The microstructural evolution, including preferred orientation and surface morphology, of ZnO films deposited by rf magnetron sputtering was investigated with increasing film thickness. Preferred orientation of the ZnO films changed from (0002) → (1011) → (1120) and fine and dense columnar grains also changed to large elongated grains with increasing thickness. Such selective texture growth was explained with an effect of highly energetic species bombardment on the growing film surface. The relationship between preferred orientation change and microstructural evolution was also discussed.
An electrophoretic display (EPD) cell with a triple-layered microcavity structure was fabricated using a convenient dry film resist. The inherent structural advantage arising from the function of the middle channel layer as a background colored state enabled the EPD to operate with two different-colored states by using a single type of electronic-ink particles, thereby eliminating the possible agglomeration of oppositely charged ink particles and supporting the potential application of the proposed structure to color the electronic paper. The preliminary operation of this new EPD structure was demonstrated as white and blue display states on a rigid glass exhibiting a contrast ratio of 1.5 : 1 with saturation voltages of + 30 and -30 V, respectively. Successful demonstrations on both the indium-tin-oxide-patterned glass and flexible polyethylene substrates are also provided.
The growth and properties of undoped and Mn-doped ZnGa2O4 thin-film phosphors on (100) MgO and glass substrates using pulsed laser ablation were investigated. Blue-white and green emission were observed for as-deposited undoped and Mn-doped films, respectively. Luminescent properties as well as crystallinity were considerably affected by processing conditions and film stoichiometry. Films with enhanced luminescent characteristics were obtained on single crystal substrates without post-annealing.
AbstractWe have prepared ZnO TFT driving color AMEPD using nano‐scale electrophoretic ink particles made by invented modified emulsion process. New concept of color filter using silver halide technology — similar with photographic technology‐which is suitable for reflective EPD application was adapted to develop color filters. To get rid of align process for color filters and TFT arrays, transparent ZnO TFT with low temperature process was fabricated. In case of monochrome EPD, the contrast ratio was 23:1 at operating voltage of ± 10V. Zone color prototype AMEPD was fabricated with silver halide color filter.
In this paper, we describe new approach of ink particle fabrication method for electrophoretic display(EPD) with low voltage and rapid response time. Nano-size ink particles which fabricated using non-aqueous base modified emulsion process and micron-scale particles' by non-solvent particle fabrication process are discussed. Finally, specially designed particles and panel structure fabricated considering the interactions between particle/particle, particle/media or particle/electrode dramatically reduce the driving voltages to +/- 10V and improve the response time of less than 100msec for EPD using dielectric fluid as a medium. In case of EPD adapting micron-sized electrophoretic particles and a medium of air, the saturation voltage could be reduced to +/- 40V without scarification of electrophoretic mobility of the particles.
In this study, we have investigated microencapsulation of magenta, yellow, and cyan color polymer balls with white pigment for multi-color electrophoretic display implementation. The charged color pigments have been prepared by physical coating of magenta, yellow, and cyan with functionalized polymers, then surface charging with charge control agent. These color balls with white pigment were microencapsulated in suspending fluid through in-situ polymerization.
