The viscous and Joule dissipation effects on stagnation point flow of thermally radiating Casson nanoliquid over a convectively heated stretching sheet under hydromagnetic assumptions are discussed. The influence of heat absorption on heat transfer and chemical reaction prompted by activation energy on mass transfer is also considered. The appropriate transformations are implemented for converting the governing partial differential equations into a set of coupled ordinary differential equations. BVP4C routine of MATLAB has been used to solve the coupled nonlinear ODEs. The way fluid velocity, concentration, temperature, Bejan number and entropy generation behave subject to change in the flow parameters, has been discussed through graphs, whereas the important physical quantities such as skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are analyzed on the basis of numerical values presented in tables. On the obtained numerical data of Nusselt number, linear and quadratic regression analyses have been performed. It is concluded that for larger values of thermal and concentration buoyancy parameters, fluid velocity tends to decrease inside the boundary layer region. It is also found that plastic dynamic viscosity of Casson nanoliquid tends to reduce the rate of entropy generation.
An experimental investigation of droplet formation induced by an external electric field in a T-shaped microfluidic device is presented. The effect of electric field is reported for scenarios where the hydrodynamics is known to be governed by the cumulative effect of hydrodynamic pressure and interfacial tension acting on the liquid-liquid interface. Experiments reveal that the electrohydrodynamic phenomena transforms the droplet formation mechanism by inducing pinning of the dispersed phase to the channel wall, leading to a significant decrease in the droplet filling time and hence a decrease in the size of droplets generated. The experimental observations are used to formulate a correlation between the droplet size, applied electric field, fluid properties and flow parameters. A mechanistic explanation of droplet formation process using a mathematical model is also presented. Simulations reveal that the droplets are formed primarily due to normal electric stress acting on the liquid-liquid interface. The electric stress results in a distinct feature of pinning and early onset of neck formation of the emerging dispersed phase, leading to a reduction in the size of the droplet formed for the same hydrodynamic conditions. The findings reported demonstrate that an applied electric field has the potential to produce relatively smaller-sized droplets than that possible through hydrodynamics alone.
The present study was conducted at ICAR-Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal research farm to study the effect of no-till planters such as inclined plate planter and broad bed shaper-cum-planter on yield, energetics and economics of maize crop production and compared with conventional practices of maize sowing using seed-cum-fertilizer drill. The maize hybrid variety of DMRH-1303 was sown in kharif season of 2019 using inclined plate planter and broad bed shaper-cum-planter under wheat residue load 8 t/ha (HI-1544). The wheat was harvested by combine harvester and its residue was chaffed using shredder. The actual field capacity and field efficiency of inclined plate planter, broad bed shaper-cum-planter and seed-cum-fertilizer drill were observed as 0.31, 0.32 and 0.39 ha/h and 51.67, 58.18 and 76.47%, respectively. The energy consumption for shredding of wheat straw was 399.31 MJ/ha. The energy consumption was maximum in case of sowing with convention seed drill (1965.30 MJ/ha) including single pass of each cultivator and rotavator, which was followed by broad bed shaper-cum-planter under permanent bed condition (792.39 MJ/ha) and inclined plate planter under permanent bed condition (468.77 MJ/ha). The broad bed shaper-cum-planter and inclined plate planter saved energy consumption by 59.7% and 76.14%, respectively as compared to conventional seed-cum-fertilizer drill.The use of inclined plate planter (Rs. 652 per ha) or broad bed former-cum-planter (Rs. 664 per ha) could save 67% in cost of operation compared to seed-cum-fertilizer drill (Rs. 2017 per ha).
In the present study, quantitative expression of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT)–associated markers was investigated immunohistochemically and their diagnostic and prognostic significance was evaluated in patients diagnosed with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining was performed in a cohort of 65 formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded human urinary bladder tumor tissues. Tissues’ sections were obtained from archives of the Department of Pathology at SGPGIMS, India. Epithelial marker (E-cadherin), mesenchymal markers (N-cadherin and vimentin), and EMT-activating transcription factors (ATFs) (Snail and Slug) were examined for their cellular localization (membranous/cytoplasmic/nuclear) and quantitative expressions in terms of IHC score. Expression of the aforesaid markers was statistically correlated with various clinicohistopathological variables. These variables were obtained from histopathology reports and subsequent follow-up and OPD visits of patients. Impact of these markers was assessed on recurrence-free survival (RFS) in NMIBC cases and progression-free survival (PFS) in MIBC cases. The data was analyzed using SPSS 20.0 software. Focal loss of membranous E-cadherin showed statistical relevance with hematuria and tumor grade ( p < 0.001, p = 0.005: independent sample t test) in MIBC patients. Novel membranous expression of N-cadherin exhibited relevance with hematuria ( p = 0.011, one sample t test) in NMIBC, while membranous expression of vimentin showed correlation with tumor grade and age ( p < 0.001, p < 0.001, one sample t test) in MIBC cases. Nuclear immunopositivity of Snail showed statistical association with tumor grade in both NMIBC and MIBC cases ( p < 0.001, Moses non-parametric test; p < 0.001, one sample t test) and with hematuria in MIBC cases ( p = 0.007, independent sample t test). Additionally, nuclear immunopositivity of Slug showed statistical association with tumor type in NMIBC and tumor grade in MIBC cases ( p < 0.001, Moses non-parametric test; p < 0.001, one sample t test). Kaplan-Meier along with logrank statistics examined association between EMT profile and RFS in NMIBC cases ( p < 0.001). Significant association of EMT biomarkers with clinicohistopathological outcomes may aid urologists to correlate its dynamic functions in urothelial tumorigenesis.
Summary This paper is about syn-rift play correlation from Barmer basin to adjacent extended Cambay basin. Syn-rift plays are highly prolific in Barmer basin while poorly explored in Cambay basin, mainly because of huge post-rift potential. An attempt has been made to correlate syn-rift features of Barmer basin with Camaby basin in terms of hydrocarbon potential.
The present investigation was conducted aiming to assess the genetic analysis and observed that the two genotypes, namely NCOH CAP S-9 & NCOH CAP S-13 produced maximum fruit yield per plant (0.51 kg) due to heaviest average fruit weight and number of fruit per plant. Number of branches per plant and fruit weight showed moderate GCV while, number of fruits per plant and yield per plant exhibited high value of GCV i.e. 40.11 and 48.75 have better scope of improvement. Low heritability (0.92%) accompanied with high genetic advance (29.05) revealed that the trait, number of fruits per plant is governed by additive gene effects and therefore selection based on phenotypic performance may prove useful. The estimates of broad sense heritability values ranging from 0.34% to 0.97% indicated more contribution of dominance and epistatic variances for all the traits under study. Estimates of genotypic, phenotypic and environmental correlation coefficients among the eight characters of local populations under study showed significant positive relation with fruits per plant and fruit weight. Plant height was significantly associated with the branches per plant, fruit length, fruit diameter and total soluble solids. Fruit length was significantly associated with the fruit diameter.
Introduction Obstructive Sleep Apnoea is a common condition and increasing awareness has led to record number of referrals to sleep clinics. East Kent is a large Trust covering a population of more than 800,000 and as such has a large respiratory morbidity and mortality. There are around 3000 referrals for suspected sleep apnoea per year. We have piloted a new type of clinic for patients needing Sleep diagnostics to evaluate its effectiveness in reducing waiting times. Methods All patients had been seen and assessed in the Sleep clinic by a Consultant Respiratory Physician, Nurse Consultant or Registrar in respiratory medicine. They were then invited to attend a session to pick up the equipment for domiciliary sleep study. They either had an appointment for an individual set up, or for a group session (with 5 people in the group). Both sessions were allocated the same amount of time, twenty minutes. Both groups were educated about the sleep study. In the individual session, the technologist demonstrated the method of using the equipment on the patient and answer any questions. In the group session, this was demonstrated on one of the patients, whilst the rest observed and again any questions were answered. Feedback was collected from the patients and technologists. Result A total of 2160 studies were undertaken between 1st August 2018 and 1st June 2019. Out of these 1080 were individual appointments and 1080 were in groups. The individual sessions took a total of 23,600 minutes while the group sessions took 4320 minutes. So, it did reduce waiting times for diagnostics, but this was tempered by a small increase in repeat studies in the second group. The key ingredients for a successful group session are the size of the group, large enough room for them and patients who are agreeable to be in a group. Conclusion With increasing demand for sleep and other resources, all NHS organisations are looking towards systems which improve efficiency without compromising patient care. Sleep diagnostics and education does lend itself to this, if carefully planned and executed
An experiment was conducted at experimental field of Nalanda College of Horticulture, Bihar Agricultural university Sabour (Bhagalpur), Bihar to assess the influence of planting density and varieties on growth and flowering of African marigold (Tagetes erecta L.). The two varieties viz- Pusa Narangi and Pusa Basanti were planted with four spacing 50 x 50 cm, 50 x 40 cm, 50 x 30 cm, 40 x30 cm. and arranged in factorial randomized block design replicated thrice. The data were collected on account of plant height (cm), number of branches/plant, number of flower/plant, flower diameter (cm.), average flower weight (g) and flower yield per plant (kg), per plot (kg) and per hectare (q/ha). It was observed that all the growth and yield attributing traits were significantly influenced due to several treatment and recorded higher values with the wider spacing 50 x 50 cm and 50 x 40 cm., respectively, except, plant height, flower yield/plot and per hectare, which were maximum at closer spacing (40 x 30 cm). Between the varieties, Pusa Narangi recorded maximum number of flowers /plant, flower diameter, flower yield/plant, flower yield/plot and per hectare while, Pusa Basanti produced maximum plant height. The maximum flower yield (q/ha) was recorded with the Pusa Narangi planted at closer spacing 40 x 30 cm (S4V2).
This paper advocates the estimation of population mean using median of study variable through a new generalized estimator under predictive modeling approach. The properties of the proposed estimator are studied up to the approximation of degree one. The proposed estimator is compared theoretically with the competing estimators of population mean. A numerical illustration has also been done to verify the theoretical findings and it has been shown that proposed estimator is best among all competing estimators of population mean of study variable.
In this paper, we focus on the intermediate nodes of network and quantification of level of commodity and its cost on each node because intermediate nodes have stocking capacities which we generally see in the supply chain network. The commodity is supplied from a node to node in response to the power form of demand at a particular time. Since the traffic intensity of the demand of commodity also affects the flow of the commodity in the network, hence study of flow of commodity in the network is believed to be a significant contribution in this area. Several cases of quantifying the level of commodity in different situations as well as the cost analysis of incoming and outgoing commodity at a particular node have been thoroughly discussed in the paper. The present problem, presumably seeks to contribute to managerial decision making in supply chain network.
A field experiment was conducted during, winter seasons 2014–15 and 2015–16 to evaluate the weed management practices in garlic. The experiment was conducted in a split plot design having straw mulch treatments in main plot (0, 5 t/ha and 10 t/ha) and weed control treatment, viz. pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha (pre-emergence), oxyfluorfen 0.223 kg/ha (pre-emergence) manual weeding (2) and weedy check. Application of mulch at 10 t/ha declined the weed population and recorded significantly lower weed density and higher weed control efficiency (71.65 and 75.17%), and higher growth and yield (2.08 and 2.72 t/ha) of garlic as compared to without mulch treatment. Among the weed control measures, application of oxyfluorfen 0.223 kg/ha recorded significantly lower weed density (55.9 and 70.89 m2) and higher growth and yield (2.05 and 2.53 t/ha) of garlic as compared to weedy check, but it was at par with pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha application. Maximum BCR (1.19 and 2.18) was recorded under the paddy straw mulch applied at 10 t/ha and oxyfluorfen 0.223 kg/ha (1.11 and 2.14) as pre-emergence application.
Brachial plexus is a complicated network of nerves formed by fusion and splitting. Variations in the brachial plexus occur at the level of roots, trunks, cords and branches emanating from these structures. We observed a rare variation of formation of upper trunk of brachial plexus in upper right limb of female cadaver aged 70 years. This variation was observed in one limb out of total 28 limbs constituting 3.6%. The rare finding has great diagnostic and therapeutic implications and is of utmost use to anestheologists, radiologists, orthopaedic surgeons and anatomists.
Background: Entamoeba histolytica is an important cause of amoebic liver abscess (ALA) in humans, particularly in developing countries. Molecular techniques are increasingly used for the detection of infectious agents in clinical samples with high sensitivity and specificity. The present study has been planned to investigate the utility of Loop mediated isothermal amplification for the detection of E. histolytica/E. dispar in suspected cases of amoebic liver abscess. Methods & Materials: A total of 138 pus samples were collected from the suspected patients of ALA who attended emergency medical OPD/Liver clinic of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh/Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector-32 Chandigarh from November 2013 to November 2014. Pus samples of liver abscess were obtained by ultrasound guided aspiration and subjected for diagnostic evaluation using Loop mediated isothermal amplification and Real time PCR for the detection of E. histolytica/E. dispar. ELISA was performed for the detection of anti-Entamoeba IgG antibodies on the corresponding serum samples. Results: The M:F ratio of the recruited patients was 16.1:1. Loop mediated isothermal amplification detected E. histolytica DNA among 58 of 133 (43%) pus samples as compared to Real time PCR which detected 28 of 133 (21.66%) pus samples. Anti-Entamoeba antibodies were detected by ELISA in serum of 99% of cases. Conclusion: Thus, loop mediated isothermal amplification proves to be a promising diagnostic tool in providing direct detection and confirmatory evidence of amoebic liver abscess in comparison to Real time PCR and antibody detection by ELISA.
