Now that most national maritime spatial plans have been prepared in accordance with Directive 2014/89/EU, challenges and uncertainties persist regarding flexibility to address socio-economic, environmental, and governance specificities at regional and local levels. This study proposes a methodological framework for integrating regional needs into national maritime spatial planning (MSP) processes, thereby enhancing the role of sub-national actors in MSP and the effective implementation of actions. The research employs a comparative analysis of eight case study regions from five European countries carried out within the REGINA-MSP (Regions to boost National maritime spatial planning) project. These were selected to encompass diverse governance structures, competent authorities, procedural approaches (from strategic to more detailed plans), and stages of MSP implementation (including recently adopted, long-established, and plans pending adoption). The findings highlight persistent challenges in regional and sub-regional integration, including gaps in stakeholder participation, data fragmentation and limited coherence between national strategies and regional and local needs. The proposed framework provides a structured, participatory approach to identifying regional needs, translating them into actionable measures, and prioritizing interventions based on their strategic relevance and urgency. This study contributes to improving the adaptability of MSP to different governance settings and provides a replicable methodology for enhancing regional engagement in MSP.
Globally goat milk ranks as the third most produced milk, following cow and buffalo milk. It is distinguished by a unique nutritional profile enriched with bioactive components that offer numerous therapeutic benefits. Its distinct protein, such as low αs1-casein as well as higher β-casein, and fat composition, like smaller fat globules and higher concentrations of medium-chain triglycerides, taurine, polyamines, oligosaccharides, bioactive peptides, essential minerals, and vitamins, contribute to enhanced digestibility and nutrient absorption. Research reports indicate that aforesaid unique features of goat milk collectively impart hypoallergenic, antioxidant, antipathogenic, immune-modulating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-proliferative effects, supporting brain health, cardiovascular function, and gut health. Because of these properties, goat milk and components are being applied for different physiological and health-boosting potentials. Also, the bioactive constituents of goat milk are currently under investigation for their therapeutic potential and have facilitated the development of a range of specialty products. This review explores goat milk's exceptional composition, physiological functionality, and medicinal value, highlighting its expanding role in consumer health and wellness.
Brazil produces approximately 40 million tires annually and discards over 450,000 tons within the same period. Improper disposal turns tires into an environmental liability; each unit can take about 600 years to decompose in nature. This can cause environmental damage and contribute to disease proliferation by creating mosquito breeding grounds, including vectors for Dengue, Zika virus, Chikungunya, and Yellow Fever. To mitigate these damages, Block Selantes was founded in 2018. The company utilizes discarded tires to produce automotive sealants that prevent punctures and tire wear. It is the only company globally to use recycled tires as a sustainable raw material for sealants, a process protected by an industrial patent, resulting in a unique product fully compatible with tire rubber. Additionally, using the sealant in automotive applications significantly enhances vehicle operation safety, reduces costs, and improves logistical efficiency. The use of recycled raw materials also reduces CO2 emissions and generates carbon credits for logistics operators. This paper details the tests and results obtained during the technical validation of the sealant when applied to commercial passenger and cargo vehicles.
