Malaysia’s agriculture sector is witnessing a high growth rate and an increasing involvement of entrepreneurs following the high returns and minimal production costs. This bibliometric analysis employs the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) based on Sustainable Development Goal or SDG 2 to determine how entrepreneurial education impacts self-efficacy, attitude, and intention. It reflects on past entrepreneurial intention research in agriculture, including mushroom production, by explaining psychological and contextual factors of how and why people decide to start a business. Scopus is a database employed to retrieve papers on entrepreneurship intention published from 1982 to February 2025. The search word “entrepreneurship intention” is utilised for extracting associated works in any language. Results from the analysis show a rise in academic interest toward entrepreneurial intention studies since 2013, noting its relevance across industries. Given that only nine or 0.83
Objective: This study examines worldwide trends and prospects in income generation for sustainable communities. This study aligned with achieving SDG 11, which focuses on sustainable cities and communities. Theoretical Framework: This research examines the global trends and prospects of income-generating activities to enhance community living standards. Method: This bibliometric study used the Scopus science database to analyze documents titled “fraud detection.” It encompassed all publications from 1951 to August 2024 in the Scopus database, and the data was analyzed using bibliomegika. This study included 291 publications from the Scopus database. Results and Discussion: The findings indicate that research involvement in income generation has evolved from 1951 to 2024, reflecting an increasing trend in research from universities around the globe. This observation highlights the importance of researching income generation for sustainable communities to improve living standards. Research Implications: Based on the research findings, the researcher will examine global trends and prospects in income-generation activities. Researchers can also strengthen income-generation activities and programs by connecting universities. Originality/Value: The rich insights derived set the stage for developing more effective sustainable community practices through the income generation program.
Urban Green Space (UGS) is a part of urban modern cities living. The significance of the UGS has been outlined in Sustainable Development Goals 11 and 15. Nevertheless, the economic benefits of UGS are often overlooked due to a lack of understanding of their monetary value. This study estimates the economic value of Bukit Kiara Federal Park using the hedonic pricing model. The estimation was conducted by regressing the prices of 599 properties surrounding the park. The change in house pricing could estimate the marginal implicit price which represented the economic value of the park due to the change in its distance to the park (environmental attribute). The results show that reducing the distance by 100 meters increases the house price between RM1,800 and RM54,000 indicating the economic value of Bukit Kiara Federal Park. The study proved that the existence of environmental attributes, in this case, the proximity of a park, influences the house price in the vicinity. Recognizing these economic values will support the justification for developing and maintaining parks which may provide long-term benefits to the community and the environment.
The mushroom industry in Malaysia is experiencing significant growth due to its high return value and low production costs. The Malaysian government has implemented initiatives to encourage entrepreneurial activities. However, the effectiveness of these initiatives in influencing entrepreneurial intention remains to be determined. This study investigates the relationship between entrepreneurial intention in the Malaysian mushroom industry and the moderating effect of government support, drawing insights from the interplay between entrepreneurial self-efficacy, intention, and external support mechanisms. Numerous factors influence entrepreneurship intentions in the mushroom industry. Entrepreneurial self-efficacy plays a crucial role in shaping entrepreneurial intentions and behaviors, and individuals with high self-efficacy are more likely to perceive themselves as capable of successfully starting and running a new business. Government support can provide funding, tax advantages, subsidies, skills development, and advice services and create enabling environments for entrepreneurial efforts. The literature on government support and its impact on entrepreneurship intention reveals gaps that need further exploration. The theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) offers a comprehensive framework for understanding how entrepreneurship education influences self-efficacy, attitudes, and intentions. This study examines the capacity of government assistance to impact entrepreneurial intention in the Malaysian mushroom business, providing vital knowledge on how to promote a more robust environment for sustainable mushroom production. Additionally, this research aims to bridge the gap by investigating how government support moderates the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and intention in the Malaysian mushroom industry, offering valuable conceptual insights to policymakers for fostering a sustainable mushroom production sector.
Enjoyed by millions of people of all ages and backgrounds around the world, recreational fishing is a popular activity that has the potential to provide food, social, environmental, and economic benefits. However, if it is poorly managed, it may negatively affect aquatic ecosystems. This study aims to review current research themes addressed by peer-reviewed papers on recreational fishing in Malaysia. A systematic search addressing recreational fishing in Malaysia was performed through web-based scientific search engines to provide adequate evidence. The downloaded data included authors’ names, affiliates, titles, abstracts, keywords, publication year, article types, article languages, and other citation data. By conducting a systematic analysis, results show that all articles address socioeconomics, targeted species, catch-and-release procedures, post-release survival, and management. Despite growing concern in developed countries about the potential economic, social, and environmental benefits of recreational fishing, the benefits of recreational fishing in Malaysia have not been well explored. There is a lack of characterisation, highlighting, and addressing knowledge gaps.
In numerous countries, recreational fishing is a favored leisure activity. Recreational anglers employ conventional fishing methods, including pole-and-line, nets, and traps, in salt and fresh water. In Malaysia, the recreational fishing sector engages around 2.2 million individuals, with nearly half of this population participating in oceanic recreational fishing activities. Meanwhile, recreational fishing activities in Malaysia are unregulated. This means that neither a license nor a permit is required to carry out such activities, in addition to the lack of guidelines and rules surrounding the industry. Considering its open-access nature, there is no limit to how much one can fish. This may lead to overfishing and the subsequent collapse of certain fish species. As a result, this study aims to determine fishers’ willingness to pay and awareness of conservation and rehabilitation for recreational fishing. We distributed a face-to-face survey to 210 recreational fishermen in Kuala Terengganu. However, only 200 questionnaires were available for analysis. Using a contingent valuation method (CVM), recreation fishers are only willing to pay RM10 for conservation, and most of the fishers are aware of environmental conservation and the rules and regulations of recreational fishing. The findings of this research will provide insightful information for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to decide whether it is necessary to establish a license for recreational fishing in the future, which together will help to achieve SDG Goal 14 and avoid overfishing.
Malaysia is located in the north of the equator and composed of two regions which are peninsular Malaysia and east Malaysia. The country is characterized by southwest monsoon which is the drier weather that start from late May to September and northwest monsoon that start from November to March. The Northwest monsoon comes with heavy rains in Peninsular Malaysia, and it usually leads to floods. Floods can have a lot of negative socio-economic impacts on the country such as loss of livelihood and a decrease in purchasing power and production, which subsequently affect the country’s economic growth and development. The objective of this study is to investigate the economic impact of monsoon floods on the household income in Malaysia and across its states. The data used in this study were obtained from the Department of Statistics Malaysia and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia. The study period covered by the study is from 2016 to 2021. The method used in this study is the panel data regression analysis, which includes the pooled OLS, fixed effect, random effect, and robust model. The result reveals that monsoon flood has a negative impact on household income both at aggregate and disaggregate levels. At Malaysia’s level, the number of floods shows a negative impact on household income. While at the state level, the result shows that some of the states such as Kedah, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Terengganu and Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur are significantly negatively affected. Meanwhile, the states of Johor, Melaka, Pulau Pinang and Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan, are not negatively affected. As such, it is recommended that the responsible authority, such as the government and policymakers should enhance their monsoon flood preparedness and mitigation programs.
There is growing effort by Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) to increase renewable energy in their energy mix in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions (CO 2 ) associated with fossil fuel energy consumption. Biomass energy is one of the renewable energy sources that has the potential to help mitigate carbon dioxide emissions in the ASEAN region considering its abundance and the current rise in its consumption. This study aims to empirically investigate whether the growing consumption of biomass energy contributes to lowering CO 2 emissions in the region. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of biomass energy use on CO 2 emission in ASEAN region over the 1990–2020 period. To achieve this objective, panel fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) was employed and the estimated result revealed that biomass energy use marginally decreases CO 2 emission in the region. This finding implies that increasing and improving supply of clean biomass energy in the region’s energy mix can help to mitigate CO 2 emission by significant portion. Consequently, several policy recommendations were suggested, which include advancing the use of technology to increase and improve biomass energy supply to various sectors of the region’s economy to substitute significant portion of conventional fuel in productive activities.
Foot and mouth disease is vital in Malaysia with increasing yearly cases. Quantitative information about the impact of the disease on the cattle in the country, however, is scarce. This study quantitatively assesses the direct economic impacts of foot and mouth disease outbreaks on cattle production in Peninsular Malaysia. The impacts were assessed based on the data obtained from case outbreaks of cattle in 2017 and 2018. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered to 349 cattle farmers in six states of Peninsular Malaysia from April to October 2018. Collected data were analyzed using a t-test (i.e., to compare between gender within the age of breed) and one-way ANOVA (i.e., to compare between breeds and between ages within the breed). Results demonstrate that the breed of Limousine, Charolaise and Kedah-Kelantan have been proven affected due to the FMD outbreak. The economic losses of foot and mouth disease outbreaks due to mortality and weight loss reached the figure of MYR390.24 per herd. To reduce the impact of the loss of cattle production and achieve Malaysia food security target, it is vital for the government to surveillance and eradicate the FMD outbreak.
The study examines Malaysian airline passengers' travel behaviour and perceptions during the endemic Covid-19 after Malaysia re-opened the border. People are free to do an activity, especially travelling by aeroplane. Data were collected through an online platform in 2023. 390 data were obtained and used for the analysis. Findings reveal that 86.15% of Malaysian have travelled by aeroplane since the endemic, and 14.10% have travelled more than five times. 54.44% strongly agree they will avoid travelling with aircraft because of a few personal issues. In addition, results revealed a significant change in passengers' behaviour and perception when travelling after the hit of Covid-19 worldwide.
Capability development can be defined as creating new competencies or enhancing current ones using available resources. This research investigates mediating effects of capability development (opportunity, innovation, and knowledge sharing) in influencing the relationship between social capital (structural, relational, and cognitive) and the success of community development projects in Malaysia. Hence, a total of 140 Malaysian farmers were selected as respondents due to their low income status and they were required to participate in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives based on the concept of Creating Shared Value (CSV). The respondents then evaluated the CSR programme whether it impacts their wellbeing based on their perceptions. The data were analysed by using PLS-SEM. The finding shows the importance of opportunity and information sharing in modulating the relationship between relational and community development programme efficacy. Future research will be beneficial particularly in addressing the knowledge gap in CSR's business–community ties.
One of the most prevalent and traditional uses of statistics in hydrology is flood frequency analysis. The flood can occur practically everywhere and is considered the leading cause of natural disaster death worldwide. This study aims to apply the flood frequency analysis of the Kelantan streamflow site to identify the optimal distribution that best fits the flood frequency data from the goodness-of-fit test (GOF). Five distributions were applied in this study; namely lognormal (LG), generalized extreme value (GEV), generalized Pareto (GP), log-Pearson three (L3) and generalized logistic (GL) distribution. to obtain the parameter estimates. The distribution performance evaluation is then performed utilizing the GOF and efficiency evaluations. The results indicate that the generalized GP distribution is the best possible function for determining the annual peak flow at the Kelantan streamflow site.
The spread of COVID-19 has shifted teaching and learning methods at all institutes of higher learning in Malaysia from traditional methods to online distance learning. To cope with this new teaching method, students face some difficulties. One of the most challenging is the lack of internet access and accessibility that constrains students’ engagement and motivation toward online distance learning. The unaffordability to purchase internet data and poor internet connectivity are common problems that have often been voiced by students, as this greatly affects their attendance, communication, and submission of each class assignment. To reduce the burden faced by the students, government and telecommunication services providers introduced some initiatives to enhance internet access and accessibility. Thus, this study aims to review the impacts of internet access and accessibility initiatives on the effectiveness of online learning during the COVID-19 era. The conceptual reviews will acknowledge the policymakers on the barriers faced by the students, the impact of internet initiatives on online learning, and the recommendations to improve current practices on internet access and accessibility, It can be used by the policymakers to provide relevant initiatives to assist teaching and learning among students.
To move into the industrial revolution (IR) 4.0, the manufacturing sector faced some challenges, one of them is the shortage of skilled workforce. Previous studies also determined a lack of awareness and knowledge of IR 4.0 and Malaysian students still lack the necessary skills to work in the IR 4.0 era. Thus, the objectives of this study are to conceptualize the students’ skills towards adapting to IR 4.0. The study will discover IR 4.0 required skills, and the significant factors influencing students’ readiness, and the findings will also contribute to some solutions to improve students’ skills. This study is significant to the students, university, industry as well as policymakers. Students will increase their understanding of the required skills in the IR 4.0 era. University will gain input to provide quality education to equip the students with necessary skills. Besides, the industry can gain benefits from education development. Therefore, the issue of shortage of skilled workforces can be reduced. This study also will acknowledge the policy makers towards preparing future workforces and meeting the government objectives of implementing IR 4.0, particularly in the manufacturing sector in Malaysia.
Providing good quality service in business activity is an important aspect for a sustainable competitive advantage. Customer satisfaction leads to an organization’s success. The relationship between service quality dimensions and customer satisfaction and the factors influencing customer satisfaction of Pos Laju Malaysia service during Pandemic Covid-19 were examined in this study. By applying the modified SERVQUAL model, four service quality dimensions (reliability, assurance, empathy and responsiveness) were used as the independent variables. Quantitative research and convenience sampling methods were used for data collection among Pos Laju Malaysia’s users. 383 questionnaires were collected through an online survey. Both spearman’s rho correlation analysis and multiple linear regression through IBM SPSS were applied. The findings found that reliability, empathy, assurance, and responsiveness were positively and significantly associated with customer satisfaction toward Pos Laju Malaysia services. Among four service quality dimensions tested, reliability was the strongest factor influencing customer satisfaction on courier services (Pos Laju Malaysia) during Pandemic Covid 19. These findings are essential to the practitioners specifically Pos Laju Malaysia in improving their existing practice in order to make sure their service meets customer satisfaction consistently.
All residents must receive recycling education because environmentally conscious residents are more likely to become environmentally conscious citizens. In addition, recycling is known to be one of the strategies used to reduce reliance on landfills; this is important because further inaction will lead to landfills reaching maximum capacity. The study intends to explore the factors affecting the recycling behaviour among residents in the city and semi-dense areas in Johor, Malaysia. In this study, 400 respondents who live in highly dense areas (city) and semi-dense areas in Johor, Malaysia, will be surveyed. Multistage sampling will be utilised to choose the sample (recycling and non-recycling residents), and a questionnaire with closed-ended questions will be developed to gather study data. Regression, correlation, and descriptive statistics will examine the acquired data. These findings are expected to offer policymakers like district offices, municipal councils, city councils, and non-government organizations (NGOs) helpful information to plan and develop a more effective recycling policy and activities in Malaysia.
With the growing number of vehicles on the road, traffic flow problems are no longer a local issue; instead, traffic flow optimization has drawn significant interest from researchers all over the world. Studies of discrete-event simulation have been widely used to encounter problems related to traffic flow. Researchers of discrete-event simulation modeling typically tend to use statistical distributions for inter-arrival and process times based on the simulation software's built-in tools. The software tools include Input Analyzer in Arena, Stat::Fit for Promodel, and ExpertFit for FlexSim. However, there are other numerical metrics and concerns that researchers should examine while deciding on the best distribution. This research explores the exponential distribution and compares it to distributions generated by software, then to real data. The square error value is the focus of the comparison. There were 5404 data points collected for the vehicle arriving at six lanes at selected traffic junctions. According to the findings of this study, the commonly used exponential distribution can be utilized to depict the distribution of inter-arrival times as there is no significant difference from the more complex distribution. In future study, researcher can comfortably use exponential distribution instead of using complex distribution.
The school-based assessment was introduced to improve students’ outcomes. School-Based Assessment (SBA) or also known as Pentaksiran Berasaskan Sekolah (PBS), is a new holistic form of assessment that assesses cognitive (intellectual), affective (emotional and spiritual), and psychomotor (physical) for primary and secondary school students. The education transformation program of School-Based Assessment (SBA) is consistent with the global trend of continuous education development. It is also parallel to the government of Malaysia’s initiatives to produce a greater quality of human capital development. However, through the following years of implementation, grievances regarding the school-based assessment were given the spotlight in major newspapers. Thus, the teachers’ thoughts on such assessment should be studied more, along with related variables of interest. Findings on the multistage sampling survey of 333 schoolteachers in Selangor discovered that the teachers were inclined to positive sides of the change. The highest mean was shown by competency, followed by competency and the last is workload. Through the construct of workload, the teachers voted that they disagreed with the time they had with the assessment. The result of this study can provide further insight to the education bodies and policymakers to further strengthen the assessment.
