Bio
Marine microbial carbonates (microbialites) are my main tool of research. My scientific profile is characterized by a broad multidisciplinary expertise comprising the research areas geochemistry, sedimentology, palaeobiology and palaeontology. My research spans from the modern cold-water carbonate factory (cold-water coral mounds) in the Northern Atlantic Ocean to post-glacial tropical carbonate factories (ecosystem coral reefs and bioherms) in the world oceans to extreme environments during the Permian-Triassic Boundary mass extinction and Early Triassic recovery (shallow water bioherms) in the ancient Tethys Ocean. Using also a molecular approach my science spans scales from molecules to ecosystems.
