Truncospora ochroleuca is a polypore species belonging to the family Polyporaceae (Polyporales), previously reported from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. In this study, we report the first record of T. ochroleuca from northwestern Tunisia, where it was collected on a living Pinus pinea L. tree in a subhumid forest ecosystem. The species was characterized using macro- and micromorphological features, cultural characteristics, and molecular phylogenetic analyses based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rDNA region. Morphologically, the Tunisian specimen exhibited typical diagnostic traits of T. ochroleuca , including small ungulate basidiomata, a di- to trimitic hyphal system with dextrinoid skeletal hyphae, and thick-walled, ellipsoid, strongly dextrinoid basidiospores. Phylogenetic analyses (MP, ML, and Bayesian inference) confirmed the placement of the specimen within the monophyletic Truncospora clade, clearly distinct from Perenniporia sensu stricto. The Tunisian sequence showed 99.45% similarity to a French strain of T. ochroleuca . This finding expands the known distribution of the species in the Mediterranean region and highlights the underexplored diversity of polypore fungi in North Africa. Further multilocus phylogenetic studies are recommended to better resolve species boundaries within the genus Truncospora .
Pearl millet, a drought-tolerant cereal, is a crucial role in food security, in arid and semi-arid regions. Despite its global significance, genetic diversity of Algerian pearl millet populations remains underexplored. This study assessed the genetic diversity of 22 pearl millet genotypes from four distinct Saharan agroclimatic zones in Algeria using 24 SSR markers. A total of 87 alleles were detected, with an average of 3.62 alleles per locus and polymorphic information content (PIC) values ranging from 0.043 to 0.815, indicating substantial genetic variability. Analysis of Molecular Variance (AMOVA) revealed greater genetic variance within individuals than among them. Genotypes from Tamanrasset and In Salah exhibited higher diversity than those from Oued Souf and Adrar, with private and rare alleles underscoring the impact of geographic isolation. Cluster analysis and principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) grouped genotypes by geographic origin, identifying five major genetic groups, confirming patterns of gene flow and local adaptation. Populations from Niger and India were highly genetic distant from Algerian landraces making them promising candidates for heterotic hybrid development. These findings provide insights for broadening the genetic base of breeding strategies targeting yield and stress resilience in pearl millet.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the phytochemical constituents and anticoagulant, and antibacterial activities of phenolic extracts obtained from flaxseed. The quantitative estimation of total phenols by the colorimetric method showed that both aqueous and methanolic extracts are low in these compounds. The evaluation of the antibacterial activity of polyphenols was carried out by the disc method by determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The results showed that no antibacterial activity with polyphenols was observed; against the five bacteria tested. The anticoagulant activity of polyphenols was also evaluated in vitro using the cephaline-kaolin (TCK) and Quick time (TQ) tests. The coagulation times obtained on normal plasma indicate that they have moderate activity on both coagulation pathways.
