The integration of 3D printing and artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare management by driving innovations in personalized care, supply chain operations, and clinical workflows. This review offers a comprehensive overview and in-depth analysis of recent (2018-2025) applications where AI technologies enhance 3D printing within healthcare. We explore how AI-powered design and optimization facilitate the creation of patient-specific medical devices, implants, and even bioprinted tissues, while intelligent process control increases both quality and efficiency. Additionally, we examine regulatory and ethical considerations, including the evolution of frameworks for AI-enabled devices, as well as challenges in data governance, validation, and equitable access. The review takes a global perspective, presenting real-world case studies that showcase both successful implementations and ongoing challenges. We also discuss various perspectives and controversies, such as the balance between innovation and safety in autonomous AI design, and highlight areas where further research is needed. In contrast to previous narrative reviews that focus solely on clinical applications or technical aspects, this review uniquely evaluates the combined impact of AI and 3D printing on healthcare management-including cost-effectiveness, governance, decision-making processes, and point-of-care manufacturing. This work is particularly valuable for hospital administrators, clinical operations leaders, health policymakers, and biomedical innovation teams seeking to understand the broader implications of AI-enhanced 3D printing in healthcare management. Nevertheless, despite promising advancements, the field is constrained by heterogeneous evidence, a lack of standardized evaluation metrics, and insufficient long-term outcome data, which together limit the ability to fully assess the sustained impact of AI-integrated 3D printing in healthcare environments.
Land fragmentation is a phenomenon that affected Western Europe in the past and, starting from 1989, the countries of Eastern Europe. One of the ways in which the effect of land fragmentation can be diminished is the process of land consolidation. Through land consolidation, owner can get better shaped parcels that can help increase agricultural productivity. Using the existent literature in the field of land consolidation, this exploratory study proposes a series of factors for land evaluation for the land consolidation process. These factors are applied in Saschiz administrative unit in Romania using different type of data to calculate the score for each factor. The result shows how this framework functions in real conditions.
Live prey used by the aquaculture industry are usually poor in some essential nutrients including long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) and must be enriched to improve their nutritional value prior to larval feeding. Standard enrichment protocols are commonly based on lipid emulsions, being associated to a high oxidative stress condition. The combination of microalgae and lipid emulsion can palliate this situation, where the oxidative stress can be partially compensated by the antioxidant compounds present in microalgae. The maintenance of living microalgae in culture facilities is laborious, and the produced biomass may present fluctuating properties, leading to a serious bottleneck in the cultivation of live prey. Hence, substitutes for live microalgae including pastes or dried formats are receiving increasing research attention due to its nutritional stability, longer shelf-life and easy handling. In this study four different microalgae formats combined with a lipid emulsion are tested as enrichment products for Brachionus plicatilis and Artemia. Thus, fresh, frozen and spray-dried Navicula salinicola (NFRE, NFRO and NSD, respectively), and spray-dried Isochrysis galbana (ISD) were mixed with a commercial oil concentrate (IncromegaTM) or a marine lecithin (LC 60®), and added for 5 h to the rotifer or Artemia culture media. The antioxidant capacity of the microalgae extracts and the live prey activity of antioxidant enzymes, peroxides index (PxI) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) were evaluated. The lipid profile of microalgae formats and enriched live preys was also determined. Ethyl acetate extract was the most antioxidant active extract of all microalgae formats. In addition, overall, I. galbana seems to be better than any N. salinicola format for a more effective protection against oxidative stress and for live prey lipid enrichment. Both rotifer and Artemia cultured with the mixture of I. galbana and the lipid emulsion generally showed higher DHA/EPA and EPA/ARA ratios. Moreover, the combination of the microalgae with LC 60® lipid emulsion highly favored Artemia´s polar lipid and DHA incorporation. Among microalgae products, both spray-dried formats better enhanced live prey n-3 LC-PUFA content. Our results highlight the great potential of new microalgae-derived products to improve effectiveness of current live prey lipid enrichment protocols used in aquaculture.
Many of the long-term policy decisions surrounding the sustainable energy transition rely on models that fail to consider environmental impacts and constraints beyond direct greenhouse gas emissions and land occupation. Such assessments offer incomplete and potentially misleading information about the true sustainability issues of transition pathways. Meanwhile, although decision-makers desire greater access to a broader range of environmental, material and socio-economic indicators, few tools currently address this gap. Here, we introduce ENBIOS, a framework that integrates a broader range of such indicators into energy modelling and policymaking practices. By calculating sustainability-related indicators across hierarchical levels, we reach deeper understandings of the potential energy systems to be derived. With ENBIOS, we analyse a series of energy pathways designed by the Calliope energy system optimization model for the European energy system in 2030 and 2050. Although overall emissions will drop significantly, considerable rises in land, labour and critical raw material requirements are likely. These outcomes are further reflected in unfavourable shifts in key metabolic indicators during this period; energy metabolic rate of the system will drop by 25.6%, land requirement-to-energy will quadruple, while the critical raw material supply risk-to-energy ratio will rise by 74.2%. Heat from biomass and electricity from wind and solar are shown to be the dominant future processes across most indicator categories.
