Future military and naval operations will require substantially increased connectivity and communications for force coordination, mission planning, and tactical execution. The submarine force is seeking to achieve these goals while preserving its important attributes of stealth and survivability. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has initiated a program in conjunction with the Navy to examine advanced antenna array technologies to address these needs. This article describes the DARPA approach and APL's role in the program.
