The Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ) published a curriculum standard for university-level education majoring in data science (DS) (An English translation of the IPSJ Data Science Curriculum Standard is available at: https://www.ipthree.org/wp-content/uploads/IPSJ-DS-Curriculum_202104_en.pdf ). In this paper, we shall report strategy and development of the DS curriculum standards. Data science education and the development of data scientists are recognised to be quite important in both social and business contexts. The IPSJ DS curriculum standard is developed by integrating various related initiatives and has the following unique features. (1) The DS curriculum standard covers a wide range of related fields to ensure international compatibility through mapping to the ACM Data Science curriculum and the European EDISON Data Science Framework. (2) It collaborates with the IPSJ Data Scientist certification (under development) by referring to the Data Scientist skill checklist (assistant level) developed by the Data Scientist Society of Japan. (3) It clarifies the knowledge and skills required of students majoring in data science. (4) It assigns a time to each educational content so that the curriculum size becomes approximately 675 class hours (60 credits in the Japanese credit system). (5) It collaborates with the Model Curriculum for Mathematics, Data Science and AI Education (literacy level) developed by the Japan Inter-University Consortium for Mathematics and Data Science, supported by the Japanese government.
The rapid spread of COVID-19, which was first reported in Wuhan, China, gave unprecedented impacts to the people around the globe. Since no current established treatments nor medications are available, medical professionals are longing for the effective tools to fight against COVID-19. The true value of Chinese herbal medicine can be seen under such tough circumstances. The effects of Sanyao Sanfang, containing various naturally occurring phytochemicals were reported from the epicenter of COVID-19 in China. The distinctive feature of the Sanyao Sanfang is its ability to strengthen vitality of the body and improved resistance against invasive attacks by viruses and microbes. It also promotes activation of the immune system and its recovery to healthy status. It is obvious that the comprehensive effects of the Sanyao Sanfang do not stem from a single substance. Further studies are warranted for clarification of the mechanism and the role of other raw materials, as well as for the improvement of its formulation, efficacy and safety.
In Japanese higher educational institutions as in universities, many studies and practices on e-learning have been reported, but the state of trial and errors are still continuing. Thus, we propose the construction of an e-learning system incorporating not only with learner's consciousness but also with their learning style. Our proposing system is consistent of three individual parts and one integration phase. The first part is composed of tools, methods, and facilities used to provide the e-learning environment. The second part is composed of theoretical or practical works on learning styles. The third part is composed of learner’s consciousness factors on information security which we have studied so far. In the integration phase, the components of e-learning discussed in the first part are evaluated from learning style related psychological aspects. In the paper, we propose a trial version of e-learning system which includes several types of content with proper links to information security factors and to learning styles.
