Noch nie wurden derart gewaltige Datenmengen produziert wie in jüngster Zeit. Daraus erwächst die Erwartung, dass sich in den Peta- und Exabyte an Daten interessante Informationen finden lassen, wenn es nur gelingt, dieses gewaltige Volumen zielgerichtet auszuwerten. Sowohl in der Wissenschaft als auch zunehmend in der Praxis werden daher Verfahren und Technologien diskutiert, die interessante Muster in umfangreichen Datenbeständen aufdecken und Prognosen über zukünftige Ereignisse und Gegebenheiten anstellen können. Zahlreiche der hierfür verwendeten Methoden sind unter dem Begriffsgebilde Data Mining bereits seit langer Zeit bekannt, wurden jedoch im Laufe der Jahre ausgebaut und verfeinert. Der vorliegende Beitrag setzt sich das Ziel, die wesentlichen Verfahren zur Datenanalyse im Überblick zu präsentieren und dabei auf die grundlegenden Vorgehensweisen sowie potenzielle Einsatzbereiche einzugehen.
Cooperative work in the processes of analysis and decision support currently gains strong attention in the business world. This is motivated by spreading corporate structures and technical developments like social media and network-oriented data storage that encourage the users' comprehension and demand for easy communication about data. This article reflects the state of research in the domain of business intelligence regarding the opening of processes for new data sources and analysts. Existing approaches are often labeled collaborative business intelligence (CBI), but differ heavily in definitions and focus. Therefore, a framework is presented and three main fields for the research of CBI are identified, which encompass internal communication, data storage with (external) partners and data analysis with partners. This article compares the findings with developments on the software market and describes open topics in the research domain.
Online Social Networks (OSNs) gain more and more attention in nearly all systems or concepts that deal with the exchange of information between human actors. While the analysis process in Business Intelligence systems normally is based on structured and pre-filtered data, OSNs promise a lot of customer insights for companies. On the other hand, OSNs are a common product used by the analysts themselves to interconnect and discuss. Therefore they may serve the inter-human exchange about the analyzed figures and support collaboration of the users. We show how OSNs can support the collaboration and communication in a joint analysis process and prove the feasibility with a small prototype.
While Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives have been a top-priority of CIOs around the world for several years, accounting for billions of USD of IT investments per annum (IDC), academic research on the actual benefits derived from BI tools and the drivers of these benefits remain sparse.This paper reports the findings of an exploratory, cross-sectional field study investigating the factors that define and drive benefits associated with the deployment of dedicated BI tools.BI is broadly defined as an analytical process which transforms fragmented data of enterprises and markets into action-oriented information or knowledge about objectives, opportunities and positions of an organization; BI tools are software products primarily designed and deployed to support this analytical process (e.g. data warehouse software, data mining software, digital dashboards applications).Building upon DeLoneand McLean’s (1992; 2002; 2003) information systems success model, we develop, test and refine a BI quality and performance model adapted for the specific purpose, application, user group and technology of BI tools. The ultimate performance predictors in this model are user satisfaction and the impact of BI tools on managerial decision quality, both of which are determined by data quality.Partial Least Square (PLS) modeling is used to analyze data collected in a survey administered to IT executives of large Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) listed companies.The results confirm some of the theoretical relationships established in – especially the original – DeLone-McLean model in the specific context of BI. More importantly, the results also confirm the important role of explicit BI management as antecedent of benefits derived from BI tools, and the key impact of data quality on managerial decision making and organizational performance.However, the results also reveal a ‘user satisfaction paradox’: In contrast to the predictions derived from the DeLone-McLean model, organizational performance is negatively associated with user satisfaction with BI tools. Financial performance data collected for ex-post verification of this unexpected result confirm this paradox. We discuss BI-specific interpretations of these unexpected findings and provide avenues for future research.
Some approaches to support decision making in the context of business process management exist since a couple of years. Most of them are not systemized. This fact leads to the necessity of a classification of this broad area. The paper´s objective is to evaluate and differentiate approaches of Business Process Intelligence (BPI) within the last decade. The results of this analysis are a morphological box and a definition to clarify potentials of Business Process Intelligence. The definition integrates the most frequently used characteristics as well as different understandings of BPI and it indicates a holistic view on the dimensions of this area. Additionally, the literature-based propositions regarding current shifts provide the author´s perspective to the field of BPI and point out a guideline for further research.
Der vorliegende Beitrag gibt einen kurzen historischen Abriss zur Entwicklung der Business Intelligence (BI) und bezieht sich insbesondere auf das Spannungsfeld zwischen den technologischen Entwicklungen und den betriebswirtschaftlichen Anforderungen beim Aufbau von analytischen Informationssystemen. Business Intelligence stellt sich der Herausforderung, fragmentierte interne und externe Unternehmensinformationen zu einer vertrauenswürdigen Quelle der Entscheidungsfindung zusammenzuführen. Um eine adäquate Entscheidungsunterstützung zu etablieren, müssen sowohl die Prozesse und Inhalte der Unternehmensstrategie antizipiert, als auch die aktuellen Technologien der Informationsbeschaffung, Informationsspeicherung und Informationsaufbereitung implementiert werden. Zur Steuerung der BI-Prozesse werden zunehmend BI Competence Center eingerichtet, die als Organisationseinheit den Ausgleich zwischen dem wachsenden Pull der Fachabteilungen und den technologischen Angeboten (Push) der IT herstellen. Im Rahmen des Strategic Alignment werden die Ziele der BI-Strategie mit der Unternehmensstrategie abgeglichen, um effektive und effiziente BISysteme zu implementieren. Neben anderen aktuellen Themen der BI wird insbesondere die In-Memory-Technologie als neuer Impuls zur Wertsteigerung von BILösungen diskutiert.

This paper gives an insight perspective for developing a business intelligence architecture to satisfy permanently growing controlling requirements in complex distribution networks. Supply Chain Management (SCM), as a part of management science concerning intelligent synchronization of supply and demand, is the basis for the development of flexible, proactive and adaptive real-time information systems, called Operational Business Intelligence (OpBI) systems, which offer a significant support for decision making on operational level. Application scenarios including concrete decision-problems are analyzed regarding system implementation and in consideration of supply chain performance. The conclusion reflects the development process in order to allow a foresight.
There exist some approaches to support decision making in the context of business processes. Most of them are not systemized. The aim of this paper is to evaluate and differentiate existing approaches of Business Process Intelligence and to detect further research activities in this field to propose a holistic concept. This is done by a literature review to identify related concepts and to be able to constitute further research by doing an empirical study and a case study. The results are a morphological box and a definition to clarify potentials of a Business Process Intelligence. Additionally, propositions based on selected theories are formulated which provide a basis for further research.

Im Folgenden wird das Aufgabenspektrum eines Wirtschaftsinformatikers mit den notwendigen Standardabschlüssen dargestellt, um dem Leser grundlegende Informationen über das Berufsbild zur Verfügung zu stellen. Weiterhin wird auf die verschiedenen Tätigkeitsfelder sowie auf die derzeitige Arbeitsmarktsituation und Verdienstmöglichkeiten eingegangen.
