A holographic CFT description of asymptotically flat spacetimes inherits vacuum degeneracies and IR divergences from its gravitational dual. We devise a Quantum Error Correcting (QEC) framework to encode both effects as correctable fluctuations on the CFT dual. The framework is physically motivated by embedding a chain of qudits in the so-called Klein spacetime and then taking a continuum 𝑁 → ∞ limit. At finite 𝑁 the qudit chain 1) enjoys a discrete version of celestial symmetries and 2) supports a Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) code. The limit results in hard states with quantized BMS hair in the celestial torus forming the logical subspace, robust under errors induced by soft radiation. Technically, the construction leverages the recently studied 𝑤1+∞ hierarchy of soft currents and its realization from a sigma model in twistor space.
Quantum gravity in 4D asymptotically flat spacetimes features spontaneous symmetry breaking due to soft radiation hair, intimately tied to the proliferation of IR divergences. A holographic description via a putative 2D CFT is expected free of such redundancies. In this series of two papers, we address this issue by initiating the study of Quantum Error Correction in Celestial CFT (CCFT). In Part I we construct a toy model with finite degrees of freedom by revisiting noncommutative geometry in Kleinian hyperkähler spacetimes. The model obeys a Wick algebra that renormalizes in the radial direction and admits an isometric embedding à la Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill. The code subspace is composed of 2-qubit stabilizer states which are robust under soft spacetime fluctuations. Symmetries of the hyperkähler space become discrete and translate into the Clifford group familiar from quantum computation. The construction is then embedded into the incidence relation of twistor space, paving the way for the CCFT regime addressed in upcoming work.
We start by defining two-particle operators that appear in celestial CFT. We then show how to compute their OPE coefficients with the known single-particle operators at tree level from multiparticle factorization channels, focusing on the leading contribution involving the two-particle states. These factorization channels only give us single-particle exchanges. To extract the multiparticle exchanges, we look at the MHV gluon amplitudes and show how non-factorization channels contribute to two-particle terms in the single-helicity sector. This is a first step towards systematically computing the full celestial OPE.
A reimagining of the supergravity prepotential formulation of 4D, 𝒩 = 1 supergravity and its Salam-Strathdee superfield superconformal gauge group is presented.
We show that the 3d 3d Born-Infeld theory can be generated via an irrelevant deformation of the free Maxwell theory. The deforming operator is constructed from the energy-momentum tensor and includes a novel non-analytic contribution that resembles root- T \ overline{T} ToverlineT . We find that a similar operator deforms a free scalar into the scalar sector of the Dirac-Born-Infeld action, which describes transverse fluctuations of a D-brane, in any dimension. We also analyse trace flow equations and obtain flows for subtracted models driven by a relevant operator. In 3d 3d , the irrelevant deformation can be made manifestly supersymmetric by presenting the flow equation in \mathcal{N} = 1 𝒩=1 superspace, where the deforming operator is built from supercurrents. We demonstrate that two supersymmetric presentations of the D2-brane effective action, the Maxwell-Goldstone multiplet and the tensor-Goldstone multiplet, satisfy superspace flow equations driven by this supercurrent combination. To do this, we derive expressions for the supercurrents in general classes of vector and tensor/scalar models by directly solving the superspace conservation equations and also by coupling to \mathcal{N} = 1 𝒩=1 supergravity. As both of these multiplets exhibit a second, spontaneously broken supersymmetry, this analysis provides further evidence for a connection between current-squared deformations and nonlinearly realized symmetries.
The purpose of this paper is to study the holomorphic multicollinear limit of (celestial) amplitudes and use it to further investigate the double residue condition for (hard celestial) amplitudes and the celestial operator product expansion. We first set up the notion of holomorphic multicollinear limits of amplitudes and derive the 3-collinear splitting functions for Yang-Mills theory, Einstein gravity, and massless $\phi^3$ theory. In particular, we find that in $\phi^3$ theory the celestial 3-OPE contains a term with a branch cut. This explicit example confirms that branch cuts can obstruct the double residue condition for hard celestial amplitudes, which is the underlying cause of the celestial Jacobi identities not holding for certain theories. This addresses an ongoing debate in the literature about associativity of the celestial OPEs and concretely demonstrates a new (multi-particle) term in the celestial OPE coming from the multi-particle channel in the amplitudes.
Abstract This paper presents a systematic cataloging of the generators of celestial symmetries on phase space. Starting from the celestial OPEs, we first show how to extract a representation of the general-spin analog of the wedge subalgebra of w 1+∞ on the phase space of massless matter fields of arbitrary helicity. These generators can be expressed as light-sheet operators that are quadratic in the matter fields at future or past null infinity. We next show how to extend these symmetries beyond the wedge. Doing so requires us to augment the quadratic operators with: 1) linear terms corresponding to primary descendants of the negative helicity gauge fields the matter modes couple to, and 2) a tower of higher-particle composite operator contributions. These modes can be realized as light-ray operators supported on generators of null infinity, but local on the celestial sphere. Finally, we construct a representation of the celestial symmetries that captures how the positive helicity gauge fields transform. We close by discussing how these celestial symmetries inform our choice of detector operators.
A bstract We examine the BCFW recursion relations for celestial amplitudes and how they inform the celestial bootstrap program. We start by recasting the celestial incarnation of the BCFW shift as a generalization of the action of familiar asymptotic symmetries on hard particles, before focusing on two limits: z → ∞ and z → 0. We then discuss how the celestial CFT data encodes the large- z behavior determining which shifts are allowed, while the infinitesimal limit is tied to the celestial bootstrap program via the BG equations that constrain the MHV sector. The extension to super-BCFW is also presented. We close by remarking on several open questions for future study.
We start by observing that the light-ray operators featured in the conformal collider literature are celestial primaries. This allows us to rephrase the corresponding 4D CFT correlators as probing a conformally soft matter sector of the 2D celestial CFT (CCFT). To demonstrate the utility of this perspective we show how the recent w1+∞ symmetry observed in CCFT suggests a natural extension of the conformal collider operators.
Building on results in arXiv:2203.04255, we compute the correlator of four gluon light-ray operators in celestial CFT. We find that it is described by Fox H-functions and generalized I-functions of multiple variables. We also analyze light-ray correlators for a scalar amplitude involving the exchange of a massive scalar.
Dp-branes acquire effective nonlinear descriptions whose bosonic part is related to the Born-Infeld action. This nonlinearity has been proven to be a consequence of the partial N=2→N=1 supersymmetry breaking, originating from the solitonic nature of the branes. In this work, we focus on the effective descriptions of D2-branes. Using the Goldstone multiplet interpretation of the action and the method of nilpotent N=2 superfields, we construct the 3D, N=1 superspace effective action which makes the first supersymmetry manifest and realizes the second, spontaneously broken, supersymmetry nonlinearly. We show that there are two such supersymmetric extensions of the 3D Born-Infeld action which correspond to the dynamics of the 3D Maxwell-Goldstone multiplet and the 3D projection of the Tensor-Goldstone multiplet respectively. Moreover, we demonstrate that these results are derived by applying the constrained superfield approach on the N=2,D=3 vector and chiral multiplets after expanding them around a nontrivial vacuum. We find that these two descriptions are related by a duality transformation which results in the inversion of a dimensionless parameter. For both descriptions we derive the explicit bosonic and fermionic parts of the 3D super Born-Infeld action. Finally, consider the deformation of the Maxwell-Goldstone superspace action by the characteristic Chern-Simons-like, gauge invariant, mass term.
Proposals are made to describe the Weyl scaling transformation laws of supercovariant derivatives ∇ A , the torsion supertensors T AB C , and curvature supertensors R ABc d in 10D superspaces. Starting from the proposal that an unconstrained supergravity prepotential for the 11D, 𝒩 = 1 theory is described by a scalar superfield, considerations for supergravity prepotentials in the 10D theories are enumerated. We derive infinitesimal 10D superspace Weyl transformation laws and discover ten possible 10D, 𝒩 = 1 superfield supergravity prepotentials. The first identification of all off-shell ten dimensional supergeometrical Weyl field strength tensors, constructed from respective torsions, is presented.
A conjecture is made that the weight space for 4D, $$ \mathcal{N} $$ -extended supersymmetrical representations is embedded within the permutahedra associated with permutation groups 𝕊d. Adinkras and Coxeter Groups associated with minimal representations of 4D, $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 1 supersymmetry provide evidence supporting this conjecture. It is shown that the appearance of the mathematics of 4D, $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 1 minimal off-shell supersymmetry representations is equivalent to solving a four color problem on the truncated octahedron. This observation suggest an entirely new way to approach the off-shell SUSY auxiliary field problem based on IT algorithms probing the properties of 𝕊d.
Starting from higher dimensional adinkras constructed with nodes referenced by Dynkin Labels, we define adynkras. These suggest a computationally direct way to describe the component fields contained within supermultiplets in all superspaces. We explicitly discuss the cases of ten dimensional superspaces. We show this is possible by replacing conventional $\theta$-expansions by expansions over Young Tableaux and component fields by Dynkin Labels. Without the need to introduce $\sigma$-matrices, this permits rapid passages from Adynkras $\to$ Young Tableaux $\to$ Component Field Index Structures for both bosonic and fermionic fields while increasing computational efficiency compared to the starting point that uses superfields. In order to reach our goal, this work introduces a new graphical method, tying rules, that provides an alternative to Littlewood's 1950 mathematical results which proved branching rules result from using a specific Schur function series. The ultimate point of this line of reasoning is the introduction of mathematical expansions based on Young Tableaux and that are algorithmically superior to superfields. The expansions are given the name of adynkrafields as they combine the concepts of adinkras and Dynkin Labels.
We present Adynkra Libraries that can be used to explore the embedding of multiplets of component field (whether on-shell or partial on-shell) within Salam-Strathdee superfields for theories in dimension nine through four.
This paper is an extension of our last 1D, N = 4 supersymmetric SYK paper [arXiv:2103.11899]. In this paper we introduced the complex linear supermultiplet (CLS), which is "usefully inequivalent" to the chiral supermultiplet. We construct three types of models based on the complex linear supermultiplet containing quartic interactions from modified CLS kinetic term, quartic interactions from 3-pt vertices integrated over the whole superspace, and 2(q-1)-pt interactions generated via superpotentials respectively. A strong evidence for the inevitability of dynamical bosons for 1D, N = 4 SYK is also presented.
Proposals are made to describe 1D, N = 4 supersymmetrical systems that extend SYK models by compactifying from 4D, N = 1 supersymmetric Lagrangians involving chiral, vector, and tensor supermultiplets. Quartic fermionic vertices are generated via intergrals over the whole superspace, while 2(q − 1)-point fermionic vertices are generated via superpotentials. The coupling constants in the superfield Lagrangians are arbitrary, and can be chosen to be Gaussian random. In that case, these 1D, N = 4 supersymmetric SYK models would exhibit Wishart-Laguerre randomness, which share the same feature among 1D, N = 1 and N = 2 models in literature. One difference though, is our models contain dynamical bosons, but this is consistent with other 1D, N = 4 and 2D, N = 2 models in literature. PACS: 11.30.Pb, 12.60.Jv
Celestial and momentum space amplitudes for massless particles are related to each other by a change of basis provided by the Mellin transform. Therefore properties of celestial amplitudes have counterparts in momentum space amplitudes and vice versa. In this paper, we study the celestial avatar of dual superconformal symmetry of $\mathcal{N}=4$ Yang-Mills theory. We also analyze various differential equations known to be satisfied by celestial $n$-point tree-level MHV amplitudes and identify their momentum space origins.
The mathematical concept of a "Banchoff index" associated with discrete Morse functions for oriented triangular meshes has been shown to correspond to the height assignments of nodes in adinkras. In recent work there has been introduced the concept of "Banchoff matrices" leading to HYMNs - height yielding matrix numbers. HYMNs map the shape of an adinkra to a set of eigenvalues derived from Banchoff matrices. In the context of some examples of four-color, minimal five-color, and minimal six-color adinkras, properties of the HYMNs are explored.
For the first time in the physics literature, the Lorentz representations of all 2,147,483,648 bosonic degrees of freedom and 2,147,483,648 fermionic degrees of freedom in an unconstrained eleven dimensional scalar superfield are presented. Comparisons of the conceptual bases for this advance in terms of component field, superfield, and adinkra arguments, respectively, are made. These highlight the computational efficiency of the adinkra-based approach over the others. It is noted at level sixteen in the 11D, N = 1 scalar superfield, the 65 representation of SO(1,10), the conformal graviton, is present. Thus, Adinkra-based arguments suggest the surprising possibility that the 11D, N = 1 scalar superfield alone might describe a Poincare supergravity prepotential in analogy to one of the off-shell versions of 4D, N = 1 superfield supergravity.
