Mountain flightless weevil Graptus weberi was previously known from literature data from seven regions of western Ukraine. Only three of them (Zakarpattia, Lviv, Chernivtsi) were convincingly documented, as specific localities were indicated for them. The finding of this species in Ivano-Frankivsk Region confirms the available data on its distribution in the Carpathian mountain range. The information on the distribution of G. weberi east of the Carpathians up to and including Vinnytsia Region needs to be confirmed
Information about the first record of Polydrusus viridicinctus in Cherkasy Region of Ukraine is provided. Previously, the species was known to exist in the western part of Ukraine and in Odesa Region, and erroneously recorded from Dnipropetrovsk Region. 4 figs, 45 refs.
Actuality. Considering the fact that some representatives of weevils damage agricultural crops and forest plantations, while others are phytophages of wild plants and weeds, it is advisable to study their species composition and distribution in agrocenoses. Problem. Investigations of the species composition of weevils in the fields of the Odesa State Agricultural Research Station of the NAAS. Methods. Counting of weevils was carried out according to generally accepted methods. Selection of herpetobiont insects was carried out using Barber’s traps, hortobionts – mowing with an entomological net. Results. In 2022, 18 species of weevils were registered in the fields of winter pea and winter wheat of the Odesa State Agricultural Research Station of the IKOA of the NAAS, of which five were found that had not previously been noted in the Odesa region: Ethelcus denticulatus (Schrank, 1781), Stenocarus cardui (Herbst, 1784), Gymnetron rotundicolle (Gyllenhal, 1838), Hypera melancholica (Fabricius, 1792), Hypera viciae (Gyllenhal, 1813). New record of Alcidodes karelinii (Boheman,1844) is published after 12 years.
A new genus and species are described from the Eocene Baltic amber: Archaeoluprops groehni gen. et sp. nov. This fossil darkling beetle of the subfamily Lagriinae (Tenebrionidae) is externally similar to species of the tribes Lupropini and Goniaderini having the robust pubescent body and estriate elytra, but differs in the absence of intersegmental membranes between abdominal ventrites 3-5 (tentyrioid hinging) and accordingly the primary absence of defensive glands. Combination of plesiomorphic and apomorphic characters and other differences from all extinct and extant lagriine tribes allows to establish the new tribe Archaeolupropini trib. nov. (type genus Archaeoluprops), which is probably a basal group in relation to the non-basal clade Lagriini-Chaerodini-Lupropini-Pycnocerini-Goniaderini-(probably Gonialaenini) + Laenini. All Baltic amber lagriine tribes are absent in extant faunas of middle latitudes of Europa.
A new lymexylid fossil species, † Raractocetus sverlilo Nazarenko, Perkovsky & Yamamoto, sp. nov. , is described from late Eocene Rovno amber of Ukraine. This new species is similar to species of the recent genera Atractocerus Palisot de Beauvois and Raractocetus Kurosawa in the ship-timber beetle subfamily Atractocerinae, but differs in pronotal and elytral features. Notably, the new species is one of the smallest atractocerines known to date. This is the first member of the family Lymexylidae found in Rovno amber. Our finding sheds further light on the paleodiversity of atractocerine beetles, highlighting a peculiar distribution during the Eocene. Only one extant atractocerine specimen has been reported from Europe (Greece), while three species from Eocene European amber forests with equable climate are known now, including two species from the otherwise tropical genus Raractocetus . Our finding of the Raractocetus beetle from Rovno amber is of significant biogeographically because it indicates the wide distribution of the genus in the Eocene European amber forests.
The beetle Ceutorhynchus is used as a proxy for Eocene core Brassicaceae. The age of Brassicaceae has been strongly debated because their fossil record is scanty. There are four species of Ceutorhynchus inaffectatus species-group known in the Priabonian: Ceutorhynchus zerovae new species in Rovno amber and three in Baltic amber. There are numerous extant members of the group, all of which feed on core Brassicaceae. Together with differentiation of Brassicaceae-feeding Pierinae (Lepidoptera) in the Priabonian, the strong presence of Ceutorhynchus indicates at least an early Priabonian age of core Brassicaceae. The oldest fossil Brassicaceae is not known in the late Eocene of Europe, but was recorded in Montana, dated in some studies as late Oligocene, but recently as Priabonian (34 Ma). The false flower beetle Cyrtanaspis kerneggeri Perkovsky et Odnosum sp. nov. is described from Baltic amber. The new species is similar to the extant C. phalerata, from which it differs in the absence of a hair pattern on the elytra and pronotum, in the subsecuriform last palpomere, and the shape of antennomeres; it differs from C. sauteri in the elytral shape.
Th e clonal structure of populations of the weevil Eusomus ovulum Germar, 1824 (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) from several regions of Ukraine was analyzed. Th e signifi cant diff erentiation between populations from dif-ferent region was demonstrated. Th e hypothesis of multiple origins of the hybrid form E. ovulum from several parental species is proposed.
The first record of Acallocrates colonnellii in central part of Ukraine is given. The species was so far known in Ukraine from the Carpathians (Lviv Region).
Paratractocerus gusakovi gen. et sp. nov. is described from Baltic amber. It is similar to species of Atractocerus Palisot de Beauvois, 1801 s.l. but differs in the relatively long elytra reaching the hind trochanters, absence of the maxillary palp organ and less modified antennae.
The first record of Parameira setosa in Kyiv Region is published. The species was known formerly from Odesa and Sumy regions only.
Species composition, the ecological structure and the occurrence characteristics of weevils (Curculionoidea) in the stratobios of the main urban habitats of Kharkiv were studied. 59 species from 41 genera and three families were registered. Curculionoidea comprises 31.5% of the coleopterofauna of stratobios. Approximately 10 species are attributed to dominants (2–3 species are eudominants). 40 species are ranked as random and 9 species are rare. 4 species of Curculionoidea (Cyanapion columbinum, Curculio rubidus, Otiorhynchus albidus, Tropiphorus micans) are recorded for the first time in the Left bank forest-steppe zone of Ukraine. The values of the main indices of species diversity were low, which may indicate a significant oligodominance of Curculionoidea in all urban habitats. Most of species are herba- and dendrobionts (14–17), but almost all of them are registered as random (27) or rare (4) elements. 26 species associated with stratobios (among which most dominants elements are recorded). Species associated with meadows (21) and forests, or eurytopic species (14) are dominants in the samples; by trophic links – oligo- (32) and polyphagous species (24 ) were prevailed. 45 species prefer mesophilic habitats. The number of eurytopic mesophilous polyphagous stratogeobionts were maximal. The largest number of species (25–33) were documented in vegetation of the outskirts and household plots of city compared to the city parks and plantings of the center (18–19), but minimumly (12) in forest. The spectrum of ecological groups was also minimal in a forest, but the maximum is in the plantings of periphery and household plots of the city. Faunistic similarity was slightly more than 0.20, which may indicate specific and significant differences in the species composition of weevils in different urban habitats of Kharkiv.
A total of 54 species in 35 genera of Curculionidae are registered in the urbocenoses of Kharkiv city. Only three species, Exomias pellucidus, Otiorhynchus raucus and Ot. ovatus, are recorded as dominants. Some other species (Urometopus nemorum, Sciaphobus squalidus and Glocianus punctiger) are sporadically noted in some sites as subdominants. The total number of species turned out to be higher in the herpetobios of plantings at periphery (31), slightly lower in private farmlands of the city (21), parks and plantings of the center (17 each), but minimal in suburban forests (11 species). The highest quantity of specimens were observed for the plantations of the center and margins of city: nevertheless, minimal quantity of specimens was registered at parks and woods. The maximum number of species (including all cenoses) was recorded from the end of April to first decade of May (28 species). From May to the end of June 15–18 species were registered. Ten species were recorded at July, and only six species at August. A slight rise was noted from the end of August to mid-September (11 species). In biotopes where Exomias pellucidus appeared to be the monodominant, the seasonal dynamic density of weevils reached a peak at late May or early June, but the significant decline was observed from early June to July. At the sites with several dominants, two or three peaks were registered: at spring (May) and at mid-summer (end of June or beginning of July). Furthermore, the number of weevils decreased gradually, but some species of Curculionidae were rather abundant even from the end of summer to September–October. The spring increase is reasoned by high density of species in the genus Otiorhynchus; the peak in early summer (maximum) is caused by the increased activity of majority of dominant species; the autumn peak is also caused by the high number of species of the genus Otiorhynchus. The level of sex index (by the example of E. pellucidus) differed significantly at all plots. It was higher for the plantations at the periphery of the city (0.70), and it was minimal at private farmlands (0.20). Relative conjugacy of sex index and dynamic density were not observed: the maximum abundances of quantity of Curculionidae were recorded 20–30 days earlier than the maximal numbers of the sex index.
An annotated list of new records of 45 weevil species is provided. Hadroplontus litura, Larinus iaceae, Magdalis exarata, Pissodes validirostris, Stereocorynes truncorum, Platystomos albinus, Nanophyes globiformis, Ceutorhynchus dubius, and Dorytomus suratus are registered in Ukrainian Polesia for the first time. 34 species are recorded in the west part of Volynian Polesia (= Volyn Region) for the first time. Total known richness of weevils in Volyn Region is increased by 9%. Currently, the list of Curculionoideae inhabiting Volyn Region includes 386 species and subspecies. Additional data on 11 species rare in Ukraine are given. The west range limit of Asproparthenis foveocollis is extended to Volyn Polesia. Discovery of Asproparthenis vexata in Volyn Polesia confirms coexistence of specific insect assemblages associated with endemic psammophilous flora. An alien Lygniodes bischoffi entered into Ukrainian Polesia presumably from Poland. The hornbeam, Carpinus betulus was detected as a new host plant of Cossonus cylindricus for the first time.
A new species, Homocloeuspopovi sp. nov., is described from Miocene Mexican amber. The new species is similar to H. puncticollis but differs in having the rostrum without a middle carina, and in the transverse carina more curved to the base of the elytra, flattened elytral interstriae, and interstria 5 with a tubercle in the apical quarter. This is the first record of the genus Homocloeus as a fossil.
Abstract The clonal structure of the populations of nine weevil species (family Curculionidae) from central Ukraine was analyzed. Clonal diversity varied extensively among studied species. Th e level of clonal variation of some species (Otiorhynchus ligustici, O. raucus, Liophloeus tessulatus) is high, within some other species (O. tristis, Tropiphorus micans) it is low. Th e constant heterozygosity of lot of genes has been demonstrated that it may be a proof of the hybrid origin of the studied weevil populations. Th e asymmetry of some obtained electrophoretic spectra was observed. Th is can be a consequence of their polyploid nature. Th e signifi cant interpopulation diff erentiation of most of the species studied was demonstrated.

Protoceletes hirtus sp. nov. (Curculionidae: Curulioninae: Acalyptini) from the Late Eocene Rovno amber is described. This is the second fossil of the genus. The new species is close to P. wolfschwenningerae Rheinheimer, 2007 from Baltic amber and differs it in the separated coxae, asymmetrically convex eyes, longer and clearly semierect hairs on the surface, and the longer body.
