Good governance is a major concern around the world for its growing acceptance for making institutions more efficient and effective in order to reduce disparity and establish rule of law with transparency, participation, responsiveness and accountability. All the components of good governance are important for human development. Considering this approach, this chapter explores the impact of good governance on the human development of some selected countries in the world. More specifically, the chapter seeks to find the components which affect human development the most. This study has been analyzed with panel data from 164 countries across the world for the span of 2002–2019 and using applied econometric models to explore human development. Next, in the second part, principal component analysis is used to identify the crucial factors which affect the human development the most. From the analysis, it is found that there is a significant relationship between good governance and human development and among the six factors; government effectiveness is most effective in inducing good governance.
The paper attempts to measure climate change livelihood vulnerability of different tribal communities say Santal, Munda, Bhumij and Lodha in West Bengal, India by formulating livelihood vulnerability index and is to identify its determinants. The study is based on primary data collected from 200 tribal households in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal, India in 2018. The study has utilized beta regression model to identify the determinants of livelihood vulnerability. Results of the study showed that livelihood vulnerability index of Lodha tribal community is 0.318 and it is highest compared to that of Santal, Munda and Bhumij tribal communities. This shows that Lodha tribal community is more vulnerable compared to other tribal communities. The determinants of livelihood vulnerability of tribal community are the family size, poverty, income from agriculture and distance from residence to market. The paper suggests different policy interventions that help to reduce tribal vulnerability through socio-economic development of the local tribal communities who are involved in forest protection and management and provision for better health infrastructure, educational facilities and food security to such communities.
India is the 2nd largest two wheeler market in the world • It stands next only to China and Japan in terms of the number of two-wheelers produced and the sales of two-wheelers respectively In 2013 , the Indian two-wheeler market accounted for 14.38 million units , CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate )(last three decade’s) is 10.03% . Average two-wheelers per 1000 people in India are 31 andthe urban market for two-wheelers is largely penetrated with nearly 57 of every 100 youths that earn an income to support the ownership of a two-wheeler. The Two-Wheeler industry's troubles began well before COVID-19 appeared on the scene. The Indian Two-Wheeler industry has been in trouble since mid-2018. The crisis started with a slowdown in production, which was aggravated by NBFC defaults. The auto industry has been hampered by a combination of demand and supply problems. The Pandemic majorly effected industries, including automotive sector. Need for social distancing and safety concerns are likely to shift the preference towards personal mobility in short to medium term, However, in medium to long term, the effect on personal choice of transport and PV sales are unlikely to see a large increase because of the following reasons: ‘Work from home’ trend to reduce movement for most white-collar professionals, Affordability of a four-wheeler is likely to be a constraint for majority of public transport users. Given the safety and The COVID‐19 epidemic has pushed the global economy and humanity into a disaster. In the attempt to control this pandemic, the governments of all the countries have imposed a nationwide lockdown. Although the lockdown may have assisted in limiting the spread of the disease, it has brutally affected the country, unsettling complete value‐chains of most important industries affordability concerns, two wheeler sales are likely to pick up. The global economic trade impact of pandemic on automotive industry is severe ,and Indian automotive sector will also get badly affected by it .This paper is a study of impact of Covid -19 pandemic on Indian two wheeler automotive sector and will suggest ways of overcoming this critical situation.
The paper attempts to measure forest dependence index of tribes based on forest product collection for livelihood generation and how social security programmes have impacted on forest dependence index. Besides, the paper tries to identify the factors influencing forest dependency and its implication for tribal livelihood. The present paper is based on primary data collected from the Purulia forest division in the district of Purulia, one of the tribal-dominated districts of West Bengal during 2019 across tribal communities of Santal , Munda , Bhumij and Lodha . The results of the study showed that forest dependence index of Purulia district is found to be 0.42. Bhumij tribes are highly forest dependent than others. The forest dependency has been negatively influenced by social security programmes implies that the getting proper benefits of social security programmes has led to low forest dependence of the tribal community of Purulia district. The forest dependency also explained by family size, age of headed household, education, distance from market and land holdings.
With the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing importance of e-commerce, the study of online consumer behaviour is of particular relevance. This thesis aims to identify the influence of Covid-19 on the retail industry's digitalization process as well as how it affected the consumers' decision to shop online versus offline. An online questionnaire helped to understand to what extent the novel disease Covid-19 influenced the decision to shop online versus offline and how the participants' perception towards shopping online has changed. 2020 will be reminded in history, because of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) that has influenced our lives in every field. Economy will never be the same as before COVID - 19. Our country went into complete lockdown from 23rd march. On 23 March, the first day of the lockdown, almost services and factories were suspended. Now, offline shopping becomes difficult as well as risky. It will attract the shoppers to take the advantages of internet technology by shopping online. Therefore, there is a need to understand the influence on online buying behaviour of customers due to this pandemic. This Study suggested that E- commerce companies should take proper steps to make effective marketing strategies to exist in the e-commerce sector. . This study proved the shifting influence of online consumer purchasing behaviour factors during the pandemic. The increasing importance of the speed of decision making by consumers when purchasing goods and services online was determined.
