly predicts it through the mediating variable of school belongingness. Additionally, it was found that individual levels of physical activity moderate the first half of the mediating path from school belongingness to school adjustment. This finding emphasizes the important roles of perceived social support, school belongingness, and physical activity in facilitating successful school adjustment among adolescent students. Based on this finding, it provides new suggestions for policy-makers in the face of adolescents who can not adjust to school life and have the tendency to drop out.
General self-efficacy is crucial for university students who are about to enter the workplace and society. However, the association between physical activity, a widely recognized and convenient way to promote various psychological qualities, and general self-efficacy or other aspects of self-efficacy is often overlooked. Through psychological measurements of 480 university students, this study found that social comparison orientation and perceived social support jointly moderate the impact of physical activity on general self-efficacy among university students. Specifically, under conditions of high social comparison orientation and high levels of perceived social support, physical activity has a significant predictive effect on individuals' general self-efficacy. These findings suggest that universities and social institutions should pay attention to the importance of physical activity for university students' general self-efficacy. By encouraging their participation in physical activity and providing appropriate social support, they can help them establish positive self-evaluation and confidence to better cope with future challenges and difficulties.
Background Adaptive elements such as learning and interpersonal interactions of high school students need to be developed in the school environment. Thus, school adjustment is an essential developmental task in the academic growth of adolescent students. The present study was guided by the resource conservation theory and the power model of self-control and aimed to investigate the chain-mediated roles of psychological resilience and self-control in the physical activity and school adjustment of high school students. Methods The study utilized whole population sampling and selected 2054 first- and second-year students from eight high schools in four regions of Jiangsu Province (M=16.45 years, SD=0.72 years). The questionnaires included the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-S), Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale (PRS), Self-Control Scale (SCS), and School Adjustment Scale for High School Students. Data were analyzed using SPSS and Process 4.0 macros for mediation modeling. Results The direct and indirect effects of physical activity on high school students' school adjustment were significant, and the indirect effects included three pathways: first, the separate mediating effect of psychological resilience; second, the separate mediating effect of self-control; and third, the chain mediating effect of psychological resilience and self-control. Conclusion The study's results revealed the relationship and mechanism of action of physical activity on high school students' school adjustment, which provides essential theoretical and reference value for improving their school adjustment.
PROPOSE:To review published Physical Activity (PA) on the Mental Health of Children and Adolescents aged 5 to 18 years during COVID-19 pandemic-induced school closures. METHODS:From the database creation to April 2022, 10 databases are retrieved, with 4427 records filtered, 14 included in this research. The research takes Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) evaluation standards. RESULTS:The thesis selects 14 studies from 6 countries, involving 400009 children and adolescents. These studies happened during the lockdown of COVID-19 (from December 2019 to April 2021). During the lockdown of COVID-19, schools were closed, which was considered part of a more extensive lockdown. Schools were closed for 1 to 4 weeks. There were 10 high quality studies (71.4%) and 4 medium quality studies (28.6%). 4 studies report that the pandemic reduces the time of PA but increases the time of watching screen and sitting. 10 studies (71.4%) identify that PA is positive for the mental health, because it helps reduce mental symptoms to a certain extent, especially anxiety, depression, and emotional disorders. 5 studies show that PA may not improve the mental health of children and adolescents under 12 during the pandemic. 4 studies indicate that the influence of PA on mental health of children and adolescents is determined by the amount of activity, including the extent, intensity, frequency, and duration, etc. CONCLUSIONS:In this narrative synthesis of reports from the class suspension period, reports that PA has a improve on the mental health of children and adolescents to a certain extent. it is found that PA may be helpful in reducing mental health symptoms of children and adolescents who are influenced by class suspension because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, stakeholders of the mental health of children and adolescents around the world should recommend PA because it is a practicable and beneficial way for long-term mental support.
