Aircrafts and cars are made of composites to lighten their weight. Glass fiber reinforced composites due to their high specific strength and specific stiffness have become attractive structural materials. Room temperature cured epoxy was impregnated with Carbon fiber in order to synthesis composites. Carbon fiber is taken in the 3, 5, 7 % weight in order to suspend on epoxy resin with different fiber lengths such as 1, 2, and 3 cm. The variations of mechanical and thermal properties on Carbon fiber–epoxy composites with different fiber lengths have been studied. Thermal properties such as TGA and DSC are studied to investigate the influence of change in fiber length on Carbon fiber– epoxy composites. Significant improvement in tensile and flexural strengths of Carbon fiber–epoxy composites has been observed by the different lengths of the fiber. The results that by taking epoxy 95 % and carbon fiber 5 % as constant with different fiber lengths were increased the mechanical and thermal properties compared with different fiber content in weight percentage. The lengths of the fiber are influenced on the improvement of tensile, flexural, and morphology properties.
This paper zero in on preparation of hybrid composites in which Polyester matrix filled with Sanseveria cylindrica fiber(SCF) and Zawa flour. SCF fiber was taken 10% volume constantly in all the samples. Camera ready samples were prepared using hand layup technique in which filler constituent proportions were taken by using rule of hybrid mixture (RoHM). The mail aim of the composites is to increase the tensile flexural, and impact strengths, TGA, DSC results by incorporating the filler. It was observed that, tensile strength was linearly increased up to 4wt.% zawa after that sudden falling was observed. On other hand, tensile modulus was increased linearly up to 5wt.% was the clear indication of addition of zawa imparts more stiffness to the composites. Flexural strength was increased up 3wt.% zawa flour after than it starts depreciating suddenly. Flexural modulus was increased linearly up to 3wt.% zawa four composites after that decreases. Impact strength was optimised at 4wt.% zawa flour after that it starts going down. In DSC analysis, for 3wt.% zawa flour composite registered good performance than the 2wt.%,whereas in TGA analysis 3wt.% composite was having good performance than 2wt.% zawa flour composites. Reasons attributed for increased glass transition temperature was due to the less moisture content or due to the deprived of void due to the good bonding strength
This paper presents studies on experimental values of tensile strength properties of hybrid nanocomposites were studied and compared with theoretical values. It was observed that, experimental strengths were fallen shorter than the theoretical values. Nanocomposites were fabricated by filling MMT nanoclay by weight ratio and reinforced with short sansevieria trifasciata (STF) and short carbon fibre (CF) by randomly orientation. Organically modified montmorillonite clay filled with different proportions viz.0, 1, 3 and 5 wt.% dispersed into the vinyester matrix modified system by hand lay-up technique. Natural fiber was treated by NaOH solution was brought significant performance. Tensile strength was found maximum when clay content was Clay 3wt%. In the fracture surfaces of samples were analysed by SEM analysis, in which it was observed that, increased clay viscosity played vital role in bringing the performance as the viscosity of the mixture made difficult to flow the resin. Thermal stability was significantly improved for the 5wt% sample due to the high content of silicate particles and carbon fibre content.
Room temperature cured epoxy was impregnated with coir fiber in order to synthesis composites. Coir fiber is taken in the 3&5% weight in order to suspend on epoxy resin. Two different proportions of Silicon / Coir fiber hybrid composites were prepared by incorporated into the Epoxy as the core material using rule of hybrid mixtures (RoHM). Mechanical properties like flexural strength and modulus, tensile strength and modulus and morphological properties were also studied. Composites were prepared using hand layup technique in presence of hot compression molding technique. The mechanical properties of Silicon / Coir fiber hybrid composites were investigated with reference to the relative weight of Silicon and Coir fiber. The chemical resistance of hybrid composites with and without alkali treatments has been studied. Variation of a fore mentioned mechanical properties and chemical resistance has been studied with different combinations of Silicon and coir fiber as reinforced into epoxy matrix. Fiber, filler reinforced plastics have replaced the metals in Aerospace, Marine, Chemical and Transport industries. Fiber, filler reinforced plastic have gained recognition as structural material. The most important reason for replacing composite materials is that, substantial weight saving can be achieved and strength to weight, and stiffness to weight ratios are superior to the conventional materials of aircraft structures such as aluminum alloy. Composites are materials based on the controlled distribution of one or more materials, termed as reinforcement, in a continuous phase of second materials, called the matrix. The reinforcement is added to provide strength and stiffness to a composite. The matrix is also known as ‘Binder’ material.
Poly (lactic acid)/clay nanocomposites were prepared by solution-casting and melt-blending techniques, and their morphologies and mechanical properties were studied. In morphology studies revealed an intercalated–exfoliated mixed structure for the nanocomposites obtained by both techniques. SEM images show a good clay dispersion degree. Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS here after called) is used to modify the MMT Clay to improve the surface characteristic of the clay. The mechanical properties of nanocomposites from the melt-blending technique were superior to those obtained by solution-casting method. In both cases, the highest elongation at break and Young’s modulus were achieved at 5wt% SLS-montmorillonite SLS-MMT content.
