个人简介
Thomas C. O'Reilly received the B.A. degree in earth sciences
from the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL, USA, in 1979 and the M.A. degree in geochemistry from Washington
University in St. Louis, St. Louis, MO, USA, in 1983.
Currently, he is a Software Engineer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, Moss Landing, CA, USA. He
began his professional career in 1980 by developing software for commercial lab Xray and electron spectrometers, and
then laboratory database systems for Hewlett-Packard's Scientific Instruments Division. He joined the geology
department at Arizona State University, Phoenix, AZ, USA, in 1979, where he developed “flight software”
and ground planning systems for the Thermal Emission Spectrometer, which orbited Mars aboard the Mars Global Surveyor
from 1997 to 2007. He also developed mission planning software for the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and
Reflection Radiometer currently orbiting Earth aboard the NASA Terra spacecraft. Since joining MBARI in 1995 he
developed software for ocean color satellite data analysis, in situ ceanographic instrumentation,
“ocean observatory” sensor networks, remote operated vehicles, autonomous underwater vehicles, and
autonomous surface vehicles. He led a team of other organizations and instrument manufacturers to define and evaluate
the Open Geospatial Consortium's PUCK protocol standard.
Mr. O'Reilly is a member of the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society.
