The aim of this research is to add various quantities of organic selenium with or without α-tocopherol to support growth and reduce oxidative stress. A total of 168 fingerlings of common carp Cyprinus carpio with an average weight of 31±2 g/fish were distributed in 24 glass aquariums. Fish were fed on eight different experimental diets, including a control, and a diet that contains 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8 mg/kg of organic selenium (2nd, 3rd and 4th diets) respectively. The fifth, sixth and seventh diets contained the same amounts of organic selenium with 300 mg/kg of α-tocopherol, but only α-tocopherol was added to the eighth diets. The results of a statistical analysis found that the use of organic selenium with α-tocopherol enhanced the values of blood parameters included Hb and PCV which reached 10.85 gm/100 ml, 33.03% respectively; biochemical included TP, GLU and GPx which reached 4.13 g/100 ml, 2.08 mg/100 ml and 1.90 pg/ml respectively, while the control diets have 9.35, 27.80, 3.67, 84.50 and 1.34 respectively i.e., the eighth treatment (0.8 organic selenium with Vitamin E) representing the best treatments.
The objective of this study is to improve the nutritional value of Culban Vicia peregrina using four different methods: soaking in water for 12 hours, cooking for 40 minutes, roasting for 15 minutes, and germination for 7 days to reduce the effects of anti-nutritional. For 56 days, soybean meal was utilized to replace the grains treated by the abovementioned procedures by 40% ( T3, T5 T7 and T9) and 20% (T4, T6 and T8) in the diets for common carp Cyprinus carpio L., as well as a control diet comprising 30% of soybean meal (T1). The results of the statistical analysis showed the superiority of the fed fish the T7 significantly (P≤ 0.05) in the criteria of TLW,TG and DWG. The fed fish outperformed the T4, T5 and T6 significantly in the criteria of RGR and SGR compared to the control diet(T1). The best FCR and FER were obtained in the T6 and T7, which differed significantly from the T1. With the exception of treatments T2, T7, and T9, the fed fish performed significantly better than all other treatments in the PPV criterion. It can be concluded in present study the substituting culban seeds heated or biologically(germination technique) processed could replace up to 40% of the soybean meal.
This study conducted to find the effect of partial replacement of soybean meal by Spirulina Arthospira platensis on some blood picture and biochemical criteria in common carp Cyprinus carpio. Fish were fed on five experimental diets contained spirulina with ratio 1.45%, 2.90%, 3.54% and 6.10% of the total diet as well as control ( without spirulina) for 56 days . Results of the statistical analysis showed a significant decrease (p≤ 0.05) in the concentration of hemoglobin in treated fish fed on spirulina diets, meanwhile a significantly differences (p≤0.05) for stress index and the albumin criteria for fish fed at fifth diet comparing with control diet. The aspartate amino transferase for fish fed on the control diet increased significantly (p≤ 0.05) compared for other experimental diets. The results of the current study show that replacing the soybean meal with spirulina by 11.8 % (3.54 of the total diet) improved the studied criteria compared to the control diet.
The people in the south of Iraq in the coastal region of the Arabian Gulf, especially in the Basra government, are suffering from waves of high humidity throughout the year, average annual humidity of 60.6 %. The increment of salinity of the Shatt-Al-Arab river, the main source of the drinking water in this city, effected by the gulf water caused a lack of drinking water. What made matters worse is the frequent power outages caused by many reasons, one of these reasons that Basra considers one of the highest temperature cities in the world. For that, it is required to design an efficient device to harvest the water from the air to reduce the humidity and consider as a source for drinking water, taking into consideration it’s adopting a renewable source of energy. This article is presenting a low cost, portable, power-efficient, multi-purpose device that able to harvest water from the air efficiently. The results show a promising prototype that able to reduce significantly the relative humidity (RH), produce water, and consumed low power, with overall efficiency 40%-60%.
The results indicated that the kinds of legume seeds and storage period affect to the activity of khapra beetle which represented in the population density of the insects and loss weight of infested seeds and growth rate of insect. The results indicated that the chick pea, Caw pea and green gram had more preferred for insect feeding than another legume seeds as lentil, broad bean, pea and bean, and had a high general mean for insect numbers was 245.67 insect for chick pea and followed caw pea seeds 188.00 insect and green gram seeds 140.89 insect. The general mean of insect numbers were increased with increasing storage period which were 26.05, 72.57 and 171.57 insect for storage period of 3, 6 and 9 moths respectively. According to other characteristics as loss weight, loss percentage of weight and growth rate were higher on the chick pea from another kinds. These characters that arranged between zero on the broad bean seeds and 15.67 gm., 62.68 % and 3.51 individual / month of the chick pea seeds.
Study was planed to compare different types of probiotics in two level used in Cyprinus carpio L. fish ratios for studying it's effect on growth and food utilization criteria. A same ration was fed for 84 days to nine groups (15 fish/each) with initial weight 22.44 ± 2 gm/fish and the intact ration was fed to the 1st fish group as a control. The biomin imbo probiotic was added 1and 2 gm/1kg ration for the 2nd and 3rd fish group. 0.5 and 1 gm of the poultry star®me per 1kg ration the 4th and 5th fish group. The ration of the 6th and the 7th fish group included 6 gm and 8 gm of the Iraqi probiotics. 3 and 5 gm of the commericial dry yeast was added to the 8th and 9th fish group ration respectively. All the probiotic supported ration fish groups gave special poultry star®me on level added 0.5 gm/1kgsignificanthigher (p<0.05) body weight gain, growth rate, relative growth rate, specific growth rate, feed conversion ratio, feed efficiency ratio, protein efficiency ratio and protein productive value than the control fish group.
This study was conducted on the farm of Agric. and Forestry College, Mosul Univ. for three seasons (2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-2008) to compare grain yield and it,s components of eight barley genotypes namely (Local black, Rehan, Jazeera (1), native white, Sameer and strains No.11, 21, 31) using RCBD with three replicates for evaluating the best one or more genotypes suitable under northern Iraqi condition. The result showed that the strain No.11gave higher number of spike/m2 for the three seasons. Significant increasing was detected in the number of grain/spike of each of jazeera (1) and strain No.31. The strains No. (21, 31) had the highest grain and straw yield and harvest index during each season and the cumulative of all seasons.
The present study was designed for highlighting and focusing on the cytotoxic activity of a new class of antimetabolites both on human cell lines, namely liver carcinoma cell line (Hepg2), lung carcinoma cell line (H460), breast carcinoma cell line (MCF7), brain carcinoma cell line (U251), and animal cell line EAC (Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cells). The results revealed that some of these modified deazapyrimidine thioglycosides have significant cytotoxic activity against EAC cells with growth inhibition percentage ranged between 80% to 90%. The possible inhibitory mechanism of the pyridine thioglycosides was explored by studying the cell cycle perturbation of thioglycosides against human cell lines (in vitro) as well as the most suitable time for maximum compound cytotoxic activity after 6, 18, and 24 h of incubation. To confirm the cytotoxic activity of these compounds, they have been tested for their apoptotic and antiproliferative activity in vivo against solid Ehrlich tumours using five groups of Swiss albino mice for 37 days from inoculation and three treatments, 250, 500 and 1,000 μg/kg body weight. There was signifi cant reduction in Ehrlich tumour size in case of the 500 and 1,000 μg/kg body weight group but mild significant tumour reduction in the 250 μg/kg body weight group. Histograms of DNA per cell for each treatment group indicated that there was a dose-dependent increase in the preG1 phase with a corresponding complete arrest of cells from entering the G 2 /M phase compared to the untreated EAC group. In conclusion, pyridine thioglycosides have proven good cytotoxic effects against EAC cells and also significant cytotoxic activity against the four tested human cell lines. Flow cytometric DNA ploidy analysis of pyridine thioglcyosides against the Hepg2 and U251 cell lines revealed that the postulated mechanism of action of pyridine thioglcyosides is cell cycle arrest in the S phase. This is similar to antimetabolites and cell cycle arrest in the G 2 /M phase (M phase) in the same way as microtubule inhibitors like pyridine thioglycosides are cell-cycle-specific in the S phase and the M phase (in case of human cell lines) and have apoptotic effects (in case of animal cell line).
