Self-management is vital for patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) undergoing vitrectomy to reduce complication risks, yet nurse-led tailored support remains insufficient. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a nurse-led self-management intervention on patients’ self-management, diabetes distress, blood glucose, and postural adherence. The study was a randomized, assessor-blind, two-arm, parallel-group exploratory trial. A total of 120 patients with DR undergoing vitrectomy were randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups. The intervention group received the 6-month nurse-led self-management intervention, while the control group received usual care. Baseline data were collected prior to the intervention (T0). Data on the self-management ability, diabetes distress and blood glucose were measured at 1 month (T1), 3 months (T2) and 6 months (T3) after discharge. Postural adherence was assessed within 7 days after discharge. Evaluation of the intervention manual was conducted prior to discharge, and evaluation of the overall intervention program was conducted at 6 months. Outcomes were compared between groups using generalized estimating equations (GEE) based on the intention-to-treat principle. Baseline characteristics showed no statistically significant differences between the two groups. OBJECTIVES:To evaluate the effectiveness and usability of a patient decision aid (PDA) for intraocular lens (IOL) selection in cataract surgery, and to provide insights for promoting shared decision-making (SDM) and enhancing patient decision satisfaction. METHODS:A quasi-experimental study was conducted at an eye specialty hospital in Zhejiang, China. Using convenience sampling, 210 patients were equally allocated to two groups of 105 each. The control group received routine care, whereas the intervention group received the PDA for IOL selection plus routine care. Outcomes were measured using the Preparation for Decision-Making (PrepDM) scale, the 9-item Shared Decision-Making Questionnaire (SDM-Q-9), and the Satisfaction With Decision (SWD) instrument. RESULTS:The statistical analysis demonstrated clear advantages of the intervention over the control across all three measures. On the PrepDM scale, the median score was 60 (IQR 46, 73) and 30 (IQR 20, 68) for the intervention and the control groups, respectively (Z = -4.691, P < 0.001). Performance on the SDM-Q-9 followed a similar pattern, with medians of 77.78 (IQR 71.11,86.67) for the intervention and 68.89 (IQR 20, 84.44) for controls (Z = -4.523, P < 0.001). For the SWD instrument, the intervention group also reported a higher score of 24 (IQR 22, 26) than the control group of 22 (IQR 16, 25) (Z = -4.023, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION:The PDA for IOL selection effectively supports cataract surgery patients, leading to enhanced PrepDM, improved SDM, and increased SWD. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS:Using the PDA for IOL selection can enhance patients' engagement and improve decision quality in cataract surgery.
Background Diabetes distress (DD) constitutes a negative emotional experience for patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR), having a detrimental impact on their physical and mental health.Objective The aim of this study was to understand the current status and influencing factors of DD in patients with DR and to explore the relationship between self-efficacy, coping styles and DD.Design A cross-sectional study.Setting The study was conducted at the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Zhejiang Province, China.Participants Patients diagnosed with DR.Main outcome measures The Diabetes Distress Scale was used to assess DD.Results DD was present in more than half (53.07%) of patients with DR. There were significant differences in DD among patients with DR who reported different employment statuses, modes of residence and body mass index. Coping styles partially mediated the relationship between self-efficacy and DD, with the mediating effect accounting for 71% of the total effect.Conclusion Considering the high prevalence of DD among patients with DR, healthcare professionals should pay more attention to the psychological needs of patients with DR. Effective interventions could be used to promote self-efficacy and coping styles of patients with DR, leading to lower levels of DD.
PURPOSE:This study aimed to verify that aerosolization ocular surface microorganisms (AOSMs) accumulated during non-contact tonometry (NCT) measurements. METHODS:A total of 508 participants (740 eyes) were enrolled in the study. In Experiment 1, before NCT was performed on each eye, the air was disinfected, and environment air control samples were collected via Air ideal® 3P (Bio Merieux). During NCT measurements, microbial aerosol samples were collected once from each eye. In Experiment 2, we collected initial blank control samples and then repeated Experiment 1. Finally, in Experiment 3, after the background microbial aerosol investigation, we cumulatively sampled AOSMs from each 10 participants then culture once, without any interventions to interrupt the accumulation. The collected samples were incubated and identified using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). RESULTS:Pathogenic Aerococcus viridans and other microorganisms from human eyes can spread and accumulate in the air during NCT measurements. The species and quantity of AOSMs produced by NCT measurements can demonstrate an accumulation effect. CONCLUSION:AOSMs generated during NCT measurements are highly likely to spread and accumulate in the air, thereby may increase the risk of exposure to and transmission of bio-aerosols.
Aim: To investigate the influence of early-life factors (Season of birth, premature birth and breastfeeding) on the age at myopia onset. Methods: A total of 331 myopic students aged 18 years or above were recruited from one medical university in Wenzhou, China. Questionnaires were administered to collect data on age at myopia onset, early-life factors, and vision hygiene habits. Participants underwent noncycloplegic autorefraction. Generalized Linear Model was used to analyse the influencing factors of the age at myopia onset, early life factors as independent variables, spherical equivalent, parental myopia and eye hygiene habits as confounding factors into the generalized linear model. Results: In this study, the mean spherical equivalent (SE) of myopic university students was -4.55 +/- 2.19 D, and the mean age at myopia onset was 13.31 +/- 2.64 years old. Subjects born in the summer had a younger age at myopia onset ((3=-1.79, P=0.001); subjects born prematurely tended to have a younger age at myopia onset ((3=-1.50, P=0.011); and breastfeeding was not statistically associated with the age at myopia onset. Conclusion: Season of birth and premature birth were associated with age at myopia onset, and children born in the summer and born prematurely had a younger age at myopia onset.
AIM: To assess glaucoma patient satisfaction and follow-up adherence in case management and identify associated predictors to improve healthcare quality and patient outcomes. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 119 patients completed a Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire-18 and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Clinical data was obtained from the case management system. Follow-up adherence was defined as completing each follow-up within ±30d of the scheduled time set by ophthalmologists during the study period. RESULTS: Average satisfaction scored 78.65±7, with an average of 4.39±0.58 across the seven dimensions. Age negatively correlated with satisfaction (P=0.008), whilst patients with follow-up duration of 2 or more years reported higher satisfaction (P=0.045). Multivariate logistics regression analysis revealed that longer follow-up durations were associated with lower follow-up adherence (OR=0.97, 95%CI, 0.95-1.00, P=0.044). Additionally, patients with suspected glaucoma (OR=2.72, 95%CI, 1.03-7.20, P=0.044) and those with an annual income over 100 000 Chinese yuan demonstrated higher adherence (OR=5.57, 95%CI, 1.00-30.89, P=0.049). CONCLUSION: The case management model proves effective for glaucoma patients, with positive adherence rates. The implementation of this model can be optimized in the future based on the identified factors and extended to glaucoma patients in more hospitals.
PurposeNon-adherence to standard wear, care, and follow-up procedures is a major risk factor for contact lens-related complications. The effectiveness of orthokeratology largely depends on the wearer's adherence. However, a deficiency in scales capturing adherence beliefs pertinent to orthokeratology exacerbates the lack of guidance for effective intervention strategies. The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of a new scale based on the Theory of Planned Behavior that assesses the level of adherence among ortho-k wearers.MethodsThis study involved three stages following the STROBE checklist: (1) developing initial scale items based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, a literature review, and a qualitative study; (2) evaluation of content and face validity; (3) psychometric testing on 296 participants. Item analysis, based on Classical Test Theory, assessed the overall consistency, reliability, and validity of the scale.ResultsThe final 37-item Beliefs about the Orthokeratology Lens Compliance Scale (BOLCS) comprises 11 dimensions. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients for each dimension ranged from 0.560 to 0.798. The folded half reliabilities were 0.845, and the combined reliabilities ranged from 0.676 to 0.793, indicating strong reliability. Item-level CVI (I-CVI) and scale-level CVI/average (S-CVI/Ave) values, assessed by the panel, ranged from 0.71 to 1 and 0.954, respectively. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported a factor structure consistent with the theoretical model.ConclusionsThe scale's construction adhered to a standardized process, yielding preliminary validation results with satisfactory reliability and validity.
AIM: To compare the consistency of two autorefractors (Tianle RM-9000 and Topcon KR-800) for school-age myopia children, and to provide a basis for largescale data analysis and comparison. METHODS: The refractive error in 909 subjects (age 4–18y) were measured using both autorefractors without cycloplegia. The data were analyzed using Fourier decomposition and the correlation coefficients, intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), and Bland-Altman limits of agreement (LoA) for each parameter were calculated. RESULTS: There was a strong correlation between the spherical equivalent (SE), sphere diopter (DS), and cylinder diopter (DC) readings of the Tianle RM-9000 and those of the Topcon KR-800, with correlation coefficient values of 0.98, 0.98 and 0.83 and ICC values of 0.99, 0.99 and 0.93, respectively. However, the correlation coefficients and ICC values of J0 and J45 were unreliable (R=-0.004, -0.034; both ICC<0.10). Bland-Altman analysis revealed that SE, DS, and DC measured by the Tianle RM-9000 were significantly biased toward myopia compared with the Topcon KR-800, and the mean differences were -0.072, -0.026, -0.091 D, respectively (all P<0.01). The minimum absolute value of the difference within the 95% LoA for SE, DS, and DC was 0.63 D, 0.50 D, 0.62 D, respectively; all these values were in the clinically acceptable range. For J0 and J45, the mean differences were close to zero (P=0.43, 0.84); however, the 95% LoA were relatively wide (J0 SD: 0.53; 95%CI: -1.00, 1.10; J45 SD: 0.52; 95%CI: -1.00, 1.00). CONCLUSION: The two autorefractors are consistent with each other, as the differences in SE, DS, and DC were within the clinically acceptable range. Readers can compare the data measured by either device in different studies and use the two devices in the same study to generate a dataset that can be analyzed together. However, the J0 and J45 vectors are unreliable and should not be used to assess astigmatism.
Objective: This study aims to explore the effects of eye exercises on the accommodative ability of Chinese school-aged children. Methods: This study used a convenience cluster sampling and selected 149 students from grades 2-5 in a Wenzhou primary school to participate in the intervention in June 2022. This study involved a one-month intervention teaching eye exercises using a composite feedback model. Assessments were made at 3 and 9 months post-intervention. Data collection occurred thrice, including a baseline and two follow-ups, measuring monocular and binocular accommodative facility, monocular and binocular accommodative amplitude, CISS scale, spherical equivalent refraction, and uncorrected visual acuity. Analysis used chi-square tests and generalized estimating equations to evaluate the exercises' effectiveness, with a significance threshold of P < 0.05. Results: 134 students completed the follow-up, including 61 females (45.52%). After teaching intervention, students showed significant improvements in the accuracy of manipulation, rhythm, acupoint location, strength effectiveness and rhythm of acupressure eye exercises (all P < 0.05), with increases of 10.37%, 13.03%, 16.96%, and 25.17%, respectively. Follow-up assessments revealed both monocular and binocular accommodative amplitude at T3 were significantly higher than at T1 and T2. Moreover, the binocular accommodative amplitude in the high-quality eye exercise group remained significantly higher than that in the low-quality group even (B=1.39,1.46, P < 0.01). Eye exercises could improve monocular and binocular accommodative amplitude in the short term(P < 0.05). High-quality eye exercises could alleviate visual fatigue (B=-2.00-3.49, both P < 0.05). However, eye exercises did not demonstrate any advantages in affecting spherical equivalent refraction or uncorrected visual acuity (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Eye exercises can alleviate myopia-related symptoms in Chinese children aged 7 to 11 years. However, this study did not find that eye exercises effectively reduce the degree of myopia in children.
Purpose:To explore the level of participation in shared decision-making by patients with glaucoma and identify influencing factors, to subsequently provide references to promote shared decision-making in ophthalmology, and achieve patient-centered care.Patients and Methods:A questionnaire was completed by 148 patients with glaucoma who had been admitted to a specialized ophthalmic hospital in China, between October 2021 and January 2022. The participants' responses to the nine-item Shared Decision-Making Questionnaire (SDM-Q-9) and a general information survey were analyzed to determine their level of participation in shared decision-making and influencing factors. Multiple linear regression was used to identify factors that influence shared decision-making at the time of clinical practice.Results:The mean score of SDM-Q-9 was 71.73±21.27 (n=140). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that patients with negative attitudes towards participation in decision-making (P=0.023) and those who had rural insurance (P=0.017) had significantly lower SDM-Q-9 scores than those with positive attitudes and those with medical insurance. Patients who were more satisfied with their medical service had higher SDM-Q-9 scores (P<0.05).Conclusion:Patients with glaucoma presented a high level of shared decision-making. Patients' attitudes towards participating in decision-making, the payment method of medical expenses, and the level of satisfaction with medical services are factors that influence their level of participation in shared decision-making.
ABSTRACT Clinical relevance Knowledge of interactions between genetic variants and near-work activities at the onset of myopia can facilitate health education regarding myopia. Background To investigate the interactions between genetic variants (PDE10A, AREG and GABRR1) and near-work activities in the onset of myopia in southeastern Chinese school children. Methods A total of 458 non-myopic, grade 1 children aged 6–7 years were included in a 4-year follow-up examination; 409 children were assessed further. Manifest (non-cycloplegic) refraction and axial length (AL) were measured every year, and questionnaires were administered annually to assess information regarding the demographic characteristics of children, near-work activities, outdoor exposure and parental myopia. Oral mucosa was collected in the last year of follow-up, and Sanger sequencing was used to genotype single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in DNA. Results The cumulative change in the spherical equivalent refraction (SER) over 4 years was −1.20 ± 1.00 D, and the proportion of children with incident myopia was 42.9%. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that an increased amount of time spent doing homework (>2 h/d) was an independent risk factor for incident myopia. The PDE10A rs12206610CT genotype and spending > 5 h/d on near-work activities showed an interaction for incident myopia (OR = 4.29, 95% CI: 1.27-14.53; Pinteraction = 0.02); moreover, the rs12206610CT genotype carriers who used electronic devices for > 1 h/d displayed an increased risk of incident myopia (OR = 3.43, 95% CI: 1.07-11.01; Pinteraction = 0.043). Conclusions The rs2206610CT genotype carriers with near-work activities of >5 h/d were more likely to show incident myopia, especially those who used electronic devices >1 h/d. However, interactions between the rs12206610 SNP and near-work activities require further verification in animal models and larger sample cohorts.
近年来,近视患病率不断攀升,并出现低龄化的趋势[1-2].近视的不可逆性以及高度近视存在潜在失明的风险[3],这不仅可以引起儿童青少年的焦虑、抑郁情绪[4],降低视觉相关生活质量[5-6],而且给社会经济[7]带来不容小觑的影响.近视是多基因遗传疾病,是遗传、环境和生活方式相互作用的结果.最近的全基因组关联研究鉴定了与屈光不正相关的336个遗传位点,但是所有的遗传变异只解释了18.4%的遗传力[8],这表明近年来环境因素和生活方式对近视患病率的高速增长贡献了主要的力量.睡眠是人类生命活动的一个生理过程,充足的睡眠时长和高质量的睡眠是儿童青少年健康成长的重要保证.2010-2012年调查[9]显示,我国6~17岁儿童青少年平均每天睡眠时长为(8.45±0.03)h,整体睡眠不足率高,同时存在睡眠障碍问题[10].然而,睡眠与近视的密切关系在近几年才逐渐得到研究者重视[11-14].本文通过总结和分析国内外睡眠和近视关系的研究结论,阐述睡眠影响近视的可能机制,对近视防控提供了可能的方向.
Purpose To compare the effect of traditional conjunctival sac swab sampling (A) with aerosolization ocular surface microorganism sampling (B),a novel microbial sampling method, in detecting ocular microbial infection. Methods The study included 61 participants (122 eyes) enrolled at the Eye Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University from December, 2021 to March, 2023. Each eye of the participants underwent sampling first with method A then B.Before aerosolization sampling, the air environment was disinfected and sampled as blank air control sample. Subsequently, the air pulses impinging the ocular surface causes dehiscence of the tear film covering the ocular surface and aerosols are formed.The microorganisms from the ocular surface attach to the aerosols generated as aerosolization ocular surface microorganism and be sampled as subject sample by bio-aerosol sampler.The samples were collected and incubated at 25℃ for 3–5 days and 37℃ for 24–48 h.The colonies were counted and identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Results The accuracy in Group B was higher than that in Group A (45.8% vs. 38.3%, P = 0.289). There was a slight level of agreement between the results from both the sampling methods (k = 0.031, P = 0.730). The sensitivity in Group B was higher than that in Group A (57.1% vs. 35.7%, P = 0.453). The specificity results in Group B was higher than that in Group A (44.3% vs. 38.7%, P = 0.480). There were 12 and 37 types of microbes detected in Groups A and B, respectively. Conclusions Compared with traditional swab sampling, the novel aerosolization sampling method shows higher accuracy and more comprehensive detection of microbes; however, it cannot completely replace swab sampling. The novel method can be a novel conducive strategy and supplement swab sampling to auxiliary diagnose ocular surface infection.
AIM: To analyse the association of sleep quality with myopia under different genetic risk (GR) levels. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of students aged 9-14y in Wenzhou, China, was conducted. Refraction without cycloplegia and ocular parameters were measured. Sleep quality was assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Seventeen single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were replicated by association analysis and used to compute the GR score (GRS). Possible confounders were assessed by a questionnaire that collected information about the children and their parents. Generalized linear models were used to analyse the sleep quality, the GR, and their interaction effects on the risk of myopia. RESULTS: Out of 1354 children included in this study, 353 (26.07%) had sleep disturbances. The GRS ranged from 4.49 to 12.89 with a mean of 7.74±1.23, and the participants were divided into a low GR group, a moderate GR group and a high GR group according to the GRS quartile. In the generalized linear model, the children with sleep disturbances and high GR had a higher risk of myopia than those without sleep disturbances and with low GR (OR=1.59, 95%CI: 1.12-2.25; OR=1.88, 95%CI: 1.23-2.88, respectively). Compared to those with low GR and SDs, children with high GR with or without SDs had a higher risk of myopia (OR=4.88, 95%CI: 2.03-11.71; OR=1.70, 95%CI: 1.06-2.72, respectively). CONCLUSION: The prevalence of sleep disturbances in elementary school students in Wenzhou was 26.07%. There is a significant interaction between sleep disturbances and a high GR of myopia, suggesting that a high GR of myopia may increase children's sensitivity to sleep disturbances. This study indicates that children with a high GR of myopia need to achieve adequate sleep duration and excellent sleep quality.
AIM: To investigate the effects of school-based comprehensive intervention on myopia development in elementary school children. METHODS: As a part of the Wenzhou Epidemiology of Refraction Error Study, there were 1524 participating elementary students (730 girls, 47.9%) in grades 1 to 3 from three campuses of one school, aged 7.3±0.9y, who were examined twice every year for a 2.5y follow up period. Comprehensive intervention and other reminders were given at school every semester for the intervention group. The control group did not receive comprehensive intervention and did not have reminders of it. RESULTS: There were 651 students in the intervention group [mean age 7.3±0.9y; 294 (45.2%) girls] and 737 students in the control group [mean age 7.2±0.9y; 346 (46.9%) girls]. Overall mean myopia progression during the 2.5y follow-up was -0.49±1.04 diopters (D) in the intervention group and -0.65±1.08 D in the control group (P=0.004). The majority that not get myopia at baseline spherical equivalent (SE≤-1.0 D). Their mean myopia progression during the 2.5y follow-up was -0.37±0.89 D in the intervention group and -0.51±0.93 D in the control group (27.5% reduction, P=0.009); Overall, mean axial length elongation was less in the intervention group (0.56±0.32 mm) than in the control group (0.61±0.38 mm, 10.5% reduction, P=0.009). The percentage of close reading distance (<30 cm) in the intervention group was less than in the control group (73.4% vs 76.2%, P<0.001), the percentage of everyday perform eye exercises in the intervention group was more than in the control group (27.8% vs 20.7%, P<0.001) 30mo later. CONCLUSION: The comprehensive intervention program at elementary school has a significant alleviating effect on myopia progression for children during the 2.5y follow-up, especially for those non-myopia at baseline.
Aerosols, generated and expelled during common human physiological activities or medical procedures, become a vital carrier for the transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). During non-contact intraocular pressure measurements, aerosols can be produced from the tear film on eyes and potentially convey the SARS-CoV-2 in tears, creating a high risk for eye care practitioners and patients. Herein, we numerically investigate deformation and fragmentation of the tear films with various thicknesses and surface tensions that are impinged by an air jet. Evolution of the tear films manifests several types of breakup mechanisms, including both the bag breakup and ligament breakup of tear film on the eyeball, the ligament breakup of tear film on the eyelid margin, and the sheet breakup near the eyelid margin. The sheet near the eyelid margin is critical for generating large droplets and can be formed only if the jet velocity is high enough and the film is sufficiently thick. A criterion based on Weber number and capillary number is proposed for the breakup of tear film into droplets in which three regions are used to classify the film evolution. Our results indicate that eyes with excessive tears have a greater probability of generating aerosols than eyes under normal conditions. We recommend that enhanced protections should be adopted upon measurement for the patients with watery eyes, and the time interval between two adjacent measurements for the same individual should be also prolonged during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Background This study aimed to investigate the differences in optical axial length and close-work activities between only children and children with siblings in Wenzhou. Methods This was a cross-sectional population-based study. In total, 2913 school-aged children and their parents in Wenzhou were included as study subjects from April to May 2021. Data regarding the optical axial length, spherical equivalent refraction, number of children in a family, parental myopia, and close-work activities were collected through eye examinations and questionnaires. A multivariable logistic regression was used to analyze the association between the number of children in a family and optical axial length. Results The children were aged 9.80 ± 3.41 years. The overall percentage of children with an axial length > 24 mm was 38.9%, 44.5% in only children and 35.6% in multiples. The multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that the odds of having an AL > 24 mm were 1.24 times higher in only children than in multiples (OR: 1.24, 95% CI: 1.025–1.480, P = 0.028). Only children were 1.331 times more likely to perform homework > 1 h on weekends than multiples (OR: 1.331, 95% CI: 1.049–1.688, P = 0.019). Only children in upper grades were 1.543 times more likely to perform homework > 1 h on weekends than multiples (OR: 1.543, 95% CI: 1.065–2.235, P = 0.025). Boys who were only children were more likely to attend three or more extracurricular classes for academic subjects than multiples (OR: 1.224, 95% CI: 1.011–1.562, P = 0.004). Conclusions Being an only child may be associated with a higher risk of myopia and higher odds of close-work behaviors. Only children, especially those in upper grades, are more likely to spend more time on homework than their peers who are multiples. Only children, especially boys, are more likely to attend extracurricular classes in academic subjects. Trial registration This trial is registered as ChiCTR1900020584 at www.Chictr.org.cn .
总结1例黏多糖贮积症患儿抗青光眼手术后并发恶性青光眼的护理经验,护理要点包括早期观察恶性青光眼的病情变化,准确监测病人眼压,做好静脉酶替代疗法和激素球旁注射的护理和心理护理等。经过针对性护理,患儿眼压控制良好,视力逐渐恢复,恶性青光眼解除,病情好转出院。
Objective To analyze the changes in the prevalence of myopia and its relation to ocular biological parameters, and behaviors among primary school students in China, and understand the prevention and control of myopia. Methods Cross-sectional surveys were performed on 7–9-year-old children in the yrs. 2012 and 2019. In addition, spherical equivalent refraction (SER), axial length (AL), and AL/corneal radius ratio (AL/CR ratio) were collected without cycloplegia. Participants completed detailed questionnaires on behavior related to myopia. Results Data was collected on 623 children (8.02 ± 0.57 years old) in 2012 and 536 students in 2019 (8.09 ± 0.65 years old). The prevalence of myopia was 37.7% in 2012 and 39.9% in 2019. The SER was -0.25 (0.92) D in 2012 and -0.25 (1.25) in 2019. There was no statistical difference in the prevalence of myopia and SER over the 7 years (all P > 0.05). In 2019, the prevalence of myopia among girls demonstrated an increasing trend (33.8% vs. 37.8%), but there was no statistical difference ( P > 0.05). The mean AL and AL/CR ratio of boys were decreasing (all P < 0.05). The proportion of children reading more than 2 h and using digital devices for more than 2 h per day after their classes in the 2019 group both decreased (all P < 0.05). However, the proportion of activities performed outdoors for more than 2 h./day decreased significantly ( P = 0.001). Conclusion Compared with 2012, the prevalence of myopia in primary school students in 2019 was under control, which may be related to the improvement of children's near-work behavior, but there was the problem of insufficient outdoor activity time. In terms of ocular biological parameters, the risk of myopia for boys in 2019 was lower.
