This paper explores the effects of macroeconomic factors (household debt, income level, unemployment, inflation, and imprisonment) on property crime rates in Malaysia, driven by the potential for affected individuals to break the law for financial survival. Data spanning the period of 1999 to 2022 was obtained and analyzed using the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) approach, revealing the significant positive influence of debt, income inequality, unemployment, and inflation on local property crime. In contrast, a higher number of prisoners does not significantly increase property crime rates, suggesting that imprisonment may not be an effective preventive measure. These insights are useful for controlling property-related offenses in developing countries that are also facing rising costs of living, household debt, unemployment, and income stagnation.
The purpose of this study is to examine the consumer adoption of mobile augmented reality (AR) in the tourism industry in Malaysia. Drawing on the extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), interactivity, vividness, and information content factors are examined in relation to perceived usefulness (PU). and perceived ease of use (PEOU). Subsequently, both PU and PEOU are hypothesised towards customer engagement (CE), behavioural intention to use (BIU) and usage behaviour (UB). The study consists of 500 samples from consumers who have experienced the usage of mobile AR in the tourism industry in Malaysia. Using a quantitative approach, structural equation modeling (SEM) was applied to analyse the collected data. The findings revealed that interactivity, vividness, and information content have positive effects on the PU and PEOU. PU and PEOU have positive effects on the CE, BIU, and UB. In theoretical contributions, the study contributes to the extension of TAM by adding interactivity, vividness, and information content as antecedents to PU and PEOU. This research also validated CE as the new dimension for consumer behavioural engagement that affects BIU and UB in the extended TAM. In practical contributions, the findings will assist tourism providers in strategic marketing planning and formulation to enhance mobile AR.

Relationship quality is examined as antecedents to brand image and brand loyalty. Design/methodology/approach Data are obtained through survey questionnaire from 410 undergraduate and postgraduate students from six HEIs in Malaysia. Structural equation modelling was applied for data analysis. Findings The findings of this study reveal that social interaction, sharing of information, surveillance and information quantity have positive effect on relationship quality. Relationship quality has significant positive influence on brand image and brand loyalty, respectively. Originality/value The study contributes to the extension of social exchange theory through the development of an integrative framework of social media engagement (exchange) needed for improving relationship quality (relational responses) and brand performance (behavioural outcomes) in the HEM.
Ageing population is a global phenomenon that is mainly associated with reduced mortality rates, persistent decline in fertility rates and increased life expectancy. Of the various indicators of an ageing population, demographic changes have resulted in increasing numbers and proportions of those aged 60 years and above compared to the overall nation’s population. This study investigated the impact of an ageing population and healthcare expenditure on labour force participation rate in Developing-8 (D-8) countries using panel Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method and Pooled Mean Group (PMG) estimator from 2000 to 2017. The empirical findings revealed that the ageing population significantly and positively affect the labour force participation rate in D-8 countries but did not affect healthcare expenditure. Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares and (FMOLS) and DOLS tests were employed to confirm the impact of an ageing population on labour force participation rate, whereas the latter was impeded by healthcare expenditure as reflected in its significant negative impact. These findings demonstrate the diverse impact of an ageing population and healthcare expenditure on labour force participation in D-8 countries. Therefore, policy revisions are needed to prevent the continuous rise in healthcare expenditure given the increasing ageing population across D-8 countries.
Investing in retirement planning is vital to prepare for life after the retirement period when there is no active income. This is because relying solely on saving or pension fund is not enough to sustain future retirement period due to an increment of life expectancy, inflation, and living costs. This paper aims to help Generation Y and parties involved understand the behavioral trait and psychological biases taking a role in influencing their intention to invest for retirement in Malaysia. The study also helps Generation Y to recognize the importance of early retirement preparation. The paper is written according to the knowledge of financial planning, retirement planning, and investment planning. 500 survey questionnaires were distributed both physically and online, and only 240 responses collected. After data pre-screening, 232 responses were valid to use for further analysis. Findings revealed that subjective norms, attitude, pension knowledge, and trust towards online financial service have a positive impact on the intention of Generation Y to actively invest for retirement. Subjective norm was the most important factor, whereas trust was the least important factor. Overall, an individual's behavioral traits play a huge role in positively influencing Generation Y's intention to invest in Malaysia's retirement fund. Generalizations of these findings are expectedly limited Gen Y in Klang Valley; it does limit the generalizability of the results for all people in Malaysia. Despite limitations, the results can provide some theoretically and practically implications whereby financial companies and the policymaker should focus on promoting the investment in retirement planning for all people in Malaysia but not limited to Gen Y.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of economic uncertainty on MNC investment in Malaysia from 2009 to 2019 by employing an ARDL method. The results revealed that Economic Policy Uncertainty (EPU) has a positive association with the capital expenditures of Nestle, British American Tobacco, and Public Bank in the long run. In a similar period, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is positively significant with the capital expenditures of British America Tobacco and Heineken. However, inflation is negatively related to the capital expenditures of British America Tobacco and Heineken. Additionally, the exchange rate has a significant and negative relationship with the capital expenditures of Nestle and Petronas, while the ECT value is negative and significant in the short run, hence confirming that co-integration exists. In view of this, it is imperative that the government plays a prerogative role to support MNC operations, as MNCs foster the developing countries' economic development through facilitating full employment. This study sets to enhance the personal knowledge of those with a strong interest in the Malaysian financial market. As long as MNCs believe that the Malaysian market has the potential to grow, they will continue to invest for the benefit of the country.
The advancement of digital technologies such as electronic devices, information systems, mobile or internet technologies, etc., which is presently known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, generates real opportunities for organizations to focus their activities on core competencies and achievable goals. It was inevitable for human resource management (HRM) to adopt such an advancement that drastically influenced businesses’ work and management. Tax revenue is one of important government’s sources of revenue and the taxation system vary across countries. Malaysia went through the paradigm shift by employing the self-assessment system (SAS) on 2001 where responsibility of calculating taxes had shifted successfully from the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) to taxpayers. Since then, the voluntary tax compliance through SAS in Malaysia has been paying a greater role in meeting the statutory tax obligations and collection, effectively and efficiently. The study is aimed to examine the ethical, moral, religious and cultural background considerations on individual voluntary tax compliance in Malaysia by engaging quantitative research approach by utilising 200 valid questionnaire from respondents who are the individual taxpayer in Malaysia. Multiple regression analysis conducted to identify the effect of ethicality, morality, religiosity and cultural background on the individual voluntary tax compliance in Malaysia. Findings shows that all the variables have significant positive relationship, however the multiple regression analysis proven that ethicality and religiosity have strong significant effect on the individual tax compliance behaviour and on the other hand, morality and cultural background doesn’t have significant effect on individual tax compliance behaviour.

Purpose The efficiency of unit trust (UT) funds from quite number of contexts across the globe has been highlighted in previous literature. Yet, there is dearth of research that empirically investigates the factors that influence the selection of UT funds by retailers, particularly in the Malaysian setting. This paper aims to narrow this research gap, whereby perception of past performance, perception of funds’ commitment to Shari’ah compliance, perception of funds’ size and perception of risk tolerance are hypothesized to exert statistically significant influences on the selection of UT funds by retail investors in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach The empirical study uses a quantitative research approach whereby survey data have been sampled from 140 retail investors from around Malaysia, using simple random sampling technique. Data analysis has been carried out using multiple regression analysis employing SPSS version 20.0. Findings The empirical research finds that perceptions of fund size and Shari’ah compliance significantly influence the selection of UT among retail investors in Malaysia. However, there were no enough evidences to support the claims that perceptions of past performance and of risk tolerance influence the selection of UT among Malaysian retail investors. Research limitations/implications This research is cross-sectional and uses data from Malaysia only. Practical implications The findings from this research will have enormous implications for policymakers in the accounting and finance sectors of government and private financial institutions and for individual professional Malaysian investors. In particular, investors in Malaysia and potential investors abroad may be enlightened by the findings of this research. Again, Islamic financial institutions may use the findings to boost their performance improvement interventions, thus, having clear evidence of the actual factors that influence retailers in the Malaysian setting. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this research is among the pioneering research works that empirically explores the factors that influence Malaysian retailers to invest in UT funds. This research is expected to stimulate further research in this novel area.
The aim of this study is to examine relationship value and relationship quality, and its effect on customer loyalty in the context of relationship marketing. Four key relationship value variables of economic value, service value, relational value and social value are examined in this study. The study focuses on the Malaysian telecommunication industry and based on the business-to-customer environment. The structural equation modelling technique is used to empirically test the proposed hypotheses using a sample of 350 customers collected by a questionnaire survey. The results showed that three relationship value variables of economic value, service value, and social value have significantly influenced relationship quality. Customer loyalty is significantly affected by relationship quality. There is no significant effect of relational value and relationship quality. The contribution of this paper is twofold. From a theoretical perspective, the social exchange theory is used to explain and conceptualize relationship marketing paradigms. It offers both a conceptual foundation and empirical-based evaluation of customer loyalty through the context of relationship value and relationship quality. The relationship value dimensions of economic value, service value, and social value is the antecedent to relationship quality, which lead to customer loyalty. In the practical perspective, the findings proposed that the telecommunication service providers should focus on relationship value through providing better value for money packages, innovation of services and improve social interaction with customers to build stronger relationship quality and achieve customer loyalty.
