Aggregation of graphene oxide (GO) is significantly affected by dissolved organic matter (DOM) in natural waters, while DOM's climate zone and light irradiation is seldom considered. This study investigated the effect of humic/fulvic acid (HA/FA) from various climate zones of China on aggregation of small (200 nm) and large (500 nm) GO under 120-h UV irradiation. GO aggregation was promoted by HA/FA because UV irradiation decreased hydrophilicity of GO and steric forces among particles. GO generated electron and hole pair under UV irradia-tion, which reduce GO with more hydrophilic oxygen-containing functional group (C-O) to rGO with high hy-drophobicity and oxidize DOM into organic matter with smaller molecular weight. Most severe GO aggregation was observed with Makou HA from Subtropical Monsoon climate zone and Maqin FA from Plateau and Mountain climate zone, which was primarily because HA/FA's high molecular weight and aromaticity dispersed GO initially that facilitated UV penetration. GO aggregation ratio was positively correlated with graphitic fraction content (R2 = 0.82-0.99) and negatively correlated with C-O group content (R2 = 0.61-0.98) in the presence of DOM under UV irradiation. This work highlights different dispersity of GO during photochemical reactions in various climate zones, providing new insight into the environmental implications of nanomaterial release.
Understanding the fate and toxicity of microplastics (MPs, < 5 mm plastic particles) is limited by quantification methods. This paper summarizes the methods in use and presents new ones. First, sampling and pretreatment processes of MPs, including sample collection, digestion, density separation, and quality control are reviewed. Then the promising and convenient staining procedures and quantification methods for MPs using fluorescence dyes are reviewed. The factors that influence the staining of MPs, including their physicochemical properties, are summarized to provide an optimal operation procedure. In general, the digestion step is crucial to eliminate natural organic matter (NOM) to avoid interference in quantification. Chloroform was reported to be the most appropriate solvent, and 10–20 μg/mL are recommended as optimal dye concentrations. In addition, a heating and cooling procedure is recommended to maintain the fluorescence intensity of MPs for two months. After staining, a fluorescence microscope is usually used to characterize the morphology, mass, or number of MPs, but compositional analysis cannot be determined with it. These fluorescence staining methods have been implemented to study MP abundance, transport, and toxicity and have been combined with other chemical characterization techniques, such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. More studies are needed to focus on the synthesis of novel dyes to avoid NOM’s interference. They need to be combined with other spectroscopic techniques to characterize plastic composition and to develop image-analysis methods. The stability of stained MPs needs to be improved.
Nowadays, there are more and more environment problems around us. it will be a hard work to track pollution with computer, because of its huge calculated amount. To speed up this process, we use GPU instead of CPU to compute, and use block chain technology. With the two powerful tools, we can significantly speed up the computation speed.
Learners’ participation is a significant issue which will influence the future development of MOOC. This empirical study takes 386 undergraduate students as research object to investigate the learners’ participation in MOOC. As to the 89 students who have finished at least one course, the influence factors of learning satisfaction are analyzed and the unfinished reasons are also analyzed to the other 297 students who have never finished a course. Results show that learning satisfaction can be influenced by quality learning resource, quality teachers and personal learning style provided by MOOC. Lack of perceived usefulness and higher difficult expectations are the two major reasons which lead the low participation and finish rate of MOOC among undergraduate
