Parenting assessments has limitations, such as the predominant adoption of the maternal perspective. The objective of this study was to adapt the Brazilian version of the Inventory of Father Involvement (IFI-BR-27) for use with fathers and mothers (with children aged 2 to 10 years), in addition to improving the assessment of the financial support dimension and to including the assessment of the openness to the world function. Following international guidelines, the following stages were carried out: adaptation and construction of items (with the participation of two researchers), evaluation by judges (with the participation of six experts) and pilot study (with the participation of nine fathers and mothers). The results indicated the suitability of the new version of the IFI-BR-27 (called, Inventory of Father and Mother Involvement) for assessing parental involvement, in a multidimensional, updated, and inclusive way (from maternal and paternal perspectives). Additional psychometric studies are needed to confirm the validity of the new instrument.
Human agency, understood as the capacity to act in pursuit of valued goals, depends on the interaction between psychological resources and structural opportunities. Based on the Capability Approach, this study analyses how psychological characteristics (perseverance, resilience, intelligence, and impulsivity) and objective capabilities (education and type of employment) influence income in contexts of high marginalisation. Using a structural equation model applied to data from 1,238 household heads, acceptable fit indices were obtained. The results indicate that psychological resources serve an adaptive function, but do not replace the fundamental role of structural opportunities. Furthermore, the model controlled for the direct effect of sex on income, revealing the persistence of a gender pay gap which reflects systemic gender inequalities. These findings underscore the need for public policies that expand structural opportunities and strengthen individual capacities in an integrated manner amongst vulnerable populations.
Symbolic racism encompasses prejudiced attitudes masked by seemingly benevolent rhetoric, traditionally studied in relation to Afro-descendant populations. This study adapted and validated the Symbolic Racism Scale (srs) within a Peruvian sample, focusing on historically marginalised Andean indigenous communities. A total of 342 individuals aged 18 to 84 years (M = 32.49, SD = 13.98) were selected through non-probabilistic sampling. The validation process included translation, cultural adaptation, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and internal consistency evaluation (ω = 0.88), demonstrating high reliability. Results revealed a bifactorial structure accounting for 59% of the accumulated variance, supporting the scale’s internal validity. Additionally, a significant correlation was found between the srs and Social Dominance Orientation (r = -0.58, p < 0.001), confirming its convergent validity. This study contributes t o the development of tools that enable a more precise approach to addressing racist attitudes in contexts outside the USA, focusing on reducing structural discrimination against indigenous communities
This study presents an exploratory integrative review with bibliometric and textual analysis of scientific production inWork and Organizational Psychology (WOP) in Ibero-America between 2000 and 2024 period. A total of 461 articles from Scopus and Web of Science were analyzed, identifying thematic, methodological, and geographic trends, as well as the most frequently used instruments. Findings reveal a shift from personality-centered approaches to topics such as wellbeing, mental health, resilience, and inclusive leadership. Quantitative studies predominated (70%), and an increasing trend of international collaboration was observed. The vosviewer analysis identified four major thematic clusters, reflecting alignment with global trends highlighted by SIOP. The study concludes that wop research in Ibero-America has addressed contemporary challenges, although some gaps persist in regional coverage and critical topics such as gender equity, artificial intelligence, and job quality.
This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Indonesian version of the Friendship Autonomy Support Questionnaire (FASQ) using the Rasch measurement model. A total of 695 adolescents aged 12–20 years participated in the study. The analyses were conducted through Principal Component Analysis of Residuals (PCAR) to assess unidimensionality, evaluations of item fit (infit and outfit), estimation of reliability and separation indices, examination of response category functioning, and detection of Differential Item Functioning (DIF) based on gender and age groups. The results showed that the Indonesian version of the FASQ met the unidimensionality assumption, with 51.2% of variance explained, demonstrated high item-level reliability (.98), and exhibited no significant demographic bias. The analysis also identified threshold disordering in the response categories and a measurement gap in the lower ability range, indicating the need for scale refinement and the development of additional items. These findings strengthen the construct validity of autonomy support within a collectivistic cultural context and provide practical recommendations for enhancing the instrument’s sensitivity in assessing autonomy support in Indonesian adolescents’ friendships.
This research sought to analyze the perception of social support in women with breast neoplasms, aged between 36 and 68 years in the context of a pandemic in Lima Metropolitana, through intentional sampling. A qualitative study with a reflexive thematic analysis design was conducted, involving sixteen semi-structured interviews. The results indicated that social support was perceived through professional support, moral support, primary support and affective support. In conclusion, it is important not only to provide support to patients through family and friends, but also to provide information, adequate communication, and follow-up as part of the professional support provided by healthcare personnel. This highlights the importance of how patients are treated, as it can affect the continuity of treatment and the attitude of family members, putting women’s health at risk.
Suicide poses a significant public health challenge, with concerning rates globally, including Chile, particularly among men and young adults. While multiple models explain suicidal behaviour, population-level research in Chile remains limited, emphasizing the need for predictive studies. The study aims to identify variables associated with suicidal ideation in the Chilean population aged 15 and above, including health variables, by using a multifactorial predictive model. A binomial logistic regression using National Health Survey data was performed. Results indicated that divorced and cohabiting individuals showed a higher risk of suicidal ideation. Higher education and lower BMI are protective factors against suicidal ideation, while poor health perception, stress perception, sleep issues, anxiety, and depression increase suicidal ideation risk. Retirement is a protective factor, with varying risk profiles across occupational categories. This model demonstrated moderate predictive capability (AUC = 0.73), validated through training and test sample split, but showed very low sensitivity (14%) and poor calibration, limiting its usefulness as a screening tool. Nevertheless, this research contributes to public health by identifying risk factors and developing early warning systems for suicide prevention.
This article presents the results obtained from a quantitative study with a cross-sectional-retrospective design, using the INHUMAPS scale, on a sample of 555 employees from various Colombian companies, based on inferential analyses that revealed associations between personal, organizational, and work variables and innovative human management practices. The results indicate that retention is the process most closely linked to innovative human resource management practices (D2 = 347.71; X2 (32) = 53.83; p = 0.00), given that it is the variable with the highest number of associations, mainly personal associations with level of education, organizational associations with the sector in which the companies are located, and work associations with the type of contract, conditions that generate motivation and satisfaction. The overall results indicate that work-related variables, such as type of contract, are an important condition for PIGH, as they appear repeatedly and significantly in connection with engagement, attraction, and development.
Tertiary students are known to be at a critical phase of life particularly due to the transitional period into adulthoodwith varying challenges, which makes them more susceptible towards mental health problems or reduced psychological well-being. Therefore, the primary aim of this systematic literature review is understanding the determinants of mental health symptoms and psychological well-being that may be beneficial in establishing targeted interventions and support programs. Four different search databases (i.e., Web of Science, SCOPUS, Eric, PubMed) were used to identify the relevant articles between 2013 to 2023. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, screening, and filtering, a total of 208 articles were retained for the final analysis using the PRISMA guidelines. The findings in this review concluded a multitude of individual, social, and environmental factors that influences university students’ mental health symptoms and psychological well-being.
Prosocial behavior has been related to a variety of positive indices of psychosocial functioning during childhood andadolescence. However, most studies focusing on concurrent associations and individual-level predictors. This studyexamined short-term changes in prosocial behavior, focus on helping, and the relation between the classroom socialenvironment and students’ prosocial development. The classroom environment was assessed from two perspectives: the classroom climate tradition and the peer-relations framework. We collected data from 1594 preadolescents in 9 schools in Bogotá, Colombia, four times across one school year. Using a Multilevel Latent Growth Curve model, we examined the association of the classroom-level social structure (i.e., cohesion and prosocial-related classroom norms) and the classroom climate (i.e., teacher’s equity, teacher’s support, indiscipline, competition, rules clarity, and participation) with students’ prosocial behavior over time. Results showed that prosocial behavior tended to increase over time and that only classroom cohesion predicted positive changes in children’s prosocial behavior. These results are discussed considering the pedagogical implications for educational practitioners.
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the direct and indirect predictive effects of metalinguistic skills (metatextual, morphological, and phonological awareness) for reading comprehension, adding intelligence to prediction models (verbal/numerical reasoning), school year and age. Method: Participants were 222 Brazilian students from public schools (Elementary School). The instruments were applied in person in pencil and paper format. Results: The results indicated that reading comprehension was predicted directly by the three metalinguistic skills and indirectly by the metatextual (mediated by verbal reasoning) and phonological (mediated by numerical reasoning) awareness. Findings also showed the direct predictive contribution of most metalinguistic skills and school year to only one of the reading comprehension measures (Cloze 1). Conclusions: Further studies are suggested to deepen the investigation of the predictive relationships existing between metalinguistic skills, reading comprehension, intelligence, and aspects inherent to formal instruction and maturation in basic education.
This systematic review examines the relationship between Internet Gaming Disorder (igd) and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury(nssi) in adolescents. Studies were selected based on criteria addressing igd and nssi in adolescents (age 9-18). Asystematic search was conducted across multiple databases (e.g., Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed) from September2023 to May 2024, including English and Spanish sources. The risk of bias was assessed using nhlbi’s quality tools forobservational and case-control studies. Five studies, involving 19 588 adolescents, were included. All studies were from East Asia. Findings indicate a positive association between igd and nssi, with gender differences: females had higher nssi prevalence, while males had greater igd frequency. Most studies were of fair or good quality. This review underscores the need for longitudinal studies and standardized assessments to better understand the igd-nssi relationship and guide future mental health interventions.
Background: This study investigates the relationships between perceived loneliness, life satisfaction, and suicide ideation (SI) in Ecuadorian medical and nursing students, aiming to identify cognitive predictors of si using structural equation modelling (SEM). Methods: A cross-sectional, quantitative, descriptive, correlational and explanatory study was conducted with 618 medical and nursing students from four universities in Tungurahua, Ecuador. Results: The results indicate that si is moderately and positively associated with perceived loneliness (r= .581; p < .001), and moderately and negatively associated with life satisfaction (r= -.408; p < .001). Additionally, perceived loneliness and life satisfaction are slightly and negatively related. sem analysis showed that perceived loneliness (R2= .252) is a stronger predictor of SI than life satisfaction (R2= .060), but their combined explanatory power is significant, accounting for 39.2% of the variance in SI. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of perceived loneliness and life satisfaction as cognitive predictors of si among university students.
The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) has been validated in heterosexual individuals using Classical Test Theory (CTT). The aim of the present study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the SWLS using Item Response Theory (IRT) to address gaps in the existing literature. The original structure comprising five items, as well as an abbreviated version with four items, were examined in a sample of 400 cisgender gay people from Lima, Peru. The results confirmed the unidimensionality of the scale in both versions, which demonstrated adequate psychometric properties with slight differences. Both versions can be used interchangeably without affecting the scale's structure. However, if the objective is to assess more accurately across a broader range of abilities, the 5-item version appears to be superior. Practical implications are discussed."
In the contemporary organizational environment, understanding and developing different types of capital —human, social, and psychological— is essential for maximizing employee performance and well-being. Psychological capital (PsyCap) is composed of measurable and developable positive qualities, as self-efficacy, hope, resilience, and optimism, which significantly impact employee motivation and performance. This study conducted a state-of-the-art review to evaluate the effectiveness of PsyCap interventions. It reviewed 64 articles from the Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science databases, resulting in a final sample of 16 articles after removing duplicates and ineligible articles. The results indicate that PsyCap interventions promote the development of these qualities, improving psychological well-being and employee performance. Successful implementation of these interventions requires a clear understanding of workers’ needs and strong support from organizational leadership.
This study aims to understand the social representations on the quality of life and the COVID-19 pandemic among Brazilian older gay men. The research has the participation of 21 Brazilian men, at an average age of 64 years old. Two instruments were used to the research: a sociodemographic questionnaire and a structured interview; those were analyzed through the software spss and iramuteq, respectively. A total of 4 classes of words were collected: Older Gay: Double Difficulty; COVID-19: Necessary Care; COVID-19: Implications of the Pandemic; Quality of Life: Definition and Reality in the Old Age. The SR showed a positive view and adhesion to the protective measures against COVID-19, and the impacts of the pandemic in the lives of the participants and their quality of life, concerning the measures of social distancing. The participants also demonstrated the perception that the old age becomes a more difficult phase among gay men. The group present a positive understanding of their own quality of life.
This study examined the relationship between the perception of the quality of the Parent-child Relationship and the acceptance of one's sexual identity and psychological well-being in young people with different sexual orientations. A quantitative study was conducted with a cross-sectional, multivariate, correlational design. The sample consisted of 246 young adults aged 18 to 25, self-identified as men or women, and with different sexual orientations. Descriptive, correlational, and linear regression analyses, including mediation analyses, were conducted. The results indicated that in all groups, the quality of the Parent-child Relationship was significantly and positively related to the acceptance of one's sexual identity and psychological well-being, but only in the groups with sexual orientations other than heterosexual was identity acceptance related to psychological well-being; in these groups, sexual identity acceptance acted as a mediator between the quality of the parental relationship and well-being. The results can be considered in formulating programs promoting health in young adults, in which sexuality factors are considered.
Social Network Addiction (SNA) in university students has aroused interest among researchers in the field to understand the possible association with individual differences. The objective of the investigation is to contribute to the knowledge about the relationship between Social Network Addiction, personality traits and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) in university students. A sample of 524 university students participated in this investigation. The instruments used were a Sociodemographic and Social Network Usage Questionnaire, the Social Network Addition Scale, the NEO Five Factor Inventory Personality Questionnaire (NEO FFI-20) and the Fear of Missing Out Scale. The main results indicated the existence of negative associations between SNA and the personality characteristics Conscientiousness and Extraversion and positive correlations with Neuroticism. Regression analyses suggested that SNA, Neuroticism, Agreeableness and Extraversion predicted FoMO. It was also verified the mediating role of FoMO in the association between personality and SNA. The practical implications of the research, limitations and suggestions for future studies are also discussed.
