Agribusiness cities are the main bonds of agricultural productive consumption in Mato Grosso, offering a diversified and specialized scale of goods and services such as machines, equipment, consultations, technical assistance, implements, and agricultural supplies. The predominant agents of that market are the biggest corporations making laboratories of their experiments in those centers and imposing technical and political prescriptions in those places. However, agribusiness cities are different. There are others related to the production of cattle farming and beans support and those, we can call, the complete agribusiness cities such as Sorriso, Nova Mutum, Lucas do Rio Verde, and Primavera do Leste because they attend to multiple productive chains. Considering this, the purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the functions of agribusiness cities of Mato Grosso, starting with the agricultural productive consumption. This investigation was carried out based on a revision of the notion of agribusiness cities, data from Relagao Anual de Informagoes Sociais (RAIS) (MTE, 2022), "Regioes de influencia das Cidades" (IBGE, 2020a; 2020b) publication, information gathered from the sites of dozens of companies and fieldwork.
This study explores elderly residents' perceptions of aging in two favelas (informal settlements) in Rio de Janeiro-Morro da Provid & ecirc;ncia, located in the central region, and Jacarezinho, in the city's North Zone-based on their memories and narratives. Using a qualitative approach, the research relied on observations, field diaries, and semi-structured interviews addressing life trajectories, aging, and their relationship with the favela. Participants were selected through non-probabilistic snowball sampling until data saturation was achieved. The interviewees' accounts reveal significant historical transformations in these areas and a deep affective and symbolic connection to the favela, highlighting the role of the elderly in preserving collective memory. Findings indicate that aging in these territories is shaped by distinct physical and social conditions, with accessibility and mobility emerging as critical factors for autonomy. Urban obstacles- such as steep staircases, uneven streets, narrow alleyways, and limited transportation- hinder mobility, restricting access to essential services and community participation. The study underscores the need for public policies that promote accessibility and inclusion, ensuring dignified and healthy aging for residents. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of recognizing favelas as spaces of memory, belonging, and resistance, where the elderly play a vital role in sustaining local history and community identity.
The present study aimed to map the susceptibility to flooding and inundation in the municipality of Juazeiro do Norte, southern Cear & aacute;, for the period from 2000 to 2021, as well as to investigate and spatialize the impacts resulting from extreme rainfall events reported in newspaper articles. The investigation of these impacts was carried out using data from the Integrated Disaster Information System (S2ID), municipal decrees, and analyses of news published in local, state, and regional newspapers and blogs. In addition, technical field visits were conducted to verify and collect georeferenced points for mapping purposes. To identify areas susceptible to inundation, the HAND hydrological model was applied as the physical and computational conceptual basis, enabling quantitative exploration of the topohydrology of Juazeiro do Norte's landscape. The results showed that the highest concentration of rainfall-related impacts occurred in the Lagoa Seca and S & atilde;o Jos & eacute; neighborhoods. The application of the HAND model generated a flood susceptibility map for the municipality, categorized into five susceptibility classes (very high, high, medium, low, and very low). It was observed that the neighborhoods classified as having high and very high susceptibility are mainly associated with the Salgadinho River floodplain, as well as the Timba & uacute;bas and Touro streams. The study on flood susceptibility in Juazeiro do Norte, Cear & aacute;, provides important insights for understanding and addressing the challenges related to this type of disaster in the region.
The study of the reDlationship among the intensity, duration, and frequency of rainfall in municipalities or watersheds is crucial for designing hydraulic structures to prevent flooding. This study aimed to determine Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) equations for rainfall stations in the lower course of the Rio Pardo basin, located in the central-west region of S & atilde;o Paulo state, using maximum daily rainfall data from annual series. Additionally, the spatial distribution of rainstorms estimated by these equations was analyzed. The data were fitted to the Gumbel probability distribution. Gumbel theoretical daily precipitations (TP) were disaggregated into shorter duration rains using duration relationships, and coefficients "a", "b", "c", and "d" were obtained by linearizing the equation through logarithmic functions. The resulting equations showed excellent fit quality relative to Gumbel TP, as indicated by evaluation parameters, all exceeding 0.99. For rainfall events of same duration and return period, rainfall stations "& Aacute;guas de Santa B & aacute;rbara", "Dom & eacute;lia", "Fazenda S & atilde;o Luiz", "Fazenda Palmeiras", and "Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo" exhibited higher intensity rains estimated by the IDF equations.
