The Liceo de Cagayan University is a private non-sectarian basic and higher education institution in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental Philippines. It was founded in 1955 by Rodolfo N. Pelaez of Cagayan de Oro City and his wife Elsa P. Pelaez of Cebu City.
This study examined men’s knowledge, religious concerns, healthcare support, and practical involvement in family planning in Barangay Tibanga, Iligan City. It was anchored in the Health Belief Model and Andersen Healthcare Utilization Model, which explain how individual perceptions, beliefs, available resources, and healthcare conditions influence participation in health-related activities. The study employed descriptive-correlational and predictive-causal research designs. Using purposive sampling with a consecutive sampling approach, data were collected from 195 married men or men in long-term relationships aged 18 to 54 years. A validated and reliability-tested survey-modified questionnaire based on the Demographic and Health Surveys Model Men’s Questionnaire was used. Data were analyzed using the mean, standard deviation, Spearman’s rho, and multiple linear regression. The findings showed high levels of knowledge regarding family planning, religious concern, and practical involvement, while healthcare support was moderately high. Men were most involved through communication, shared responsibility, and joint decision-making with their partners, but participation in public advocacy and community activities remained comparatively lower. Knowledge, religious concern, and healthcare support were significantly related to men’s practical involvement. The regression model explained 46.8% of the variance in practical involvement, with men’s inclusivity in the health service environment and awareness of contraception and misconceptions emerging as significant predictors. Religious concerns and access to family planning services were associated with involvement but did not independently predict it when the other variables were considered. The study recommends male-friendly facilities, gender-sensitive counseling, accurate family planning education, inclusive community programs, and stronger collaboration among healthcare providers, local government units, religious institutions, and couples. The study supports SDG 1 on poverty reduction, SDG 3 on good health and well-being, SDG 5 on gender equality, and SDG 17 on partnerships. Its sustainability impact lies in strengthening inclusive reproductive healthcare, shared family responsibility, culturally sensitive services, and evidence-based local health policies.
This study examined the levels of skills development, engagement, performance, leadership skills, and employability of Business Administration students, as well as the relationships between these variables. Using a descriptive–correlational research design, data were collected from Business Administration students through a validated survey instrument. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the levels of skills development in terms of academic technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and communication skills; engagement in terms of educational activities active involvement, self-directed learning, and collaborative learning; performance in terms of academic achievement and practical application; leadership skills in terms of decision-making, teamwork and collaboration, and interpersonal skills; and employability in terms of job acquisition skills, industry-relevant competencies, adaptability and lifelong learning, and professional attitude and work ethics. Pearson product–moment correlation was employed to examine the relationships between employability and skills development, engagement, performance, and leadership skills. Findings revealed that students demonstrated high levels across all measured variables. Moreover, significant positive relationships were found between employability and each of the four predictor variables, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis. The results highlight that employability is closely associated with students’ academic, behavioral, and leadership-related competencies.
BACKGROUND:Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder characterized by metabolic dysfunction, hyperandrogenism, and reproductive hormone imbalance. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effects of ketone supplementation on anthropometric, metabolic, and hormonal parameters in patients with PCOS. METHODS:A systematic search of major electronic databases was conducted to identify clinical studies evaluating the impact of ketone supplementation on BMI, serum glucose, insulin, lipid profile, and reproductive hormones in women with PCOS. Pooled analyses were performed using inverse-variance (IV) random-effects models. Heterogeneity was assessed using I2 statistics and χ2 tests, while publication bias was evaluated using funnel plots. RESULTS:A significant reduction in BMI was observed following ketone supplementation (IV - 13.08; 95% CI - 17.47 to - 8.69; P < .00001; I2 = 0%), with symmetrical funnel plots indicating low publication bias. Serum glucose levels showed a marked decrease (IV - 10.83; 95% CI - 12.98 to - 8.68; P < .00001; I2 = 93%), and insulin levels demonstrated a similarly significant reduction (IV - 11.87; 95% CI - 15.30 to - 8.44; P < .00001; I2 = 93%). Cholesterol levels also decreased, although the change was not statistically significant (IV - 10.77; 95% CI - 26.84 to 5.30; P = .19; I2 = 0%). Significant reductions were identified in LH levels (IV - 5.30; P < .00001) and androgen levels (IV - 6.93; P = .0001). In contrast, FSH and estrogen levels showed significant increases (both P < .00001). CONCLUSION:Ketone supplementation appears to confer significant metabolic and endocrine benefits in women with PCOS, including reductions in BMI, glucose, insulin, LH, and androgens, along with increases in FSH and estrogen.
Financial literacy is a vital competence for higher education students, particularly those in business programs where financial decision-making skills are essential. This study examined the levels of financial behavior, financial attitude, financial knowledge, and financial literacy among Business Administration students in selected public higher education institutions and determined the relationships among these variables. A quantitative descriptive–correlational design was employed. Data were collected from 290 fourth-year students using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and Pearson correlation. Findings revealed high levels of financial behavior (M = 3.88), financial attitude (M = 3.70), financial knowledge (M = 3.87), and financial literacy (M = 3.91). Spending emerged as the strongest dimension of financial behavior, personal finance knowledge ranked highest among knowledge components, and financial literacy was most evident in financial awareness and decision-making. Correlation analysis showed strong, positive, and significant relationships between financial literacy and financial behavior (r = .906, p < .001), financial attitude (r = .846, p < .001), and financial knowledge (r = .939, p < .001). The results indicate that financial literacy is closely linked to students’ financial practices, dispositions, and cognitive understanding. Strengthening integrated financial education programs that enhance knowledge, reinforce responsible financial behaviors, and cultivate constructive financial attitudes is recommended to support students’ long-term financial capability.
Accelerating science education in the Philippines remains a challenge for many educators. Consistent low performance scores of the Filipino learners based on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 results call for a need to innovate learning materials and approaches in the field of science education. Hence, this research focuses on the creation of vodcasts enriched with PhET simulations to teach vector concepts in physics and evaluate its effects on the students’ understanding and perception. This is to provide supplementary learning resources to grade 12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students who face challenges in understanding physics caused by insufficient instructional materials that concretize concepts through visuals. The study is grounded on analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) model for developing vodcasts on vectors as supplementary educational materials. The evaluators rated the vodcasts “satisfactory” yielding a mean rating of 4.15. The implementation resulted in a normalized gain of g=0.68, signifying an average improvement in the understanding of the learners. The main conclusion drawn from this study emphasizes on the effective use of vodcasts to supplement the learning of vectors. In other words, the implementation of well–designed vodcasts can significantly enhance vector instruction and lay the foundation for further improvements in physics and science education.
