Performative hactivism is the use of the Internet for expressing extreme political dissent online. It differs from cyber harassment in that performative hactivism is politically motivated. We found that there are contagion and other social effects among hactivists and that hactivism exhibits feature patterns that define them as subcultures. To conduct our research, we created a provocative Website and blog and then promoted it on the Internet. Using sentiment analyses and logistic regression, we identified features associated with performative hactivism. We then studied the blog remarks and used Website analytics to gain a better understanding of the implications for business security. The results from this work should help business and information security researchers especially in social engineering, as well as business practice managers, strategists, and security analysts, to predict the lifecycles and impacts of hactivism on their operations and assist them in the creation of interventions.
In an effort to dwarf seed orchard trees without reducing fruitfulness, nine growth-retardant chemicals were applied at several concentrations each as either aqueous foliar sprays or oil-based bark bands. All treatments which significantly retarded growth also caused injury or death. Mefluidide, as a 0.7% foliage spray, reduced growth and caused only minimal injury. Effects of the chemicals on seed production could not be observed, as no control or treated trees flowered. Slash pine was more sensitive to the chemicals than loblolly pine.
Longleaf pine (Pinuspalustris Mill.), although it has many excellent qualities, is not extensively planted because of its extended seedling "grass stage" accompanied by poor field survival. Treatments with cytokininlike substances in spring and early summer stimulated seedling height growth, and this effect was enhanced by gibberellic acid (GA3) and DPX 3778, an experimental triazinone derivative that is synergistic with gibberellins. The synthetic cytokinin benzyladenine and other active purine derivatives, although potent, tended to cause bud proliferation and death. A seaweed extract with cytokinin activity, Cytex, proved effective without the deleterious side effects. A promising technique is thus to apply combination sprays of Cytex, GA3, and DPX 3778 in the nursery to stimulate height growth during the 1st year in the field.

About 50% of hardwood sycamore (Platanusoccidentalis L.) cuttings taken in late fall from mature trees rooted after cold storage and chemical treatments. Best results were obtained by treating cutting bases with auxins, a fungicide, and powdered sucrose followed by 1 month of cold storage. Rooting was correlated with vegetative vigor of the ortet. The correlation did not increase when ortet age was included with vigor in the regression equation.
