The study deals with the personal and literary relationship between Pavese and Calvino in the working environment of the Einaudi publishing house in Turin from the mid-1940s to the 1950s, and especially through the critical studies written by Calvino after Pavese's death in 1950. The edition of Pavese's posthumous works that Calvino carried out together with Natalia Ginburg brought him into direct contact with his literary world, and with the dense reflection on literature that until then Calvino had known only partially. In fact, in his numerous notes, introductions, and Pavesian studies, Calvino will attempt to continue the conversations with his "ideal reader", the late Cesare Pavese, by delving into the themes that revolve around his work, such as the "American dimension", "anti-fascism", "neo-realism", and "decadentism", among many other themes that are fully integrated into the development of Italian literature in the nineteenth century.
Teaching heritage language presents many challenges, one of the greatest of which arises when the teacher must work with a heterogeneous audience. Our article describes the experiences in integration of an intelligent tutoring tool into university curricula for teaching heritage Russian in two countries – Finland and Kazakhstan. The traditions of teaching Russian in the two countries, while different in many respects, share an important feature: heritage learners of Russian represent a sizable proportion of all students – which needs to be addressed both pedagogically and technologically. The work is based on the language-learning system Revita (helsinki.fi/revita), which helps students learn languages by automatically creating exercises from arbitrary authentic text materials, chosen by the students or teachers.
This article builds on the work of Byram (1997) and Fantini (2006) on the description and assessment of Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) and focuses on the investigation of the relevance of the four dimensions (knowledge, awareness, attitude and skills) described by Byram for Chinese Spanish-speaking students in China. It describes the process of developing of descriptors for a scale to evaluate the ICC of Chinese Spanish students and the process carried out for their validation. The analysis shows that the scale developed is reliable and effective. The four dimensions assess and explain the level of intercultural competence of Chinese Spanishspeaking students in different ways. Students show a higher level of ICC in the attitude dimension, while their performance is weaker in the skills, awareness and knowledge dimensions.
The aim will be to study part of the work of the French-language author Marguerite Andersen. More precisely, it is a matter of observing his vision of Germany in The paper manbut also in In memory of a woman, Parallels, The Crus of the Esplanada, The bad mother through his personal trajectory of resident in Germany until 1945 then observer for the media. We will thus see to what extent he carries out his Geschichtsbew & auml;ltigung, if his vision of Germany is archaic or updated throughout his work.
In the twilight of the 20th century, a Copernican shift occurred in the Mediterranean regarding the destinations of migrants coming from the South. Spain, after having long been a country of transit and emigration, became a country of immigration due to the successful democratization process and national economic improvement. In this context, the Mediterranean area experienced a massive migratory flow from Morocco. This migratory wave resulted in frequently undesirable and mostly catastrophic consequences, as the phenomenon of paterismo (illegal migration by small boats) surged, causing numerous victims in tragic shipwrecks in the Strait of Gibraltar. This painful situation stirred the conscience of civil society and sparked a heated debate in the political arena. In turn, faced with such tragedy, literature could not remain indifferent or unmoved; thus, various writers took up their pens to reflect and denounce this critical reality. In this article, we aim to explore, through an eclectic methodology-specifically descriptive, hermeneutic, and critical-the specific features of this literature and speculate on the ideological positions and aesthetic modalities at work in this imaginative body of work.
Mikhail Pervukhin's Pugachev the Victor (1924) is an early example of Russian alternate history, building on the narrative strategies first explored in his earlier novel The Second Life of Napoleon (1917). This article examines the historical, cultural, and literary circumstances that led Pervukhin to experiment with counterfactual narratives, focusing on his treatment of the Pugachev Rebellion and its comparison with the highly complex events of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution. Drawing on Tolstoy's philosophy of history and employing techniques later identified by Bakhtin as the adventure chronotope, Pervukhin crafts a narrative in which Russia itself emerges as a central protagonist, while individual wills intersect chaotically to shape historical outcomes. The analysis highlights his careful structuring of spatio-temporal settings to link counterfactual past with actual present, enabling authorial insights into the future and reinforcing the perceived inevitability of the nation's historical trajectory.
The aim of this article is to analyze the depiction of the Soviet era in Justification by Dmitry Bykov, with special consideration given to the novel's mottos. The work addresses the issue of mythologizing this era, focusing on the impact of propaganda narratives on the protagonist's relationship with his country's history and his assessment of Soviet authorities. The intertextual context, represented, among other things, by the novel's mottos, highlights the tendency of Russian society to passively endure suffering, revere power, and exhibit both mental numbness and inertia in action. The analysis of the character's attitude, deeply entangled in ideological discourse, prompts reflection on the possibility of overcoming national trauma. In this work, Bykov deconstructs the myth of the USSR and encourages contemplation of its enduring influence on Russian society.
Zhu Shuzhen (sic) is a renowned poet of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and one of the most important figures in the history of Chinese women's poetry. The great notoriety of her works is widely known, since they are not only studied in China, but have also been disseminated to other cultures in the world. The objective of this paper is to carry out a panoramic investigation of the translation of her poems in the Hispanic culture. It is made up of two parts: the first deals with the history of the publication of anthologies translated into Spanish that contain her compositions, and the second presents the selection of poems to translate and the translation strategies used by the translators.
The article reviews a series of fictional alternatives within expressionist prose. Our focus are those texts of a more subjectivist nature, often presented as erkenntnistheoretische Reflexionsprosa (Vietta i Kemper 1975) or experimenteller Reflexionsprosa (Oehm 1993): Tubutsch (Ehrenstein 1911), Bebuquin. Die Dilettanten des Wunders oder: Die billige Erstarrnis (Einstein 1912), Gehirne (Benn 1916), etc. Our general hypothesis is that Benn's book fully develops a series of aesthetic and programmatic variables outlined in the literary debates of the expressionist movement: not only in its emphasis at the level of subjective experience, but also in its use of fragmentation, condensation, poetic association, and mixing of genres. The analysis of the texts also demonstrates that the subjectivist emphasis would not, however, imply a departure from the real world. In its many variants, this set of stories proposes a mixture of both perspectives, enhanced according to the preferences of each author.
This study focuses on one of the least analysed figures in La desheredada, Juan Sou, a character who has always been considered secondary, whose sole purpose is to be the maximum representative of the working class in this novel by P & eacute;rez Gald & oacute;s. However, a detailed analysis the character, also carried out by means of a comparison with Isidora Rufete, the main protagonist of the novel, is intended to question this consideration. And the fact is that, despite appearing in full only in the Second Part of La desheredada, not only does he reveal a complex psychology and moral depth, but it will also be shown how he becomes a fundamental link in the second section of the work, even being its co-protagonist. Does P & eacute;rez Gald & oacute;s really end up condemning the two characters, as critics such as Sotelo V & aacute;zquez claim?
This study is dedicated to the analysis of the phenomenon of inclusivity in modern society with a particular focus on the spheres of education and language communication. The work examines the theoretical foundations of the inclusive approach, its manifestations in various social institutions, and its impact on interpersonal interaction. Particular attention is paid to the language component of inclusion, namely, an analysis of the possibilities and limitations of the Russian language in creating gender-neutral forms. The study demonstrates that the synthetic nature of the Russian language creates certain difficulties in forming inclusive language constructions. However, an analysis of modern language practices allows us to offer innovative ways to achieve gender neutrality.
