This study explores the use of private reading spaces in Lucknow, India, popular among students and young adults preparing for competitive exams. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire from 460 subscribers to examine their demographics, usage patterns, motivations and reasons for choosing these spaces. Most users are young, educated males aged 18-24, mainly living in hostels or rented housing close to the reading spaces, showing how important easy access is for them. Over 75% spend more than 6 hours daily in these spaces, mainly from morning to early afternoon. The main reason for use is exam preparation (92%), with fewer users focusing on academic work, skill-building or personal growth. Key features influencing their choice include quiet surroundings, charging points, comfortable seating and a pleasant atmosphere. These findings highlight the need for public libraries to upgrade infrastructure, extend hours and offer more user-friendly, study-focused environments to support urban learners better.
This study examines trends in retracted Indian business research articles from 2014 to 2023, focusing on various aspects such as the number of retractions, geographical distribution, associated journals and publishers, retraction timelines, reasons for retraction, and the citation impact before and after retraction. Using Scientometric tools, 79 retracted articles were analysed from the Retraction Watch and Scopus databases. The findings reveal a rising trend in retractions, predominantly due to fake peer reviews and plagiarism. Tamil Nadu recorded the highest number of retractions (n=44), with the “Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing” standing out with 17 retractions. Springer emerged as the leading publisher, accounting for 41 retractions. Most retractions occurred within a year of publication, and the articles continue to receive citations even after being retracted. The findings of this study will be beneficial for academic institutions, journal editors, and policymakers aiming to enhance research integrity and mitigate unethical practices in scholarly publishing.
This case study focuses on the status of doctoral-level research in top Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) in India. It investigates trends in doctoral thesis submissions, subject distribution, rights allocation, and completion duration by analysing 10,879 doctoral thesis contributions from nine CFTIs ranked among the top 20 universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of 2024. The findings reveal significant disparities in submission rates and subject focus across institutions, with Technology and Science being the dominant fields. Furthermore, there are notable variations in intellectual property rights policies, with some universities primarily endorsing institutional ownership, while institutions like IIT Guwahati show a higher incidence of author self-ownership. The findings might be of significance to policymakers, doctoral research programme designers, and faculty members in understanding the research focus of CFTI and niche research areas. The study concludes by offering recommendations to enhance the visibility and documentation of doctoral research and suggests reforms in institutional policies to improve ETD submission rates and optimise research dissemination.
The proliferation of journals across disciplines presents a significant challenge for researchers in selecting appropriate venues for manuscript submission. In response, various scholarly publishers have developed web-based journal recommendation tools to assist authors in identifying suitable target journals. This study evaluates ten such tools using a comprehensive, three-tiered framework comprising 133 user interface features across the query interface, recommendation page, and venue details page. Multiple Correspondence Analysis was employed to cluster tools based on shared features. The findings reveal that tools such as Journal Guide, Elsevier Journal Finder, and Edanz Journal Selector offer a relatively broader range of features, while JANE exhibits distinct characteristics. These tools provide overlapping as well as unique functionalities, offering researchers diverse options for journal selection. A comparative table is presented to aid research support librarians in guiding authors based on specific needs. The study has practical implications for developers, publishers, and research support librarians, who play a vital role in guiding researchers through the publication process. By understanding the capabilities of these tools, librarians can effectively incorporate them into library instruction, consultations, and research support services. This research contributes to the scholarly communication literature and underscores the value of collaboration between libraries, developers, and publishers.

Academic library portals offer round-the-clock access to a vast array of digital resources including books, journals, e-resources, and other collections. These portals also provide external links to information and services, making them a one-stop solution for all library resources. The effectiveness of these portals in providing access to relevant and timely information can be compromised by an improper content, lack of organization, navigation, and accessibility. Therefore, the need for a framework for evaluating the contents of academic library portals in terms of the availability of information on various categories has become essential. This paper proposes an evaluation framework to assess academic library portals, which offer 24/7 access to digital resources. The framework assesses the availability of information across five categories. It is developed based on responses from a questionnaire sent to Library and Information Science Professionals. The framework provides weight percentages for each checklist item and category weight percentages. It can serve as a standardized tool to prioritize the development efforts of library portals and as a means of comparing and evaluating academic library portals across institutions.
The study systematically reviews the studies based on a search of published articles from 2010 to 2021 on library service quality with the aim of determining which models of service quality are the most commonly used by librarians as a means of measuring service quality. In addition, the paper makes an effort to determine the variety of dimensions by which these qualitative evaluations were carried out, the types of libraries that have reported such qualitative studies, and the data collection strategies (research population, sample size and data collection instruments) adopted by the authors. The findings indicate that the SERVQUAL and LibQual models are the most frequently adopted models. The empathy, reliability, tangible, assurance, responsiveness, effect of library, information control and library as place are the prominent dimensions. The researchers rely heavily on questionnaire-based survey research methods with sample sizes of less than 100 respondents, mostly reported in academic libraries.
Assessing metadata is of paramount importance for several critical reasons. Metadata plays a pivotal role in various aspects, including data retrieval and search, data organization, interoperability, data preservation, and the overall user experience. The purpose of this scoping review is to identify the most commonly measured dimensions of metadata quality in existing studies on metadata quality assessment. The study also investigates the types of data sources and countries contributing most to the literature on metadata quality assessment and the types of documents used to communicate their findings. The methodology involves the application of PRISMA model for qualitatively evaluating 55 studies on metadata quality assessment. The co-occurrence analysis is made on the title and abstract of selected articles using VOSviewer 1.6.18 version, visualization software. The review found that completeness, accuracy, consistency, accessibility, conformance, provenance, and timeliness are commonly used dimensions in metadata quality assessment. However, there is no consensus on their exact definition and measurement, indicating a need for further investigation into less commonly assessed quality dimensions. Digital repositories and open government data are the most commonly studied data sources, with the United States being the leading contributor and journal articles being the most commonly used document type. The cluster analysis based on co-occurrence of terms in title and abstract found three research areas, “Metadata Quality Assessment,” “Metadata Quality Dimensions,” and “Metadata Quality Applications, Frameworks, and Approaches” as prominent areas of research. The originality of the study lies in its methodology that involves rigorous screening of articles on metadata quality. It is a first attempt to qualitatively synthesize literature on metadata quality. The article emphasizes the importance of metadata quality research and the need to improve the flexibility of metadata quality assessment tools to facilitate better metadata quality assurance measures.

The process of developing the semiotic scale involves creating user personas, conducting a comprehensive semiotic analysis, and engaging in productive collaboration with experts. Through meticulous evaluation and refinement, achieved by expert assessments and user testing, the scale offers actionable insights for guiding interface enhancement. The study's findings encompass a breadth of revelations, including user needs, user personas, outcomes of semiotic analysis, criteria development, and evaluation results across a diverse range of library software interfaces. Serving as a valuable tool for interface designers, the semiotic scale facilitates the alignment of design choices with user preferences and requirements. Its inherent adaptability ensures applicability across a spectrum of library software interfaces. The study's paramount contribution lies in bridging the gap between theoretical semiotics and practical design considerations. We examined literature on Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) subsequent to its genome release, spanning years 1999–2020. We employed scientometric mapping, entity mining, visualization techniques, and PubMed and PubTator databases. Most popular keywords, most active research groups, and growth in quantity of publications were determined. By gathering annotations from the PubTator, we determined direction of research in the areas of drug hypersensitivity, drug resistance (AMR), and drug-related side effects. Additionally, we examined the patterns in research on Mtb metabolism and various forms of tuberculosis, including skin, brain, pulmonary, extrapulmonary, and latent tuberculosis. SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, posed a significant threat to the world. We analyzed COVID-19 dissemination data in the top ten Indian provinces by infection incidences using the Susceptible-Infectious-Removed (SIR) model, an Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) time series model, a machine learning model based on the Random Forest, and distribution fitting. Outbreaks are expected to continue if the Basic Reproduction Number (R0) > 1, and infection waves are anticipated to end if the R0 < 1, as determined by the SIR model. Different parametric probability distributions are also fitted. Data collected from December 12, 2021, to March 31, 2022, encompassing data from both before and during the implementation of strict control measures. Based on the estimates of the model parameters, health agencies and government policymakers can develop strategies to combat the spread of the disease in the future, and the most effective technique can be recommended for real-world application for other outbreaks of COVID-19. The best method out of these could be also implemented further on the epidemiological data of other similar infectious agents.
PurposeThe purpose of this study was to perform sentiment analysis and analyze the growth and popularity of Drupal, Joomla and WordPress on YouTube over a four-year period. This included identifying the most liked and commented videos for each content management system (CMS), ranking the CMSs based on the number of positive comments they received, and using natural language processing techniques to identify the top ten most frequently appearing words in videos about the CMSs.Design/methodology/approachThe data for assessing the features of the videos of Drupal, WordPress and Joomla was extracted using Webometric Analyst version 4.4. with the help of the YouTube application programming interface key for videos on the selected CMSs uploaded from 2019 to 2022. The extraction of comments and sentiment analysis for the relevant videos was done using Mozdeh.FindingsThis study scrutinized 371, 234 and 313 videos of WordPress, Joomla and Drupal on YouTube. The findings reveal that there is a chronological growth of videos of the three CMSs in four years and till the present time, WordPress has the highest number of videos followed by Drupal and then Joomla. Regarding the ranking of highly liked videos, WordPress again wins the list with the highest number of likes in its videos followed by Drupal and then Joomla. For analyzing sentiments of the total comments extracted 123,409 for WordPress, 1,790 for Joomla and 1,783 for Drupal, respectively, WordPress receives the highest average positive comments followed by Drupal then Joomla. In top word frequency, the word "thank" highly occurs and viewers are asking for more tutorial videos.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is the first attempt for analyzing the sentiments of WordPress, Drupal and Joomla using Mozdeh software within the concerning period.
PurposeVaccine hesitancy is a long-standing issue among both the general population and health communicators. This study aims to ascertain the inclination and the reasons for vaccine hesitancy by conducting content analysis and sentiment analysis of the perspectives expressed in comments on videos related to vaccine hesitancy uploaded from India on YouTube.Design/methodology/approachThe assessment of the sentiments of the vaccine-hesitant population is done using Valence Aware Dictionary and sEntiment Reasoner sentiment analysis module implemented with Python's NLTK library to automatically determine the sentiments of the comments. Manual content analysis was performed on 60.09% viewer comments randomly selected from the total comments in 238 videos on vaccine hesitancy originated from India and labelled each comment with labels "Anti", "Pro", "Confused", "Not Applicable" and "Unrelated" labels.FindingsThe study found "Mistrust-Government policies", "Fear-health related consequences", "Mistrust-Scientific research", "Vaccine effectiveness and efficacy" and "Misinformation/myths" as the top five determinants for vaccine hesitancy, whereas "Religious beliefs", "Fear-Economic consequences", "Side Effects- short-term" and "Fear-mode of administration" found to be the lesser cited reasons for vaccine hesitancy. However, the study also investigates changes in the inclination of Indian commenters towards vaccine hesitancy and revolving issues over time.Social implicationsPublic health policymakers and health communicators may find the study useful in determining vaccine hesitancy factors in India.Originality/valueThe originality of this study lies in its approach. To date, no sentiment analysis has been conducted on the content released on YouTube by Indian content creators regarding pro- and anti-vaccination videos. This inquiry seeks to fill this research gap.
PurposeThis paper compares the web accessibility of Indian museum websites assessing the level of compliance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1). The study aims to assess the accessibility of Indian museum websites in terms of their severity.Design/methodology/approachThe accessibility evaluation of 11 Indian museum websites was conducted using Siteimprove Accessibility Checker (SAC), an automated website testing tool.FindingsThe study results indicate that the mean conformance score for the Indian museum websites for level A was 19.27, while for level AA and AAA, it came out to be 2.63 and 4.09, respectively, with the highest severity scores for error (16.3) followed by review (5.81) criteria and warning (3.81). The major findings indicate that the websites of Indian museums poorly conform to web accessibility guidelines.Practical implicationsThe study's findings will assist the museum's website creators, managers and administrators in determining the level of conformity as per standard accessibility guidelines helping them make strategic decisions to improve the accessibility.Originality/valueMost of the studies available in the field of website accessibility range from the web accessibility of educational institutions, tourism websites, municipal websites and ministerial websites, but there are very few studies investigating the accessibility of museum websites. A quantitative evaluation of different aspects of accessibility was conducted in the study, which can pave the way for the better design of web sites by addressing deficiencies.
This study compares attributes (authors, journals, populations, theories, methods) of information seeking behavior studies based in the United States and India, based on a search of published articles from 2011 to 2020 in relevant information science databases. The findings indicate major differences in information behavior research among the two countries. Information behavior research in the United States tends to focus more on health and medicine-related research populations, employ greater use of information behavior theories, and use a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods (as well as mixed methods). Information behavior research in India tends to focus more on general populations, use less theory, and rely heavily on quantitative research methods—particularly questionnaires (88% of studies). These findings suggest a healthy and intellectually-diverse information behavior research area in the United States and ample room for growth of the research area within India.
Purpose The purpose of the study is to evaluate certain characteristics of the videos of the software Koha and DSpace posted on YouTube. Since YouTube has the potential to provide the content creator to share their knowledge and experience through their content which has become much more beneficial to the information seeker. Nowadays, people search for queries or tutorial videos on YouTube very often to earn a better understanding of the term. Sentiment analysis of the viewers' opinion of the videos is another purpose of this study. Design/methodology/approach Dataset for evaluating the characteristic of the videos of Koha and DSpace was extracted by using Webometric Analyst by creating YouTube API. Once retrieval of data was completed, a manual verification was enhanced to filter out spam videos unrelated to the scope. After the confirmation of authentic relatable videos, seeking the video's id as query, the comments per video were extracted using Webometric Analyst. For opinion mining, the Parallel Dots API web service was used in Google Sheets as an addon function. The sentiment, multilingual sentiment, emotion, intention and word frequency of the viewers' opinion was examined with the help of certain default functionalities. Findings Webometric Analyst extracted a total of 461 and 397 videos of Koha and DSpace, respectively, uploaded on the YouTube platform. The findings of the study indicate that the growth rate of videos on Koha is decreasing, while the number of videos uploaded on DSpace is gradually increased in the last 10 years. The highest number of videos posted in 1–20 min duration category with mostly high definition (HD) with standard YouTube license and prominently in the English language. The sentiment analysis of the total extracted comments on Koha and DSpace videos found to be 2043 and 862 comments, respectively, among whom “Positive” comments are mostly found and with “Happy” emotion can be highly detected with most supportive “Feedback” intention on both Koha and DSpace videos. The top word frequency signifies that the users of both the software are using the comments section of the videos on YouTube to ask and provide troubleshooting help to each other. Research limitations/implications The present study has some limitations too; the dataset for the study includes only those videos whose title, description or keywords sections had the query terms “Koha” or “DSpace” there are chances that some videos would have been left out from the dataset related to these software. Originality/value This is the first paper to evaluate the characteristics and sentiment of both the videos Koha and DSpace. Through this, the popularity, likeness and dislike and the impact of the contents of the videos uploaded will be disclosed, and creators can make an improvement by referring this, and the seekers will adapt to the use of correct and authentic information.
Digital technology advancements have had a significant impact on how people learn, search for information, and evaluate it. Indian cultural heritage institutions like GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) have also embraced a number of digitisation initiatives to increase access to their wide-ranging art collections. Digital paintings and other cultural heritage information artifacts can facilitate digital humanities research in multiple ways. Using an online content analysis and observation method, this study looks at how metadata elements are used to describe the different art collections in five national museums in India. The study finds that 13 categories of art objects are made available by all the museums. Each category is described by a different number of metadata entry elements. The study also finds the metadata elements that different museums prefer for different types of art objects, as well as the common elements. The findings highlight the need for standardisation in metadata practices to improve the discoverability and accessibility of cultural objects and show how crucial metadata is in facilitating access to cultural objects. The results could help GLAMs create metadata guidelines and strategies for their digital collections, which would make digital art objects more discoverable and accessible.
Purpose The consumption of news from social media is the new trend, still news channels are the authentic source to transmit relevant news to audiences. Social media has gradually left an impact on the audience but the news channels have upgraded and providing various news services online on social media websites. The present study aims to study the type of news videos uploaded by the top five Hindi TV news channels on their YouTube channels with an aim to see which type of videos spark interest for YouTube viewers. Design/methodology/approach By applying the techniques of content analysis, sentiment analysis and text mining the study aims to measure the average sentiments, top words and the trend of selected popular terms in the comments on uploaded news videos by the top five Hindi news channels over a period of one year. Findings Results of the study indicate that the news channels are uploading more news videos about crime and investigation, politics, health and protests while uploading fewer news videos covering travel, science and technology, and religion. While the viewers of the participating news channels are more interested in giving their thoughts or opinions in the form of comments on news videos concerning crime, politics, protests and health or that these videos inspire conversation on YouTube. Research limitations/implications The findings might be of interest to content managers of news channels to understand the interest of their audience. Originality/value The study's distinctiveness resides in the approach utilised to collect data and analyse the results in order to better understand the online behaviour of news channel audiences.
