Purpose: This review examines the potential of social media-based support networks in reducing caregiver burnout within home health care settings. As home-based caregiving continues to increase due to population ageing and the growing prevalence of chronic illnesses, informal caregivers often face emotional strain, social isolation, and caregiving burden that may contribute to burnout. Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Twenty-eight empirical studies published between 2010 and 2024 were identified and analysed through narrative synthesis to explore the relationship between online support engagement and caregiver well-being. Findings: The reviewed studies suggest that social media platforms, including online communities and peer-support forums, offer various forms of support, such as emotional reassurance, informational guidance, and shared caregiving experiences. Although only a limited number of studies directly assessed caregiver burnout using validated instruments, many reported improvements in coping ability, perceived social support, and psychological well-being among caregivers participating in online support networks. The evidence further indicates that digital support is most effective when combined with existing offline support systems. Research Limitations: The findings should be interpreted with caution due to variations in research design, reliance on self-reported data, and the limited number of longitudinal studies. The lack of standardised burnout measures across studies also restricts direct comparison of outcomes. Practical Implications: Social media-based support networks may serve as an accessible and cost-effective resource for supporting informal caregivers in home health care contexts. Integrating digital peer-support mechanisms into caregiver assistance programmes could help strengthen caregiver resilience and improve overall well-being. Originality/Value: This review contributes to the emerging discussion on digital caregiving support by consolidating recent evidence on how online social support networks may help address challenges associated with caregiver burnout in home health care environments.
The purpose of the study is to understand the relationship between stress, burnout, and interpersonal conflicts among hospital nurses in Karnataka, India. The authors propose, in an Affective Events Theory (AET) perspective, that high stress and burnout are antecedents of interpersonal conflicts. A quantitative research method was used, and 636 nurses participated in responding to the stress, burnout, and interpersonal conflict questionnaire. Factorial and regression analyses were used to analyze data, which indicated a significant positive association among stress, burnout, and interpersonal conflict. The investigation suggests stress and burnout are powerful predictors of interpersonal conflict. To prevent the impact of stress and burnout on nursing staff, as well as to ensure a healthy work environment, the study highlights the need for effective interventions, including stress management strategies and policy changes.
In this research, the intricate relationship between mental health and social media is examined. Although social media offers many benefits, such as enhancing knowledge accessibility and fostering meaningful connections, its growing use also presents considerable risks to mental health. This abstract includes details on heightened anxiety, sadness, and diminished self-esteem. Social comparison, online abuse, and FOMO are frequently linked to these illnesses. Numerous concepts have been put forward to deal with these adverse consequences. Mental health counselling (CBT), educating people the way to use media properly and organised social interactions in the real world are all part of the mixed-methods approach. System dynamics simulations and weekly psychology tests are also used to support the approach. Over six weeks, participants in the study had considerable improvements in all outcome measures compared to the control group, including anxiety (which decreased by 30.6%), depression (which decreased by 33.3%), and self-esteem (which increased by 25.4%). The uniqueness and efficacy of this method in connecting theoretical suggestions with practical, scalable solutions are validated by a comparative SOTA study. To promote healthy digital behaviour and improve psychological well-being within the ever-more-connected society, this study offers a verified, data-driven plan of action.
Orphan drugs are medications that are produced for the treatment of rare diseases. As there is less number of patients, the drug manufacturing companies are not keen in producing these drugs. Due to high costs of research and development and low profitability, companies do not want to invest in manufacturing of orphan drugs. Several laws have been passed by Governments of different nations to encourage the development of orphan drugs and make it available to patients. This study explores the interrelation dynamics of factors that has resulted in the greater availability of orphan drugs in recent times. Ten factors: internet technology, legislation, online patient support groups, government subsidiary, biotechnological advancements, corporate social responsibility, awareness and diagnosis of rare diseases and exclusive budgeting by pharmaceutical industries for orphan drugs related research and development and production were taken for the study. With a sample size of 38 experts, the technique of decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) was used for the study. It was found that information technology, legislation, support groups, and budget were the causes and the factors awareness, diagnosis, medicine availability, subsidiary, CSR and biotechnology emerged to be the effect. This study investigates consumer risk perceptions regarding online pharmacies and their impact on usage frequency and satisfaction. The growing popularity of online pharmacies offers benefits such as accessibility, cost savings, and privacy. However, significant risks, including the potential for counterfeit drugs and insufficient medical oversight, raise concerns. This study has measured consumer perceptions of risk, satisfaction, and usage frequency through a survey conducted in Northeast India, excluding Sikkim (online) and Sikkim (offline). The findings reveal that the fear of receiving counterfeit medications is a significant risk factor, negatively influencing both the frequency of use and consumer satisfaction. Despite this, the impact is relatively weak, suggesting that while risk perception is a concern, it does not significantly deter online pharmacy usage. The study suggests that integrating advanced technologies such as IoT, RFID, and blockchain can mitigate these risks by ensuring the authenticity of medications in the supply chain.
Disease-specific online patient support groups have emerged predominantly in last 30 years, and these are being visited by a large number of patents. These platforms obviously bring important benefits to the patients visiting them. An important variable is the perceived social support that patients feel they derive while interacting with healthcare providers and fellow patients over there. Patient empowerment is another variable, and which has been found to be a critical factor in overall well-being of patients. How does the perceived social support felt by patients visiting an online patient support group impact their perceived empowerment? This paper explores this question. Research design is associative, and for which the data has been procured online from the patients visiting online patient support groups. The questionnaire comprises of an independent variable (perceived social support) and a dependent variable (patient empowerment). Validated scales have been used. For analysis, a factor analysis was undertaken to reconfirm the validity of the scales. Thereafter, regression equation has been developed to measure the impact. Results show that the model obtained passes the fitness and the independent variable has a significant positive association with patient empowerment.
Social media promotion (SMP) of prescription drugs has increased dramatically in the past two decades. The impact of this new phenomenon (although it is illegal in most countries) of promotion on patient's behavior has not been properly researched. This study aims to understand physician's perception of the impact of SMP on patient's behavior. The sample size is 389. For analysis, Pearson correlation and regression have been used. It is clear from the study that SMP has an impact on both patient's negative behavior and the patient-physician relationship. Governments and physicians should be aware that proper guidelines are required to guide patients. Also, patients need to understand that physicians and their expertise are key to their treatment.
Branded drug social media promotion (SMP) has increased dramatically in the recent era. The impact of this new phenomenon (although it is illegal in most countries) on patient behaviour has not been thoroughly studied. The purpose of this research is to learn about patients' perceptions of the impact of SMP on their behaviour. The sample size is 380 people. Pearson correlation and regression were used for analysis. The study clearly shows that SMP has an effect on patients' negative behaviour as well as the patient-physician relationship. The government and physicians should be conscious that proper guidelines are needed to guide patients. In addition, patients must understand that physicians and their expertise are critical to their treatment.
Background: Mobile phone users have increased exponentially in the past decade. Present-day mobile phones can serve several functions with the help of applications, also known as apps. There is limited research on mobile application usage for healthcare delivery and health promotion. Purpose: This study evaluates the users’ perception of individuals using m-health apps to identify the reasons for using m-health apps, barriers preventing m-health adoption, and the type of rewards provided by application developers to encourage users. Additionally, this study tests the hypothesis model to assess the effects of social media influence, performance expectancy, and price on behavioral intentions to adopt m-health apps. Methodology: The study is descriptive and cross-sectional. Responses are collected from 192 m-health users selected with the help of a purposive sampling technique. Descriptive and frequency analysis was done with the help of Microsoft Excel 2016. Path analysis and hypothesis testing were done with the help of IBM SPSS V. 25 and Hayes Process Macro 3.5. Results: Primary reasons for using m-health apps included intentions to improve fitness (70.5%), followed by yoga and meditation (25.9%) and teleconsultation (23.2%). The top two barriers hindering the adoption of the m-health app were accuracy concerns (34%) and cost (21%). The variables influencing m-health selection decision include app reviews (40.5%) and ratings (28.8%). It was found that price dampens the relationship between social media influence and performance expectancy with β = −0.25, LLCI = −0.48, ULCI = −0.013, P = 0.03. Practical Implications: M-health app developers and sellers should focus on improving the accuracy of the m-health apps in tracking fitness-related indicators; similarly, to increase the number of users, m-health developers should keep the prices reasonably low to enable interested users get m-health app user experience, scoring high on social media influence and having high-performance expectations. Additionally, m-health app developers should encourage satisfied users to give positive reviews and higher ratings at all sales points. Conclusions: M-health users primarily expect fitness improvement and facilitation in yoga and meditation with calorie monitoring from m-health usage. Social media influence and performance expectancy significantly affect behavioral intentions to use m-health apps. M-health app developers need to keep the prices reasonably low.
There are various misconceptions related to the COVID-19 and the vaccine. This study attempts to identify the role of social media in spreading the misinformation related to COVID-19 and Vaccination. This study will help the agencies to identify the categories of misconceptions and the vaccination-related conspiracy theories dispersed in the social media. In the analysis, seven clusters were found, and the concept map presents seven general misconceptions categories, similarly six subcategories under vaccination related conspiracy theories were found. This study concludes that vaccination related misconception circulated in social media is a serious issue which could affect the vaccination rate severely. Hence a multipronged tactic should be adopted having the components of counter-information strategy, sharing information from authentic sources, educating the general population to go for rigorous review of the information, and improving the health literacy level.
Social media is a new and a dominating means of communication that helps users to communicate with each other through email, images, pictures and music. With Covid-induced disruption, social media could play a key role as a medium for dialogue for health providers, physicians, consultants and health agencies to promote more informed decision making between populations and individuals relevant to health or care. The purpose of the research is to understand how social media is used for collaboration and knowledge sharing of health information and find challenges faced during usage of social media for collaboration and knowledge sharing. The paper is conceptual and is based on literature review. Findings of the study are: the collaboration challenges are its misuse, a large amount of potentially hazardous misinformation, increased pandemic concerns, tendency of doctors to maintain the one-way relationships and confusion in terms of ethical online practices. It also concludes that social media can be effective in this context by instilling health information support, informational support, emotional support, esteem support and network support.
It is illegal in India to promote prescription drugs to patients through social media. On the other hand, some medical social media pages have misused this law. For health-related information, patients are increasingly turning to the Internet, and especially pharmaceutical pages, for help. This article presents various points of view. Differences in perception can lead to more disagreement between patients and doctors, so this is important to address. Around 1500 people and 400 doctors were interviewed. The perspectives of patients and doctors differ significantly. For this reason, patients and doctors work as a team to find health solutions, and their perceptions for the disadvantages of SMP may be so divergent that the association may possibly fail.
networks have long been used to disseminate health-related information and help, and this use has increased with the emergence of online social media. The goal of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of health information in the context of India. The literature available in PubMed is the source of the study. The objective of this paper is to develop a better insight into the literature on social media-based health information using bibliometric analysis in the context of India. The software used for bibliometric analysis is profile research networking software from Harvard University and Vosviewer. From the study, it is clear that social media is important in the context of public health. We also found out that although the number of publications in journals is highest but video-audio content has been cited more. Although there is a significant increase in publication during 2020, but number of researchers are still very few. It is clear that social media is of greater importance for marginalized people; health care providers and regulators must take precautions to avoid possible negative outcomes.

There are many anxieties have been shown and perceived by the experts for SMP of medicines. This procedure of DTCA can be reciprocated, and one of the reason is the platform is uncontrolled; the advantages of the medicines could be exaggerated compared to the disadvantages. Also, patients can share their own experience of using medicine on social networking sites. There is a high probability for the patients to be exposed to ambiguous, contradicting, and confusing information about medicines on social media. Our focal point is to inspect how drug pages in social media influencing the overall population or web-based media clients. We tried to investigate the data available on Facebook pages of popular drugs. Many social media users often go through the content posted on social networking sites. Patients and their family members are likely to be exposed to drug product claims while looking for information about medicines of a specific disease on social media.
