A 2-year-old Arabian filly was referred for evaluation of a serosanguineous vaginal discharge. Palpation per rectum revealed a large, fluid-filled uterus and a uterine mass. The filly developed septic metritis and secondary laminitis as a result of torsion and necrosis of a pedunculated uterine mass. Ovariohysterectomy was performed. The entire cervix was removed with the uterus. Gross examination of the excised uterus revealed 3 intraluminal masses. Histologic evaluation identified the tumors as fibroleiomyoma. The filly recovered completely, and there was no recurrence of the tumor.
The medical records of 23 histopathologically confirmed cases of canine hemangiopericytoma were reviewed. Ninety-one percent (21/23) of the dogs were 7 years old or older, and 70% (16/23) were female. Seventy-four percent (20/27) of the tumors developed on the extremities. Recurrence rates were 31% (5/16) with surgical excision only, and 60% (3/5) with surgical excision combined with radiotherapy. Tumor recurrence did not appear to be related to mitotic index. Metastasis was suspected in one of the dogs, but was not confirmed.
A solution consisting of ascorbate phosphate, citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium phosphate, and dextrose was developed to extend the shelf life of canine blood stored for transfusion. The 24-hour poststorage viability remained above 70% for 6 weeks of storage at 4 C. The concentration of 2,3 diphosphoglycerate remained constant for 3 weeks, then declined slowly. After 6 weeks of storage, the 2,3 diphosphoglycerate content was still sufficiently high to allow adequate dissociation of oxygen from oxyhemoglobin in vivo. It was concluded that blood stored up to 6 weeks in this solution would be safe to use for transfusion.
Methylene Blue injected into rabbits resulted in increased glutamate, reduced glutathione and pyrrolid-2-one-5-carboxylate in erythrocytes. The increase in reduced glutathione was probably due to increased glutamate changing the feedback control of glutathione on gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase.

The relative rates for the different species were similar to those reported previously, but the absolute values were considerably higher.3.3. This difference was attributed to the specificity of t-butyl hydroperoxide for GSH.
Oxygen dissociation curve and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (DPG) contents in red blood cells (RBC) were determined in canine blood stored in acid citrate dextrose (ACD) and citrate phosphate dextrose (CPD) solutions. The oxygen-unloading ability decreased, as shown by the left shift of oxygen dissociation curve during storage, and the shift correlated with decreasing DPG but not decreasing ATP concentrations. After 2 weeks of storage in ACD solution, oxygen dissociation curves were shifted significantly to the left. For blood stored in CPD solution, 4 weeks was required before the shift was significant. It was concluded that canine blood collected and stored in CPD solution is more efficient than that stored in ACD solution in delivering oxygen to the tissues.
