Based on the results of quantitative surveys conducted from 2021 to 2024, the dynamics of abundance and spatial distribution of the xerophilic species – the bug Dimorphopterus spinolae Signoret (1857) (Heteroptera, Lygaeidae) – were studied on a former fire site in the Usmansky Forest (Voronezh Region), formed after the 2010 fire. The formation of a stable population grouping of the species was established. Significant interannual fluctuations in abundance were revealed, with a peak in 2021 followed by a subsequent decline. During the period of maximum abundance, its average values ranged from 10.88 (in the Calamagrostis-Chenopodium association) to 17.88 (in the Festuca-Calamagrostis association) individuals per 100 sweeps with a standard net. In 2023, with the minimum abundance of the species in different plant associations, it decreased by 2.6–11 times. The main limiting factors for the abundance of D. spinolae were high temperature maxima and prolonged drought periods. These factors led to premature drying and hardening of the vegetative parts of the main food plant, Calamagrostis epigeios, which worsened its quality for feeding the nymphs and adults of the bug. The greatest decline in the abundance of D. spinolae was noted in the most xerophilic area occupied by the Festuca-Calamagrostis association (1.63 individuals per 100 sweeps). Under prolonged abiotic stress towards xerophily, more mesophytic conditions ensured better preservation of the food base and a more favorable microclimate, providing for the preservation of the local population grouping of the species. The obtained data indicate the naturalization of the typical meadow-steppe species, the bug D. spinolae, in the conditions of a forming xerophilic biotope in place of the fire site and reflect the general trend of xerophily in the post-fire ecosystem in the Eastern European forest-steppe zone.
The olive lace bug, Neoplerochila paliatseasi Duarte Rodrigues, 1982 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Tingidae), is recorded for the first time as an alien species in continental Europe from the district of Faro in southern Portugal. It was previously known from South Africa and Madeira Island (Portugal). The larva of this species is described for the first time. The species was found in large numbers on trees of Olea europaea Linnaeus, 1753 and observed to cause severe damage to the leaves. Phillyrea angustifolia Linnaeus, 1753 is recorded for the first time as a host plant of this species. A brief description of the distribution, bionomics and the damage caused by N. paliatseasi in Portugal are outlined.

The azalea lace bug Stephanitis ( Stephanitis ) pyrioides (Scott, 1874) (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Tingidae) originates from the East Palaearctic. In 2020, this alien species was recorded for the first time in the European part of Russia (Krasnodar Territory, Sochi), notably attacking Rhododendron × hybridum hort. It most likely arrived there with plants for planting from Italy. The main morphological characteristics of adults and larvae are described and illustrated. The morphological differences between S. pyrioides and closely related S. pyri (Fabricius, 1775) are highlighted in the key to distinguish these two species, bearing in mind that now both of them can be found in the south of the European part of Russia. Additionally, DNA barcoding data for S. pyrioides from Sochi were analysed against other related species of Stephanitis whose DNA barcodes are available in Barcode of Life Data Systems (BOLD) and GenBank: S. takeyai Drake et Maa, 1955, S. oberti (Kolenati, 1857), S. mendica Horváth, 1912, and S. chinensis Drake, 1948. The bionomics, distribution, damage and impact of S. pyrioides are outlined.
Three new species of the lace bug genus Physatocheila Fieber, 1844 (Heteroptera: Tingidae) from China (Sichuan and Yunnan provinces) are described: Ph. explanata sp. nov., Ph. angusta sp. nov., and Ph. potanini sp. nov. A new subspecies Ph. miyatakei latiuscula subsp. nov. is described from China (Sichuan Province) and the southern part of the Primorskiy Territory, the Far East of Russia. A key for the identification of Physatocheila species of the Russian fauna, including the new taxa, is presented. The distributions of all species are briefly summarised in the key. The species discussed herein are provided with original photographs.
The lace bug family Tingidae comprises more than 2600 described species in 318 genera that are classified into the subfamilies Tinginae (about 2500 species and 300 genera), Cantacaderinae, and Vianadinae. We provide data on karyotypes of 16 species belonging to 10 genera of the tribes Tingini and Acalyptaini (Tinginae) studied using conventional chromosome staining and FISH. The species of Tingini possess 2n = 12A + XY, whereas those of Acalyptaini have 2n = 12A + X(0). FISH for 18S rDNA revealed hybridization signals on one of the medium-sized bivalents in species of both tribes. FISH with a telomeric probe TTAGG produced no signals in any species. In addition, we provide a list of all data obtained to date on Tingidae karyotypes, which includes 60 species from 22 genera of Tinginae. The subfamily is highly conservative in relation to the number and size of autosomes, whereas it shows diversity in the number and chromosomal distribution of the rDNA arrays, which may be located either on a pair of autosomes (the predominant and supposedly ancestral pattern), on one or both sex chromosomes, or on an autosome pair and the X. The absence of the "insect" telomeric sequence TTAGG in all species implies that Tinginae have some other, yet unknown, telomere organization.
Invasive alien insects cause serious ecological and economical losses around the world. Here, we review the bionomics, modern ranges (and their dynamics), distribution pathways, monitoring, and control measures of 14 insect species known to be important invasive and emerging tree pests in forest and urban ecosystems of Russia: Leptoglossus occidentalis (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Coreidae), Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomidae), Corythucha arcuata (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Tingidae), Agrilus fleischeri, A. mali, A. planipennis, Lamprodila (Palmar) festiva (Coleoptera: Buprestidae), Ips amitinus, Polygraphus proximus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae), Cydalima perspectalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), Acrocercops brongniardella, Cameraria ohridella, Phyllonorycter issikii, and P. populifoliella (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae). We identified three major scenarios of tree pest invasions in the country and beyond: (1) a naturally conditioned range expansion, which results in the arrival of a pest to a new territory and its further naturalization in a recipient region; (2) a human-mediated, long-distance transfer of a pest to a new territory and its further naturalization; and (3) a widening of the pest’s trophic niche and shift to new host plant(s) (commonly human-introduced) within the native pest’s range frequently followed by invasion to new regions.

The results of observations of the mass accumulation of adults of the harmful invasive oak lace bug, Corythucha arcuata (Say, 1832) in 2018 and 2021 at the highest point of the Ai-Petri plateau (Crimea; 1234 m a.s.l.) are presented. The approximate number of aggregations of this species reached several thousand specimens, the density of groups reached 50 specimens/dm of ropeway structures. There are no food plants of this invader on the plateau. It is most likely that adults of C. arcuata are brought to the plateau by vertical air currents from the areas located below, where the pest successfully reproduces and develops. The Ai-Petri Plateau is a reserve of the adult pest, which provides its expansion to other territories of the southern Crimea by air currents. Chemical control of the C. arcuata population at the apex of Mount Ai-Petri is recommended.

Parasinalda sukachevae sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Tingidae: Tinginae: Phatnomini) is described based on one specimen from Eocene amber of the Rovno region (Ukraine). Similarities and differences to closely related species Parasinalda baltica (Drake, 1950), P. froeschneri (Golub Popov, 1998), and P. groehni Heiss Golub, 2013 are discussed, and a key to the four known species of the genus is provided.

Twelve species are recorded for the first time from the Altai Republic, Russia, based on the materials collected by authors in the vicinity of the northern part of Lake Teletskoye in the southern taiga of Western Siberia. Nabis (Dolichonabis) americolimbatus (Carayon, 1961) is recorded for the first time for the Western Siberia. Seven species, Pachycoleus pusillimus (J. Sahlberg, 1870) (and family Dipsocoridae Dohrn, 1859), Saldula orthochila (Fieber, 1859), Xylocoris cursitans (Fallén, 1807), Acalypta carinata (Panzer, 1806), Empicoris vagabundus (Linnaeus, 1758), Drymus brunneus (R.F. Sahlberg, 1848), Scolopostethus thomsoni Reuter, 1875 are recorded for the first time from the Russian Altai. Four species are recorded for the first time from the Altai Republic – Phytocoris longipennis Flor, 1861, Nysius helveticus (Herrich-Shaeffer, 1850), Kleidocerys resedae resedae (Panzer, 1797), Cymus glandicolor Hahn, 1832. For each species the general distribution, the detailed distribution in the adjacent territories of Siberia, and the data on the biotopic confinement are provided. In addition, the data on the abundance and ecology of some other rare species are provided.
The paper presents an improved key to the co-occurring species of Polymerus Hahn, 1831 (Heteroptera, Miridae) based on morphological characters and our new data on the differences between the COI gene DNA sequences of these species. These characters, together with the data stored in the NCBI GenBank, provide the means for accurate and rapid identification of adults and nymphs of Polymerus unciniger Gapon, 2014, P. unifasciatus (Fabricius, 1794), P. cognatus (Fieber, 1858), P. vulneratus (Panzer, 1806), and P. brevicornis (Reuter, 1879). The subgenera Poeciloscytus Fieber, 1858 and Pachycentrum Gapon, 2014 differ considerably in morphological and molecular genetic characteristics. A PCR-RFLP method has been developed for rapid identification of the pest species P. vulneratus. The morphological characters of P. unifasciatus and the COI gene sequences of the forms earlier registered in GenBank as P. unifasciatus and P. microphthalmus (Wagner, 1951) reveal high intrapopulation variability. Polymerus microphthalmus may be a submacropterous form of P. unifasciatus with shortened hemelytra and smaller eyes, while the macropterous form of the latter species is characterized by larger eyes.
Four species are presently assigned to the fossil Tingidae genus Paleocader Froeschner, 1996: P. avitus (Drake, 1950), P. strictus Golub & Popov, 1998, P. serafini Heiss, 2008 and P. gusenleitnerorum Heiss, 2013, all described from the Eocene Baltic amber. The new species P. balticus sp. nov. and P. pulchellus sp. nov. originate as well from Baltic amber, and P. rovnensis sp. nov. from Ukrainian amber deposits, both of Eocene age. A key to all seven species of Paleocader is presented.
Mid-Cretaceous amber has yielded to date twelve species assigned to six genera of the plant bug family Tingidae Laporte, 1832: Burmacader Heiss & Guilbert (2 sp.); Cucullitingis Du & Yao (1 sp.); Paraphatnomacader Guilbert & Heiss (1 sp.); Spinitingis Heiss & Guilbert (1 sp.); Tingiometra Heiss, Golub & Popov (4 sp.); Tingiphatnoma Guilbert & Heiss (2 sp.) (Du & Yao, 2018; Golub & Heiss, 2020; Guilbert & Heiss, 2018; Heiss, Golub & Popov, 2015; Heiss & Guilbert, 2013, 2018, 2019; Maksoud, Azar & Huang, 2019; Ross, 2019). A new genus and species Microtingis leptosoma gen. et sp. nov. is described and illustrated below.
