This chapter discusses integrated curricula, and describes efforts at Mansfield University to build an integrated undergraduate curriculum that maintains a common core while responding to students’ growing expectations for a customized educational experience. It outlines orientation courses and senior seminars, research methods, and career planning.
Every year since 1996, the Pennsylvania Psychological Association (PPA) has its surveyed members to monitor practice patterns, changes in workforce demographics, and to determine the opinions of its members on issues related to the practice of psychology. This article reviews those surveys and discusses how PPA has used the information. Implications for professional psychology and other state, provincial, and territorial psychological associations are discussed.

The consistent end-to-end simulation of airborne and spaceborne earth remote sensing systems is an important task, and sometimes the only way for the adaptation and optimisation of a sensor and its observation conditions, the choice and test of algorithms for data processing, error estimation and the evaluation of the capabilities of the whole sensor system.The presented software simulator SENSOR (Software Environment for the Simulation of Optical Remote sensing systems) includes a full model of the sensor hardware, the observed scene. and the atmosphere in between. The simulator consists of three parts. The first part describes the geometrical relations between scene, sun, and the remote sensing system using a ray-tracing algorithm. The second part of the simulation environment considers the radiometry. It calculates the at-sensor radiance using a pre-calculated multidimensional lookup-table taking the atmospheric influence on the radiation into account. The third part consists of an optical and an electronic sensor model for the generation of digital images. Using SENSOR for an optimisation requires the additional application of task-specific data processing algorithms.The principle of the end-to-end-simulation approach is explained. all relevant concepts of SENSOR are discussed. and first examples of its use are given. The verification of SENSOR is demonstrated. This work is closely related to the Airborne PRISM Experiment (APEX). an airborne imaging spectrometer funded by the European Space Agency. An extension of the atmospheric correction model A TCOR 4 is presented for the pre-correction of inland water. In this study, the visibility is obtimized under the assumption that the water-leaving radiance is zero in the near infrared (dark target approach) leading to a pixel based correction. A sen- sitivity analysis is performed with respect to the retrieval of chlorophyll a . It is shown that the assumptions made for the pre-correction is crucial for the relative and absolute lake water constituent concentration.
This article provides a brief overview of research perspectives on rural mental health services and suggests the importance of building an agenda to bring coherence to studies in this area. The need for sound theory and methodology to guide research is emphasized. The importance of better conceptualization of the rural context as a focus of research is addressed, and 14 propositions concerning issues the authors think will advance rural research are presented. This article is intended to stimulate discussion about a research agenda that will lead to better understanding of rural needs for mental health services as well as more responsive service models.
Macromolecular structures are being determined at an increasing rate, and are of interest to a wide diversity of researchers. Depositing a macromolecular structure with the Protein Data Bank makes it readily available to the community. Accuracy, consistency and machine-readability of the data are essential, as are clear indications of quality, and sufficient information to allow non-experimentalists to interpret the data. Good-quality depositions are necessary to allow this to be achieved. The PDB's AutoDep system allows deposition and some preliminary automatic checking to take place at multiple sites, prior to full processing and release of the structure by the PDB. However, depositing a structure currently requires the manual entry of a large amount of information at the time of deposition. The data-harvesting approach will allow much more information to be deposited, without placing an additional burden on the depositor. Deposition-ready files will be generated automatically during the course of a structure-determination experiment. The additional information will allow improved validation procedures to be applied to the structures, and the data to be made more useful to the wider scientific community.
Ground spectroradiometric measurements using a GER3700 spectroradiometer on grassland communities are used to assess the potential of unmixing methods, derivative spectroscopy, and spectral feature fitting. The reference testsite used for this work is a well controlled and maintained area by a multinational biodiversity project, namely 'BIODEPTH'. Results of the application of the different methods are discussed in order to retrieve vegetation cover and nitrogen content.
The amount of adjacency effect present in imaging spectrometer data over lakes is determined using a helicopter mounted spectroradiometer. The experiment - carried out over an eutrophic lake in Central Switzerland - included extensive ground data collection including water quality assessment and underwater spectroradiometric measurements. The experiment is flown over the same transect in 11 different altitudes above the lake. The radiometric measurements are converted to reflectance values using a Spectralon panel and a sun photometer. The contribution of the green vegetation on both ends of the transects to the water signal is measured and discussed. Adjacency effects present in imaging spectrometer data lead to an overestimation of the effective signal of the observed object. In the special case of green vegetation and water bodies, the overlay of three effects contributing to the observed total chlorophyll signal in a lake can be discriminated. First the sensors signal is influenced by the macrophytes chlorophyll content in shallow water as long as the sensor penetrates the first few meters of the water body. Second the adjacency effects originating from the lake's surrounding vegetation contributes to the total signal. Finally the dissolved chlorophyll in the water itself is the parameter of investigation and shall be used to monitor chlorophyll concentration distribution within the lake.
This paper will discuss the principles of cathode-ray tube displays in medical imaging and the parameters essential to the selection of displays for specific requirements. A discussion of cathode-ray tube fundamentals and medical requirements is included.
