
Objective:To measure serum copper and protein thiols along with lipid profile in hyperlipidemic patients and to establish the relationship between serum copper,protein thiols and lipid profile parameters.Methods: The study group consisted of 26 newly diagnosed hyperlipidemic patients not associated with any other systemic diseases and 26 age and sex matched healthy controls.Fasting lipid profile was done by enzymatic method using automated analyzer.Serum copper and protein thiols were measured spectrophotometrically.Results: Serum copper and protein-SH levels were significantly decreased in cases(P<0.01,P<0.01) compared to controls.Serum copper correlated positively with protein thiols(r=0.800,P<0.01) and negatively with LDL cholesterol(r=-0.351 P<0.05).Conclusion: Serum copper and protein thiols were decreased in hyperlipidemia and they correlated positively indicating protective role of copper in preventing homocysteinylation of protein and hence in preventing atherosclerosis.
Objective:To explore an optimal natural air-dry time of soil for the separation of soil actinomycetes.Methods:Number of bacteria,fungus and actinomycetes colonies separated from soil samples that were collected from Hainan and dried in air for 1,7,15,21,30 days were counted and compared.Results:Number of bacterial and fungal colonies separated from soil sample that were dried for 7 days was significant less,while the actinomycetes types were of great diversity.For soil sample that was dried for 21 days,the separation of actinomycetes was complete and was not affected by bacterial and fungal colonies basically.Conclusion:Seven or 21 days of air-dry is optimal for actinomycete separation from soil sample.
Objective: To observe the curative effect of double-plating through one approach in treatment of Schatzker Ⅴ and Ⅵ tibial plateau fracture. Methods: From March 2002 to July 2009, 32 cases of tibial plateau fracture were treated through one approach by double plates internal fixation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University. According to Schatzker classification, 19 cases were type Ⅴ, 13 cases were type Ⅵ. They were treated with open reduction and internal fixation and allograft implantation for defective fracture. Results: All got incision primary healing and were followed up for 10~24 months with an average of 19.4 months. The fractures were all healed at 3~8 months (with an average of 4.3±0.6), no complications such as nonunion, osteomyelitis, flap necrosis, collapse in articular surface and loss in alignment in all cases. Excellent and good rate of knee function was 84.4% according to Hohl standard. Conclusion: The double plating operation through one approach is an effective way of treating Schatzker Ⅴ and Ⅵ tibial plateau fractures, which not only provides reliable fragments stability, but also leaves space for the second operation.
Objective:To investigate the epidemiology of oral yeast colonization and drug resistance amongst clinical patients.Methods:Oral examination and microbial swabs were obtained from a total of 92 inpatients for yeast culture in order to reveal the prevalence of Candida pelliculosa colonization by isolation and cultivation of fungi,and to detect its susceptibility to fluconazol,amphotericin B,ketoconazole,fluorocytosine,itraconazole.Results:Candida pelliculosa colonization was found in 57.61%(53/92) of these patients,most of whom were suffering from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases followed by respiratory tract infection.The prevalence of Candida pelliculosa colonization was significant higher among those over 60 years old compared with their younger counterparts(P0.05).It was also revealed there were 28 Candida albicans,8 Candida tropicalis and 17 other Candida colonization,all the cultivated fungi were resistance to the 5 kinds of tested drugs,most obviously to ketoconazole.Conclusions:The prevalence of oral Candida carrier amongst the examined clinical patients is characterized by high isolation rate,high incidence among older patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases or respiratory tract infection,and the most prevalent pathogen was mainly Candida albicans.Besides,most of the isolated strains are resistant to conventional anti-fungal agents.
Objective:To investigate the allergen distribution in Haikou for a better allergic disease prevention and treatment.Methods:The inhalation allergens are dust mites,histamine,house dust mites,cockroach,dog hair /dog epithelium,cat hair /cat epithelium,mugwort pollen,corn pollen,Saccharomyces,Penicillium chrysogenum;food allergens are egg white,egg yolk,soy,beef,milk,scallops,octopus,crab,shrimp,peanut,apple,mango,banana etc.(23 all together).A small amount of the allergen solution(Wolwo Biotechnology Co.,Ltd.Shanghai)was pricked into flexor aspect of both forearms to induce allergic reactions,while normal saline and histamine dihydrochloride(10 g/L)were used for negative and positive control separately.Results:Out of the 98 participants,83(84.7%)were tested as positive.Main allergens for urticaria and eczema were beef in 48 cases(70.6%),sea crab in 37 cases(67.3%),shrimp in 57 cases(75.0%).Conclusions:Allergens responsible for allergic diseases in Haikou are mainly consisted of mites,dust mites,histamine,house dust mites,cockroach,sea crab,shrimp and beef.Avoid contacting with these allergens can prevent allergic diseases.
Objective: To elucidate the clinical value of using immunoglobulin to prevent pulmonary infection by monitor the T lymphocyte levels in patients after renal transplantation.Methods: A total of 30 cases with renal transplantation were selected from January 2007 to June 2009,the change of T lymphocyte subsets were measured after renal transplantation,according to the change,18 cases were divided into control group,others were into treatment group.The patients were given with immunoglobulin 0.2g·kg-1·d-1×3d in treatment group.The incidence of pulmonary infection,renal function and T lymphocyte subsets were observed.Results: T lymphocyte subsets were lower in treatment group than that of control group.The incidence of common pneumonia and severe pneumonia showed no significant difference between control group and treatment group(P0.05);T lymphocyte level was lower in treatment group(P0.05) before treatment than that of control group,and significantly increased in patients treated with immunoglobulin(P0.05).Conclusion: Treating with immunoglobulin according to T lymphocyte levels in early stage of post-renal transplantation patients can reduce lung infections and complications,recover immune function in time and improve survival rate.
Objective: To optimize the oil extraction technology of Fructus piperis by CO2-SFE with orthogonal tests.Methods: Parameters affected the CO2-SFE extraction yield such as pressure,temperature,time and the percentage of extraction yield of the oil were observed to evaluate the extraction technology.Results: The optimum CO2-SFE conditions for the oil extraction of Fructus piperis included extraction pressure,30 MPa,extraction temperature,55 ℃ and the extraction time,2 h.Conclusion: The above mentioned extraction technology and optimum conditions provided theory basis for oil extraction of Fructus piperis in large scale.
Objective:To explore the variation of serum placental growth factor(PLGF) and plasma adiponectin (APN) levels and the clinical significance of their combined detection in patients with acute myocardial infarction.Methods:The level of serum PLGF and plasma APN were assayed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 52 AMI cases and 70 healthy cases,while serum myoglobin and troponin T were detected by auto biochemical analyzer.Results:As compared with control group,there was no significant increase of serum PLGF levels within 6 h in AMI group ( P0.05),PLGF began to increase at 12 h (P 0.05),and there was significant increase at 24 h in AMI group as comparing with the level at 6h and the level in control group( P0.01).The level of APN was significantly decreased at 6 h and was obvious lower in the control group (P0.05),at 24 h,the decrease in AMI group was significant lower that of the 6 h and that of the control group(P0.01).Linear correlation analysis showed that the level of the PLGF had no correlation with Mb and APN(P0.05)but had a positive correlation with cTnT(r=0.67,P0.05).APN had a negative correlation with Mb(r=-0.73,P0.05).Conclusion:PLGF and APN were independent risk factor for AMI.Early combined monitoring of the PLGF and APN levels can help in evaluating the extent of myocardial necrosis and the prediction of dangerous terminal case occurrence.
Ectodermal dysplasia is a rare disease with involvement of teeth,skin and appendages. We report a 2 year old boy presenting with recurrent fever,scarce facial and scalp hair and absence of sweating. Skin and hair biopsies were suggestive of hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia.
The present investigation was carried out in exfoliated buccal cells and saliva collected from pre-operative brain tumour patients. The DNA damage in these cells was assessed by alkaline comet assay and micronucleus (MN) assay. Salivary flow rate, pH, osmolality, total antioxidant activity (AOA) and vitamin C levels were also assessed in unstimulated whole saliva of these patients. In the comet assay a significant increase in the tail length (P<0.02) was observed when control and malignant groups were compared. A significant (P<0.02) difference in tail length was also noted between benign and malignant groups. Non significant results were found when control and benign groups were compared. Further, a marked increase in % MN (P<0.002) was observed when control and benign groups were compared. A significant increase in % MN (P<0.029) was also observed in benign cases when compared to malignant tumours. No significance was obtained when % MN in control and malignant cases was compared. Moreover, salivary flow rate and pH was significantly decreased and osmolality was markedly increased in brain tumour patients. The AOA levels in saliva were markedly decreased in brain tumours and vitamin C levels exhibited no change when compared to controls. Thus, as noted above susceptibility to free radical induced DNA damage also exists in the exfoliated buccal cells conducive to the lowered salivary antioxidant status of brain tumour patients.
Objective:To explore the mechanism of anti-fibrosis function of Qigongkangxian formula.Methods:Forty male SD rats were randomly divided into control group(group N),cross-type group(group M),low and high dosage Qigongkangxian formula group(group HD,group HG).Except group N,the other 3 groups were made models of hepatic fibrosis by intraperitoneal injection of porcine serum,besides,group HD and HG were also treated with intragastric administration of 1 mL/200g and 2mL/200g weight,respectively.Four weeks later,spleen weight,spleen weight index and blood viscosity were evaluated and compared among these groups.Results:Comparing with group N,group M showed significant heavier spleen weight,higher spleen weight index and blood viscosity at high,medium and low shear(P0.05-0.01),while after treatment of drugs for invigorating blood circulation and eliminating blood stasis all indexed in group M decreased significantly.Changes after treatment were more significant in group HG comparing with group HD.Conclusions:Qigongkangxian formula can decrease blood viscosity,invigorate blood circulation,protect hepatic cells thus to improve hepatic fibrosis.
Objective: To investigate the diagnostic significance of female infertility related autoantibody detection.Methods: Chemiluminescent method was applied to detect levels of antisperm antibody(AsAb),endometrial antibody(EmAb),anticardiolipin antibody(ACA) in 149 cases of primary infertility,466 cases of secondary infertility,320 cases of habitual abortion and 45 cases of normal reproductive women.Results: The positive rate of AsAb,EmAb,and ACA was 26.17%,17.45%,and 12.75% in the primary infertility group,28.97%,20.17%,19.10% in the secondary infertility group,and 19.06%,9.06%,28.12% in the habitual abortion group,while in the normal control group,the positive rate of AsAb,ACA and EmAb were 2.22%,2.22% and 0.Postive rate of AsAb,ACA and EmAb of infertility group were all significant higher than that of the control(χ2=33.02,P0.05).Conclusion: The detection of serum autoantibodies associated with the female immune infertility is informative for diagnosis.
Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease of metabolic dysregulation. The current study was undertaken to understand the relationship between the fasting lipid profile and the paraoxonase 1 (PON1) activity in type 2 diabetic patients, with and without complications. Materials and methods: The study group consisted of a total of 155 subjects, which included non-diabetic healthy control subjects (n = 50) and diabetic patients with complications (group I, n = 66) and without complications (group II, n= 39). PON1 activity was measured in all the subjects, based on spectrophotometric methods and the fasting lipid profile and the fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels were determined by using a clinical chemistry analyzer, Hitachi 912. Results: FPG (p<0.001) and triacylglycerides (TAG) (p<0.001) were significantly increased and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) (p<0.001) and PON1 (p<0.001) were significantly decreased in group I patients as compared to the normal controls. In group II patients, FPG (p<0.001), TAG (p<0.001) and total cholesterol (TC) (p<0.05) were significantly increased and HDL-C (p<0.05) was significantly decreased as compared to the normal controls. By using Pearson's correlation, HDL-C was found to be positively correlated with PON1 in group I patients (r=0.317, p<0.01). Conclusion: Type 2 DM patients with complications have significantly decreased HDL-C levels and PON1 activity, possibly indicating their decreased biochemical roles in these patients.
We report here the results of a prospective analysis of the pattern of antibiotics use over a one month period (May 2009) at two teaching hospitals in Sanandaj, western part of Iran. Data on antibiotic usage were obtained from the pharmacy services. Data was coded, computed and analyzed using SPSS version 11.5.A total of 1336 and 556 patients from Beasat and Tohid hospital respectively received antibiotic. Male patients represented 758 (41.5%) and females 1080 (58.5%) of the total number of patients evaluated by physicians at the two hospitals during the one month period. Usage of antibiotics varied from hospital to hospital; Beasat hospital had the highest usage. The ward-wise distribution of antibiotic use showed that the prevalence of prescribing was highest in the post partum ward (66.58%). Similarly, among Tohid hospital wards, men surgical ward and women surgical ward prescribed antibiotics significantly more than all other wards. The route of administration of antibiotics was parentrally for 85.5% and 88.2% at Beasat anf Tohid hospitals respectively. The distribution of use of individual antibiotics showed that cepfzoline was the most frequently prescribed antibiotics used at both the hospitals. Delivery (childbirth) and pneumonia were the most frequent diagnosed pat tern for which an antibiotic was prescribed at Beasat and Tohid hospital respectively. In conclusion our study suggests that there is considerable scope for improving prescribing pattern among the practitioners and minimizing the use of antibiotics. The improvement would be facilitated by providing feedback, prescriber education and hospital formulary.
Objective: To explore the value of high frequency ultrasonography in the detection of early breast cancer for population who were recruited in the new-type rural cooperative public care programmer.Methods:Both palpation examination and high frequency ultrasonography were applied to examine women who were subjected to physical examinations.Results:A total of 220 women were diagnosed as breast nodules according to palpation examination with a diagnostic rate of 4.5%(220/1 521),while 648 were shown as space occupying lesions in the breast according to the high frequency ultrasonography,of which 5 were suspected to be cancer.The detective rate was 42.6%(648/1 521),significant higher than that of palpitation examination.Conclusion:High frequency ultrasonography is valuable for the early diagnosis of breast cancer in the regular physical check,and should be listed as a routine procedure in public screening of the normal population recruited in the new rural cooperative medical programmer for earlier diagnosis,and earlier treatment of breast cancer.
