Mit dem ORCID-Standard wurde ein System der persistenten Identifikatoren für Forschende geschaffen. Der Förderung von ORCID in Deutschland widmete sich von 2016 bis 2022 das von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) geförderte Projekt ORCID DE. Dank des Projekts konnte die Anzahl der in Deutschland registrierten ORCID iDs von etwa 44 000 im Jahr 2016 auf 356 800 im Jahr 2024 gesteigert werden. Die Schaffung einer Dialogplattform und der Aufbau eines nationalen Konsortiums sind weitere Erfolge von ORCID DE. Auch wurde die Integration von ORCID in zentrale Standards der Informationsinfrastruktur vorangetrieben und die Vernetzung mit der Gemeinsamen Normdatei (GND) durch verschiedene Verfahren der Vernetzung befördert. Mit der Integration von ORCID in die Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE) wurde die Sichtbarkeit von ORCID in Open-Access-Publikationen gesteigert. Durch den Aufbau des ORCID-DE-Monitors wurde ein Informationssystem zur Verbreitung von ORCID auf internationaler Ebene geschaffen. Der Beitrag beschreibt die Arbeit und Ergebnisse des Projekts und dokumentiert anhand der formulierten ACTION-Prinzipien Anregungen für ähnliche Standardisierungsinitiativen im Bereich der digitalen Informationsinfrastruktur.

Key points The ORCID DE project, from 2016 to 2022, promoted ORCID in Germany through a project‐driven approach. The project promoted the dissemination of ORCID in Germany. The number of IDs registered for Germany increased from approximately 44,000 in 2016 to 300,070 in 2023. The linkage of ORCID with the bibliographic Gemeinsame Normdatei (GND; translated: Integrated Authority File) standard in German‐speaking countries has contributed to the success of ORCID in Germany. The promotion of ORCID in Germany was based on six central areas: information, consortium, standardization, implementation, monitoring, and networking. The ORCID DE Monitor captures and analyses the development of ORCID on a national and international level. The ACTION principles highlight crucial measures in promoting a standard, such as ORCID. ACTION stands for Awareness, ConnectiviTy, IntegratiOn, and Networking.

The ORCID standard established a system of persistent identifiers for researchers. Thanks to the project, the number of ORCID iDs registered in Germany increased from about 44,000 in 2016 to 356,800 in 2024. The creation of a dialogue platform and the establishment of a national consortium are additional achievements of ORCID DE. The integration of ORCID into key standards of the information infrastructure was advanced and its networking with the Integrated Authority File (GND) was enhanced through various methods of connection. Integrating ORCID into the Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE) increased the visibility of ORCID in open access publications. The development of the ORCID DE Monitor created an information system to disseminate ORCID on an international level. The article describes the work and results of the project and documents suggestions for similar standardization initiatives in the field of digital information infrastructure, based on the formulated ACTION principles.

Zusammenfassung ORCID schafft mit Services wie der eindeutigen Verknüpfung von Forschenden und ihren Publikationen die Basis moderner Wissenschaftskommunikation. Das ORCID-Deutschland-Konsortium bietet eine kostenreduzierte ORCID-Premiummitgliedschaft an und unterstützt die Mitglieder bei der erfolgreichen ORCID-Integration. Diese umfasst neben einer Dialogplattform mit deutschsprachigen Informationsmaterialien weitere Supportleistungen. Ein wichtiger Erfolgsfaktor ist außerdem eine umfassende Kommunikationsstrategie der ORCID-Implementierung. Hier können die Mitglieder auf etablierte Kommunikationskanäle innerhalb ihrer Einrichtungen zurückgreifen. Gemeinsam leisten sie mit der Unterstützung des ORCID-DE-Projekts einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur erfolgreichen Verbreitung von ORCID in Deutschland.
