Le notitiae traditionum del monastero agostiniano di S. Michele all’Adige presentate in questo contributo rivestono notevole importanza per più aspetti. In primo luogo la documentazione di S. Michele attenua in modo significativo l’esiguità del materiale documentario trentino anteriore al 1200. In secondo luogo, la fonte in questione fornisce nuove indicazioni sulla diffusione verso sud del sistema delle notitiae traditionum di impronta bavaro-austriaca. In terzo luogo essa compensa la perdita dell’archivio del casato dei fondatori — i conti di Appiano —, del quale solo frammenti relativi al ramo cadetto degli Ultimo/Ulten sono passati negli archivi dei conti di Tirolo e dei vescovi di Bressanone.
