The present study examines the specific characteristics of food influencers’ profiles on Instagram to identify the correlation between their educational background in Nutrition and the quality of the content they disseminate. For this purpose, a representative sample of 24 profiles was selected based on specific criteria. Using a mixed-methods approach that integrates quantitative (descriptive) and qualitative techniques (taxonomy-based), this work provides a broad and detailed perspective on the current dynamics of digital communication in food and Nutrition. Among the findings, it is noteworthy that only 4 % of the selected influencers have specialised university training in Nutrition. This raises concerns about the quality and credibility of the nutritional information provided through these channels. This article analyses the media framing strategies employed by Spanish-language Latin American news outlets in their coverage of the 2024 United States (US) presidential campaign. Drawing on a quantitative content analysis, 262 news articles from six countries —collected through the outlets’ official WhatsApp channels— were coded for the presence of strategic, thematic, and fear-related frames. Findings confirm the predominance of the strategic frame (97.7 %), the prevalence of the thematic frame (87 %), and the prominence of fear as a hybrid framing device (74.8 %), whose presence was significantly correlated with both strategic and thematic frames. While fear did not intensify during predefined key weeks, its temporal variation suggests more complex narrative modulation. Fear does not operate as an isolated category but rather as a cross-cutting emotional resource that amplifies other framing structures. This study provides empirical evidence of WhatsApp’s role as a curated channel for distributing editorial content and contributes to the broader debate on affective hybridization in electoral framing within closed digital environments.
Hate speech against groups with distinctive characteristics has intensified in the contemporary public sphere, driven by the logic of social media dissemination. In the United States, the Trump era has marked a turning point in the visibility and normalization of this rhetoric, with documented effects on the evolution of hate incidents and crimes. This article analyzes hate speech and its relationship to hate crimes during Donald Trump's second term, using as a case study the speech of Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on September 10, 2025. The work combines analysis of hate speech and populism with content analysis and the performativity of language through critical discourse analysis (CDA). With this framework, it examines how the political rhetoric of Donald Trump and his allies constructs the internal enemy and dehumanizes the other, amplifying their message on digital platforms such as X and generating climates of hostility that correlate temporally with spikes in hate crimes. The Kirk case allows us to trace the transition from discourse to violent action and discuss the ethical and democratic implications of the instrumentalization of hate in polarized contexts.
This study analyses President Donald Trump's second inaugural speech delivered on January 20, 2025, to unearth the latent and manifest rhetorical tropes that amplify his supremacist narratives and power rhetoric. Anchored in the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework, the researchers analysed how Trump's narrative and language in the speech construct, sustain, and legitimise power relations, supremacy, and hegemonic dominance. The data were extracted from the official transcript and video of the speech, and analysed using CDA's textual, discursive, and socio-political dimensions. Results reveal Trump's employment of Aristotelian logos, ethos, and pathos to evoke logic, credibility, and emotion, thereby reinforcing his supremacist, power-driven, populist, and nativist/nationalist persona. Messiah complex and solipsism, American nativism, Christian nationalism, power binarism, cultural exclusivism, and supremacist expansionism were the six thematic strands of supremacist narratives and power rhetoric identified in the speech. In a collective sense, these thematic strands embedded in Trump's speech position him as a divinely appointed restorer of America's greatness while maligning opponents and marginal groups/institutions. The study argues that Trump's non-conventional rhetoric consolidates his ideological support base, valorises conservatism against progressivism, and redefines conventional U.S. presidential speech through confrontation, radicalism, and diminished political correctness. Ultimately, the study highlights how discursive strategies employed in Trump's speech demonstrate the role of language and narrative as instruments of supremacy, dominance, power relations, and socio-political polarisation in contempodemocratic milieux/contexts.
