Background/Objectives: Lifestyle interventions may alleviate treatment-related toxicity and improve patient-centered outcomes during radiotherapy (RT). This scoping review mapped randomized evidence on lifestyle interventions delivered during RT, summarized reported outcomes, and identified evidence gaps. Methods: PubMed and Web of Science were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published from April 2016 to April 2026. Eligible studies included adults who received exercise, nutritional, psychological, combined, or multimodal lifestyle interventions during their RT treatment. Study characteristics, intervention details, and outcomes were charted and narratively synthesized. Results: Twenty-three RCTs were included. Exercise interventions were evaluated in 12 studies, nutrition in five, psychological in one, combined exercise-and-nutrition in two, combined nutrition-and-psychological in two, and multimodal interventions comprising all three components in one study. Breast, head and neck, and prostate cancers were most frequently represented. QoL, fatigue, and functional capacity were the most commonly assessed outcomes. Exercise interventions were most consistently associated with improvements in fatigue and functional capacity, whereas effects on QoL were less consistent. Nutritional interventions showed favorable findings for nutritional status and treatment-related toxicity. Psychological, combined, and multimodal interventions showed favorable findings for selected QoL, fatigue, nutritional, and psychological outcomes. Key evidence gaps included heterogeneous intervention protocols and outcomes assessment, limited evidence for non-exercise interventions and underrepresentation of several cancer populations. Conclusions: Lifestyle interventions delivered during RT may improve selected patient-centered and treatment-related toxicity outcomes. Exercise comprised the largest body of evidence, whereas other intervention types were less frequently evaluated. Heterogeneity across studies limits conclusions regarding optimal approaches. Further RT-specific studies using standardized intervention programs and comparable outcome measures are required to inform supportive-care delivery.
Depression is the primary cause of psychological distress, particularly in a crisis like the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Primary healthcare structures don't seem to be able to identify and treat a sizable percentage of depressed individuals. This study aimed to examine the prevalence of undiagnosed depression in primary healthcare settings during the post-COVID-19 pandemic and its correlation with demographics and alcoholism. This cross-sectional study used the PHQ-9 (Patient Health Questionnaire-9) to measure depression levels and the FAST (Fast Alcohol Screening Test) to assess alcoholism. A total of 212 individuals (86 males, aged 51.22 ± 6.11, and 126 females, aged 49.75 ± 6.22) who visited a Primary Health Center in Western Greece between May 2022 and September 2022 were included in the study. Findings revealed the occurrence of undetected depression in a percentage of 63.2% of cases. More specifically, 36.8% of the sample showed no depressive symptoms at all, 28.3% had mild depression, 18.4% had moderate depression, and 16.5% had severe depression. However, gender and alcoholism did not seem to influence the occurrence of depressive symptoms somehow. The results offer significant evidence regarding the prevalence of depression and its inadequate diagnosis in primary healthcare settings throughout the post-COVID-19 era. Based on the findings, general practitioners, mental health professionals, and the personnel of a Primary Health structure can use these questionnaires as screening tools for depression and alcoholism problems during patients’ visits. Future longitudinal studies might be conducted to examine the enduring psychological impacts of the pandemic and develop a depression awareness campaign within the context of primary healthcare.
Background: Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) commonly experience persistent difficulties in social communication, emotional regulation, and social engagement. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI)-based technologies, particularly socially assistive robots and intelligent sensing systems, have been explored as complementary tools to support psychosocial interventions in this population. Objective: This systematic review aimed to critically evaluate recent evidence on the effectiveness of AI-based interventions in improving social, emotional, and cognitive functioning in children with ASD. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed following PRISMA guidelines, targeting English-language studies published between 2020 and 2025. Eligible studies involved children with ASD and implemented AI-driven tools within therapeutic or educational settings. Eight studies met inclusion criteria and were analyzed using the PICO framework. Results: The reviewed interventions included humanoid and non-humanoid robots, gaze-tracking systems, and theory of mind-oriented applications. Across studies, AI-based interventions were associated with improvements in joint attention, social communication and reciprocity, emotion recognition and regulation, theory of mind, and task engagement. Outcomes were assessed using standardized behavioral measures, observational coding, parent or therapist reports, and physiological or sensor-based indices. However, the studies were characterized by small and heterogeneous samples, short intervention durations, and variability in outcome measures. Conclusions: Current evidence suggests that AI-based systems may serve as valuable adjuncts to conventional interventions for children with ASD, particularly for supporting structured social and emotional skill development. Nonetheless, methodological limitations and limited long-term data underscore the need for larger, multi-site trials with standardized protocols to better establish efficacy, generalizability, and ethical integration into clinical practice.
Detecting and managing speech-language pathology symptoms in patients with post-COVID syndrome (long COVID) presents a significant challenge, as the condition is marked by persistent and varied symptoms such as cognitive deficits, communication difficulties, and voice disorders. To address these challenges, a Fuzzy Cognitive Map Decision Support System (FCM-DSS) was developed to model causal relationships and integrate expert knowledge. A systematic review approach, though not comprehensive, was utilized to identify key symptoms and their prevalence from 19 studies, focusing on brain fog, attention deficits, memory problems, dyspnea, and swallowing difficulties. The weighted prevalence of these symptoms informed the development of the FCM-DSS model, designed to link symptoms to medical specialties and recommend specialist referrals. Preliminary testing on four case studies demonstrated the tool’s potential, but further validation through pilot studies is necessary.
Background and Objectives: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. Individuals with multiple sclerosis may require daily care and support from caregivers due to the disease’s progressive and unpredictable nature. However, the role of caregiving is not without its challenges, and caregivers themselves often face significant repercussions in terms of their quality of life, mental health, and stress levels. Our study aims to investigate the level of stress caregivers experience in their everyday life and the way stress affects their quality of life. Materials and Methods: We conducted a multicenter, cross-sectional study from 11 November 2023 to 20 March 2024 in healthcare units in Western Greece. All 96 participants were adult caregivers of patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). We assessed caregivers’ quality of life and stress levels using the 36-item Short Form Health Survey and Kingston Caregiver Stress Scale, respectively. Non-parametric tests (Spearman’s rho test, Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney tests) were used to identify possible correlations between the aforementioned scales and between stress levels and caregiver characteristics. Results: Caregivers reported high stress, with an average KCSS score of 36.82 ± 0.851. The mean SF-36 physical component summary score (PCS) was 59.59 ± 2.77, whereas the mental component summary score (MCS) was 45.69 ± 2.32. Stress levels in the KCSS were negatively correlated with both PCS and MCS of SF-36 and female gender, education level, monthly income, limits of mobility, and patient’s level of dependence were associated with higher levels of stress. Conclusions: Stress was found to be negatively connected with caregivers’ quality of life, affecting both physical and mental health. Female caregivers, caregivers with a primary education level and a low monthly income, and caregivers of patients with serious illnesses who rely primarily on daily help were the most affected.
Accurate knowledge about autism spectrum disorder (ASD), whether it is for children or adults, is necessary for healthcare professionals to address the increased needs of this population and decrease the disparities in the services provided. The study aims to adapt the Autism Stigma and Knowledge Questionnaire (ASK-Q) into Greek among mental health professionals (MHP), such as speech therapists, psychiatrists, and the general population (GP). The translated version was administered to 73 MHP and 140 GP according to the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Medical Outcomes Trust guidelines. Findings revealed that MHP had adequate knowledge of autism and did not endorse the stigma of autism. Statistically significant differences were indicated in ASK-Q subdomains between MHP and the GP and its four structural factors. The internal consistency was acceptable (α=0.646). The ROC analysis computed to determine the cut-off points of the ASK-Q four domains returned a result of 39.00 with a sensitivity of 0.616 and 1-specificity of 0.150. The proposed version of the ASK-Q has good psychometric properties and is valid and reliable for assessing the knowledge and stigma beliefs associated with autism among mental health professionals.
Cancer therapy can result in acute cardiac events, such as coronary artery spasm, acute myocardial infarction, thromboembolism, myocarditis, bradycardia, tachyarrhythmias, atrio-ventricular blocks, QT prolongation, torsades de pointes, pericardial effusion, and hypotension, as well as chronic conditions, such as hypertension, and systolic and diastolic left ventricular dysfunction presenting clinically as heart failure or cardiomyopathy. In cardio-oncology, when referring to cardiac toxicity and cardiovascular hypersensitivity, there is a great deal of misunderstanding. When a dose-related cardiovascular side effect continues even after the causative medication is stopped, it is referred to as a cardiotoxicity. A fibrotic response is the ultimate outcome of cardiac toxicity, which is defined as a dose-related cardiovascular adverse impact that lasts even after the causative treatment is stopped. Cardiotoxicity can occur after a single or brief exposure. On the other hand, the term cardiac or cardiovascular hypersensitivity describes an inflammatory reaction that is not dose-dependent, can occur at any point during therapy, even at very low medication dosages, and can present as Kounis syndrome. It may also be accompanied by anti-drug antibodies and tryptase levels. In this comprehensive review, we present the current views on cardiac toxicity and cardiovascular hypersensitivity, together with the reviewed cardiac literature on the chemotherapeutic agents inducing hypersensitivity reactions. Cardiac hypersensitivity seems to be the pathophysiologic basis of coronary artery spasm, acute coronary syndromes such as Kounis syndrome, and myocarditis caused by cancer therapy.
(1) Background: The present systematic study aimed to assess whether using esophageal speech (ES) as a method of vocal rehabilitation in patients after total laryngectomy enhances their quality of life (QoL) and vocal functionality based on patients’ reports. (2) Methods: Data collection was conducted from PubMed, Google Scholar, and Speech Bite, and the PRISMA Flow Diagram tool was used to record different stages of the literature search process. In the review, nine studies were included, while a bias check was carried out using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) checklists. Survey analysis incorporated quantitative and qualitative data, including standardized questionnaires and audio analyses. (3) Results: A technique’s effectiveness depends on the method’s functionality and the patient’s abilities. Furthermore, the findings revealed that ES use unexpectedly affects quality of life regarding patients. While statistical analysis of the studies showed that some patients reported improvement in quality of life and vocal functionality, others faced challenges such as difficulty in learning the technique, long-term intervention, and unsatisfactory phonetic performance. Some studies observed quantitative measures, such as improved Voice Impairment Index (VHI) scores and Voice-Related Quality of Life (V-RQOL) scores. However, results were not uniformly positive across studies, with a subset of patients reporting minimal improvement. (4) Conclusions: The limited literature on the effect of ES on patients’ QoL appears to influence the results in different ways. However, research data support that patients’ communication and psychological state seem to improve significantly compared to patients who have not been rehabilitated. The final assessment of the technique’s effectiveness on quality of life must depend on many factors.
(1) Background and Objectives: This review aims to identify the latest literature on the possible effect of bilingualism on the linguistic skills of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) residing in Greece. (2) Materials and Methods: The literature was searched in the databases of Scopus and PubMed by selecting articles and by reviewing four studies published in peer-reviewed journals. This Scoping Review is based on the standards of PRISMA recommendations for scoping reviews, while the PCC framework was used as a guide to construct clear and meaningful objectives and eligibility criteria. (3) Results: The publications included in the review addressed a variety of language-related skills, including morphology, the syntax–pragmatics interface, narrative ability, as well as both receptive and expressive language skills. (4) Conclusions: Three out of four studies provide evidence that bilingual ASD children are not disadvantaged compared to monolingual peers but rather enjoy some benefits, to a certain extent, due to bilingualism. However, the number of the reviewed studies as well as the limitations of the studies themselves render this conclusion tentative. Additionally, the findings set guidelines that speech therapists, educators, psychologists, and doctors in the Greek context need to follow when treating or educating bilingual children with ASD.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by the novel severe acute respiratory coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Several explanations for the development of cardiovascular complications during and after acute COVID-19 infection have been hypothesized. The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has emerged as one of the deadliest pandemics in modern history. The myocardial injury in COVID-19 patients has been associated with coronary spasm, microthrombi formation, plaque rupture, hypoxic injury, or cytokine storm, which have the same pathophysiology as the three clinical variants of Kounis syndrome. The angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), renin-aldosterone system (RAAS), and kinin-kallikrein system are the main proposed mechanisms contributing to cardiovascular complications with the COVID-19 infection. ACE receptors can be found in the heart, blood vessels, endothelium, lungs, intestines, testes, neurons, and other human body parts. SARS-CoV-2 directly invades the endothelial cells with ACE2 receptors and constitutes the main pathway through which the virus enters the endothelial cells. This causes angiotensin II accumulation downregulation of the ACE2 receptors, resulting in prothrombotic effects, such as hemostatic imbalance via activation of the coagulation cascade, impaired fibrinolysis, thrombin generation, vasoconstriction, endothelial and platelet activation, and pro-inflammatory cytokine release. The KKS system typically causes vasodilation and regulates tissue repair, inflammation, cell proliferation, and platelet aggregation, but SARS-CoV-2 infection impairs such counterbalancing effects. This cascade results in cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, cardiomyopathy, cytokine storm, heart failure, ischemic myocardial injuries, microvascular disease, Kounis syndrome, prolonged COVID, myocardial fibrosis, myocarditis, new-onset hypertension, pericarditis, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, pulmonary hypertension, stroke, Takotsubo syndrome, venous thromboembolism, and thrombocytopenia. In this narrative review, we describe and elucidate when, where, and how COVID-19 affects the human cardiovascular system in various parts of the human body that are vulnerable in every patient category, including children and athletes.
There is limited evidence regarding the effect of animation compared to static pictures on children's language development. The aim was to systematically review the available literature for evidence concerning the effect of brief animation on spoken language responses (receptive-listening or expressive-speaking) in typically developing (TD) children aged 3 to 9 years. Five databases were searched, resulting in seven included studies. The characteristics of animated stimuli, the manner of presentation, and the language-related tasks were recorded, and questions were posed about the effect of brief animation on children's receptive and expressive language abilities. The evidence suggests that animation may have a positive effect on expressive language abilities of children compared to static pictures. As far as the effect of animation on receptive language performance is concerned, the evidence is less concrete. Future directions regarding the potential of animation on language development are discussed.
AbstractCerebral palsy includes a spectrum of neurodevelopmental disorders caused by brain damage, leading to impairment of movement, posture, and balance for a lifetime. There are many therapeutic interventions for cerebral palsy. One of them is hippotherapy, an alternative physical therapy. It is a type of equine-assisted activity and therapy where children with cerebral palsy and motor function skills interact with a horse. We aimed to study the effects of hippotherapy, as an alternative therapy, on the motor function of children with cerebral palsy. We performed a review of the latest literature on hippotherapy and cerebral palsy. The criteria we used were specific keywords, publication date, age of the subjects/studied population, and article type. The outcome of our research resulted in ten relevant studies. The findings demonstrate improvements in various aspects of motor function – more specifically in gross motor function skills, balance, coordination, gait parameters, and muscle strength. Two of ten studies used the Horse-Riding Simulator with significant improvements in postural control in sitting, motor function, and hip abduction range of motion. Hippotherapy can improve motor function skills of children between 2 and 14 years of age with cerebral palsy, affecting their well-being and overall quality of life. It can have a positive effect either as a standalone treatment or as a part of other traditional therapies. Extended research is needed to assess whether hippotherapy may present significant long-term changes in motor skills in children with cerebral palsy.
(1) Background: This study assesses the impact of mothers’ illness perceptions about autism spectrum disorder and their coping strategies on the family’s quality of life during the initial period following diagnosis and one year afterward. (2) Method: The sample consisted of 53 mothers of children newly diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and having communication difficulties who completed the following: the Beach Center Family Quality of Life Scale, the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire, and the Brief-COPE. (3) Results: The findings revealed a moderate family quality of life in the initial assessment and a lack of a statistically significant change one year later. Notably, statistically significant changes were observed in coping strategies, as in the second assessment, and the score in denial and self-blame decreased. Pearson and Eta analyses indicated several correlations between socio-demographic characteristics, illness perceptions, coping strategies, and family quality of life. Multiple regression analysis showed that positive reframing was positively associated with total family quality of life in the initial period following diagnosis and one year afterward, while self-blame was associated with poorer quality of life in the time after diagnosis. Furthermore, the belief about the controllability of the disorder was correlated with better family quality of life one year after the diagnosis. (4) Conclusions: Illness perceptions and coping can be considered as predictors of family quality of life outcomes one year after the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. The focus of interventions, apart from controlling the disorder’s symptoms, should aim to strengthen specific strategies and weaken others.
Inflammation plays a crucial role in diabetes and obesity through macrophage activation. Macrophage chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), activin-A, and clusterin are chemokines with known roles in diabetes and obesity. The aim of this study is to investigate their possible diagnostic and/or early prognostic values in children and adolescents with obesity and type-1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Methods: We obtained serum samples from children and adolescents with a history of T1DM or obesity, in order to measure and compare MCP-1, activin-A, and clusterin concentrations. Results: Forty-three subjects were included in each of the three groups (controls, T1DM, and obesity). MCP-1 values were positively correlated to BMI z-score. Activin-A was increased in children with obesity compared to the control group. A trend for higher values was detected in children with T1DM. MCP-1 and activin-A levels were positively correlated. Clusterin levels showed a trend towards lower values in children with T1DM or obesity compared to the control group and were negatively correlated to renal function. Conclusions: The inflammation markers MCP-1, activin-A, and clusterin are not altered in children with T1DM. Conversely, obesity in children is positively correlated to serum MCP-1 values and characterized by higher activin-A levels, which may reflect an already established systematic inflammation with obesity since childhood.
AIM:Arterial stiffness hallmarks age-related cardiovascular diseases, precedes their onset and strongly links to accelerated disease progression. However, whether carotid-to-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV), a proxy of arterial stiffness, predicts cardiovascular risk over and above SCORE2, a newly introduced risk score remains to be investigated. METHODS:We measured PWV among 747 individuals without established atheromatosis. Study participants were followed up over a 6-year period for the incidence of cardiovascular events [[MACE)-cardiovascular mortality, stroke and myocardial infarction]. RESULTS:PWV emerged as an independent and additive predictor of first cardiovascular events when added in a model encompassing SCORE2 (hazard ratio = 1.10; 95% confidence interval (95% CI) = 1.07-1.14; P < 0.001, Brier score changed from 0.073 (0.060-0.086) to 0.067 (0.055-0.081); P < 0.001, c-statistic increased from 0.71 to 0.75; P = 0.017; likelihood ratio: 20.22; P < 0.001; the overall net reclassification improvement (NRI): 0.577; P < 0.001, AICc changed from 697.81 to 679.60; BIC changed from 702.42 to 688.82]. An increase in PWV predicted a greater risk of future MACEs additively to conventional risk factors ( P < 0.05). We performed Kaplan-Meier survival analysis for the tertiles of PWV [first tertile < 8.04 m/s; the second tertile: (8.04-10 m/s); the third tertile: (10-17.10 m/s); ( P < 0.05 for all comparisons between the tertiles). PWV tertiles also predicted MACE when added to SCORE2 [for the second tertile: hazard ratio: 5.87 (95% CI: 1.73-19.92); P = 0.004 and for the third tertile: hazard ratio: 9.69 (95% CI: 2.97-31.55); P < 0.001 with the respective change of c-statistic from 0.739 to 0.772; P = 0.012 and continuous NRI = 0.598]. CONCLUSION:PWV confers additive prognostic value to the newly introduced SCORE2 for adverse outcome in primary prevention.

(1) Background: This study aimed to validate the Greek version of the Autism Parenting Stress Index (APSI) among parents of children with ASD. (2) Methods: The translated version was administered to 113 parents (Male: 12, Female: 101, 39.24 years old, SD 6.70, age range, 25–58) of children diagnosed with ASD and 127 parents (Male: 24, Female: 103, 41.08 years old, SD 6.22, age range: 27–56) of typically developing children. (3) Results: Significant differences between the APSI total scores and three domains between groups were observed. Although the initial factor structure could not be replicated, the APSI’s internal consistency was excellent (a = 0.914), with a high positive item–total correlation (0.900–0.917). The APSI’s test–retest reliability was excellent, showing an ICC equal to 0.922 [95%, CI: 0.900–0.940]. The APSI’s total score cut-off point was equal to 12.00 (AUC 0.845, p < 0.001) with a sensitivity of 0.839 and 1-specificity of 0.220. A principal component analysis of the 13 items, using varimax rotations, identified three factors, which explained approximately 45.8% of the overall variance. (4) Conclusions: The Greek version of the APSI exhibited discriminant validity for measuring parents of children with ASD. Greek health professionals can use it to assess the stress experienced by parents of children with ASD.
BACKGROUND:Fagerstrom score is a validated marker of nicotine addiction in smokers.METHODS:In a prospective study, we investigated a) the predictive value of Fagerstrom score for the smoking status in patients early after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and b) the effectiveness of medically assisted smoking cessation programs in the prevention of relapsing to smoking post discharge. In 103 smokers (58 ± 12 years, 79.6% males), we assessed Fagerstrom score during hospitalization for AMI. Patients filled a dedicated questionnaire including data on family, marital and educational status, habits related to smoking and were followed-up at 3 and 6 months after discharge.RESULTS:Twenty-eight patients (27.2%) did not quit smoking throughout the 6-months follow-up period (Fagerstrom score:8.1 ± 1.6), 39 patients (37.8%) ceased smoking at 3 months but relapsed to smoking at 6 months (score:6.8 ± 2.1), and only 34 patients (33%) had ceased smoking for 6 consecutive months (score:5.2 ± 2 p < 0.05 for all comparisons between subgroups). By multivariate analysis, Fagerstrom score remained a significant predictor of smoking cessation at 6 months (OR: 0.72, 95%CI: 0.60--0.86, p < 0.001). Out of 73 patients who abstained from smoking for the first 3 months post-AMI, those who participated in a smoking cessation program displayed lower rate of relapsing to smoking compared with those who opted to cease smoking without any support (33.3% vs 61.8% p = 0.012).CONCLUSION:Fagerstrom score is a useful predictor of smoking cessation 6 months post-AMI. Patients participating in a smoking cessation program display lower relapse rates post-discharge suggesting the need of well-organized smoking cessation clinics for secondary prevention of heart disease.
Childhood obesity can affect both physical and mental health. Body-size misperception may lead to a lack of motivation to make healthy changes or to engage in unhealthy weight loss behaviors, increasing the possibility for obese children to become obese adults. To estimate the frequency of body-size misperception among children and adolescents, we conducted a cross-sectional study within another study on eating disorders in youth in Greece (National Institute of Educational Policy, act no. 04/2018). Between January and December 2019, two trained assistants visited 83 primary and secondary schools of the Region of Western Greece and interviewed 3504 children aged 10-16 years (CL 99%) and performed anthropometric measurements. Among the 3504 surveyed children, 1097 were overweight, including 424 obese, and 51 were underweight. The "perceived" BMI was not computed in 875 children (25%), who did not state their weight or height and were classified as non-responders. Weight bias was inversely related to BMI, the obese and overweight non-obese children underestimated their weight, while the underweight children overestimated it. Conversely, height bias was positively related to BMI bias. BMI bias was not related to sex, age, parental education, or place of residence. In conclusion, our study lends robust support to the existing evidence on unrealistic body images among overweight children and adolescents. Prompt recognition of such misperceptions may help in increasing motivation towards healthier eating habits, systematic physical activity, and weight-control interventions.
OBJECTIVE:The impact of COVID-19 vaccination on parental and childhood stress levels has not been thoroughly investigated. Our aim was to explore the above relationship and identify factors that may influence the dissemination of stress within the family during the pandemic.SUBJECTS AND METHODS:A cross-sectional e-survey was conducted among a nationwide sample of parents in May 2021 in Greece. Parental stress was assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Revised Impact of Event Scale (IES-R) tools. Childhood mental well-being was evaluated with the Children's Revised Impact of Event 13 (CRIES 13) scale.RESULTS:1,703 unique questionnaires were analyzed; 19.5% of responders were completely vaccinated, 23.7% were partially vaccinated, 38.3% were awaiting vaccination, and 18.5% were classified as vaccine-hesitant (15.2% would delay, and 3.3% refused the vaccination). Stress levels were significantly lower in completely or partially vaccinated parents than in vaccine-hesitant ones (p<0.001 for PSS/IES-R). Vaccination status emerged as a strong and independent predictor of PSS and IES-R. A significant decrease in PSS and IES-R scores was observed in 991 participants between March 2020 and May 2021 (p<0.001 for PSS/IES-R). Vaccine uptake was associated with lower PSS and IES-R scores, irrespective of the phase of the pandemic or other sociodemographic factors. The CRIES 13 score of the participant's children (n=2,969) was 19.4 ±14.9 and positively correlated with the PSS and IES-R scores. Children whose parents were vaccinated had lower stress levels than those of vaccine-hesitant parents (p<0.001).CONCLUSIONS:Parental vaccination against COVID-19 is a significant stress and anxiety predictor for both parents and their offspring. Parental and childhood stress levels were correlated, while the effect of vaccination was independent of the pandemic phase. The campaigns to promote vaccine uptake against COVID-19 should also highlight its potential benefit on the psychological well-being of the family.
