Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) The GPS campaigns of the between 1995 and 1998 provide a valuable data set which is used to link Antarctica with the ITRF (International Terrestrial Reference Frame), and to gain the first detailed insights into the tectonic behaviour of the Antarctic plate. The data analysis is based on seven individual solutions with four different software packages (Bernese, GAMIT/GLOBK, GIPSY/OASIS II, GEONAP), and provides the possibility to study the existing software noise. The combined solution yields an accuracy of 1 cm for the horizontal and 2 cm for the vertical coordinate components within ITRF96. Based on repeated observations during a total time span of three years, it is possible to determine detailed regional deformations in the area of the Antarctic Peninsula and to obtain an estimate for the rotation vector of the whole Antarctic plate. The main findings of a very comprehensive project of, in total, seven working groups are summarized and presented for the first time. The main emphasis is on the geodetic aspects of the project, i.e. the analysis of the same data set with different software packages, and on the final results from repeated observations, namely station coordinates and horizontal velocities in ITRF96.

Die Durchfuhrung wissenschaftlicher Schiffsexpeditionen in die Antarktissetzt eine umfangreiche organisatorische und logistische Planung voraus.Neben den unmittelbaren Fragen zum Umweltschutz in der Antarktisbedarf es insbesondere einer detaillierten Koordination fur die Besucheund Aufenthalte auf auslandischen Forschungsstationen. Die Einbindungvon GAP98 in die internationale SCAR GPS-Kampagne erfolgte mitUnterstutzung der SCAR Working Group on Geodesy and GeographicInformation (WG-GGI).Im Verlauf der GAP98-Expedition wurde im Gebiet der AntarktischenHalbinsel und des Scotia Meeres ein Netz von 17 geodatischenReferenzpunkten mit GPS vermessen. Daruber hinaus erfolgte dieBestimmung von Hohenbezugen zu vorhandenen Gezeitenpegeln, aufausgewahlten Stationen wurden neue Pegel installiert. Funf Stationenwurden zusatzlich mit Seismometern ausgerustet.Der Transport der Beobachter und der umfangreichen Ausrustung zu denStationen ist nur mit einem Schiff moglich. Fur die GPS-Kampagne GAP98wurde das russische Forschungsschiff RV Akademik Boris Petrov vomVernadsky Institut in Moskau eingesetzt.Der Beitrag beschreibt die Fahrtroute der RV Akademik Boris Petrovwahrend der GPS-Kampagne GAP98 auf ihrer Reise 29A. Die marin-geowissenschaftlichen Arbeiten, die im Rahmen der Gesamtexpedition inZusammenarbeit mit dem Vernadsky Institut durchgefuhrt wurden undderen Ergebnisse zur Interpretation geodynamischer Vorgange in derRegion der Antarktischen Halbinsel genutzt werden sollen, werden kurzzusammengefasst.

During the XXIII Meeting of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) held in Rome in 1994 the Working Group on Geodesy and Geographic Information (SCAR WG-GGI) established a working program for the next two years. It was decided that SCAR Epoch GPS Campaigns should be organized as a continuation of former Epoch Campaigns.
