BACKGROUND Subareolar breast abscess is extremely rare in males. Only a few cases of male breast abscess are reported in the literature till date. The clinical presentation of male breast include pain, periareolar swelling, tenderness and abscess formation. AIM To study occurrence of subareolar breast abscess in males. METHODS A retrospective study of 11 males from April 2014 to July 2024 is reported who presented with subareolar breast abscess. RESULTS Nine cases had uncomplicated and idiopathic abscess, and one has diabetes and another has underlying carcinoma breast. Incision drainage was done in 7 cases and one who has underlying carcinoma was managed by local toilet and antibiotics whereas rest two had needle aspiration for pus and other two had conservative treatment by antibiotics only. Pus culture predominantly yielded growth of Staphylococus . CONCLUSION Subareolar breast abscess is rare in males. Incision and drainage is treatment of choice in an uncomplicated cases.
To study anatomical, pathophysiological factors contributing to predilection of paranasal sinus involvement in AFRS in our population. This retrospective hospital-based study was conducted in the Postgraduate Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Government SMHS Hospital, Srinagar from January 2023 to June 2025. All patients attending the department, fulfilling the inclusion criteria were included in the study. Inclusion criteria were a diagnosis of AFRS according to the Bent and Kuhn criteria. Exclusion criteria included previous paranasal sinus surgery, and anatomical changes due to facial trauma. Fifteen (60
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has taken the world by a storm, posing a gruelling challenge to the medical fraternity globally. Besides its very high infectivityinfectivity, significant organ dysfunction occurs in critically ill COVID-19 patients, leading to severe morbidity and mortality. Pulmonary involvement is the leading cause of death in these patients to be followed by the cardiovascular involvement. Kidney involvement due to COVID-19 is becoming more discernible with AKI adversely affecting the outcome. Besides AKI, a few cases of collapsing FSGS in genetically vulnerable patients and thrombotic microangiopathies have been reported as well. We report a case of AA amyloidosis of the kidney with a rapidly progressive renal failure and congestive heart failure with preserved left ventricular functions, which complicated a moderate COVID-19 pneumonia providing some clues to a possible association of this novel virus disease with this complication, which needs to be confirmed in future studies.

Background Module-based teaching of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) with a systematic, stratified approach is expected to have a promising role in teaching. We hypothesized it to improve the skill and knowledge of intensive care unit nurses. Objectives The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of the teaching module with debriefing sessions on the VAP bundle care approach, and the secondary objective was to estimate the improvement in individual components of the VAP bundle. Methods A total of 200 paramedical staff were exposed to a teaching module consisting of pretest didactic lectures, debriefing sessions, reflection by participants, and feedback. Posttest analysis was done to assess knowledge. Skill assessment was done with directly observed procedural skills (DOPS) assessment, and feedback was taken from participants. Follow-up was done at 6 months to assess decay in knowledge and skills. Results Preworkshop and postworkshop DOPS scores were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Subgroup analysis was performed using the paired t test. Median pretest and posttest scores were 6 (interquartile range, 4-8) and 13 (interquartile range, 11-15), respectively (P < .001). Comparing DOPS scores before and after exposure to the teaching module, the number of subjects with scores that were below expectations was 24 and 4; meeting expectations was 94 and 24; borderline expectations were 36 and 104; and above expectations was 46 and 58, respectively, between the groups (P < .001). A decay in knowledge and skills was noted in the follow-up. Conclusion A validated teaching module with debriefing sessions is useful in training bundle care approaches to intensive care unit nurses.
